Summary
In the service of the goddess Hecate, a device was created that revealed a person's hidden desires. However, within this device, the individual was also required to confront that desire; moreover, everything transpiring within the person's mind was projected into reality in the form of a rectangular frame. The first to test this device were the Olympian gods. Athena went first: her secret desire was for a child—something she could not conceive, as she was a virgin goddess. She successfully resisted her desire and emerged from the illusion. Next was Hera; her secret desire was to leave Zeus. She, too, successfully resisted it. And so, the goddesses successfully withstood their desires, until finally, the turn of the male gods arrived...
Imagine the astonishment of the goddesses—and of Poseidon himself (with the possible exception of Aphrodite, whose own secret desire was simply to see men fighting for her hand)—when it was revealed that every single secret desire harbored by the male gods centered entirely upon the Lord of the Seas...
