Chapter Text
In a surprising turn of events, Dennis found Trinity already awake when he got up to eat a quick breakfast. His roommate, still clad in pajama shorts, was staring at the space in the living room, deep in thought with her hands on her hips.
“Isn't it your day off?” Dennis asked in lieu of greeting. He padded barefoot into the open kitchen. There were already sliced avocados on the countertop, courtesy of one Trinity Santos. All Dennis had to do was toast some bread.
Trinity shrugged nonchalantly, as if it was not a big deal. “Body clock, Huck. I can get more stuff done today anyway.”
She took the other piece of bread Dennis had toasted, mashed some avocado, then spread it evenly. Dennis hummed as he mimicked her actions.
However, with her words, he made an association. He had noticed a couple of taped boxes sitting against the wall earlier. Dennis merely assumed that Trinity was finally tackling their mess of a storage closet— something Dennis never dared to touch nor clean. “Does it have to do with the boxes out in the hallway?”
“Yep.” Trinity did not elaborate further, opting to munch on her breakfast instead. Her gaze returned to the living room space, turning pensive once more. Dennis dusted off the crumbs from his top before slipping on his scrubs for the day in his bedroom.
As he left the room, he paused, seeing Trinity in the middle of transferring the boxes to the living room. Being a good roommate, he offered: “I can help you with that tonight, you know?”
He eyed the numerous boxes, curious about what was inside too.
“Pfft.” She waved him off dismissively. “I got this. It'll be therapeutic.”
He lingered a bit as Trinity sat on the floor to tackle a large box with a pair of scissors, cutting the tape on the box's flaps.
She paused again.
“Don't you have somewhere else to be?”
“Oh,” Dennis looked at his watch, his heart skipping a beat in panic and realization. He grimaced at the time. Even if he left now, the commute would still make him late. “Yeah, I’ll go.”
