"I can't believe you had a crush on us," Ezekiel said.
Jake clenched his jaw and glared at him. The other man was really trying to get on his nerves that night it seemed. Not that it was really at all out of character for him.
"You were the one who admitted to having feelings first," Cassandra pointed out.
She was pointing at him with her spoon, having just taken a bite of her ice cream. It was silly but also fit with the way that Ezekiel was acting.
"I was under the effects of an artifact!" Ezekiel defended himself.
"But you were still the one who admitted to having a crush first," Jake added to the teasing.
It was better than being angry and mean about it. Which Ezekiel didn't deserve for the mild teasing, and it would only end up making Jake feel worse in the long run. Plus the look of annoyance that Ezekiel had on his face was pretty darn cute. As was the mischievous smile
"Magic artifact," Ezekiel repeated, emphasizing both words.
"Not sure that really outweighs the fact you made the first admission in this context," Jake said.
"Especially when all of us were having crushes on each other at that point," Cassandra added.
"You two are insufferable," Ezekiel said, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes.
"That makes three of us then," Jake replied, smirking. "Considering you are the most insufferable of all of us.
That comment was Ezekiel's last straw for the play argument and he jumped out of his chair and threw himself at Jake. Before he landed, Jake saw Cassandra leaning back to protect her ice cream while the beginning of laughter filled her expression.
Then Ezekiel was all he could pay attention to. It wasn't a real attack, just play really, and they both knew it. But it was a fun tussle. By the time it was over in less than a minute all three of them were laughing. Jake ended up sprawled on the couch with Ezekiel half on top of him.
"You two are such children sometimes," Cassandra said through her laughter.
"And you are just as bad as the two of us," Ezekiel said.
"It's why we work together so well," Jake said.
She laughed again and set her bowl down on the table next to her. Then came and joined them on the couch, smiling.
