Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

The classroom was bustling with noises – irrelevant conversations overlapping, bags rustling, feet shuffling, someone in the corner of the room laughed too loud, all the same things Sae had gotten accustomed to. He was with a few boys at the last benches, he couldn’t really be bothered listening to their shit talk about the girls in their class,

“No, no, no, no way, she totally has a boyfriend, give it up, man!” One of the boys, fiddling with a pen in his hand whispered..

“Your ass is just mad that she rejected you, she’ll totally be into guys like me.” Another guy said leaning in his chair so far back that a single external force could send the him crashing down and splitting his head open.

“You mean guys with a tiny that?” Another guy from the group remarked, a smug smile on his face.
The group exploded with laughter, demonic cackles and wheezing filled their space. Once the group settled down, another boy turned his head to Sae.

“Hey Itoshi! What girl do you think is pretty cute from our class?”

Itoshi Sae – the prodigy of the school, who was busy in his own quiet space, writing in his notebook, turned his head slowly towards the anticipating group and said cooly,

“I’m not interested in girls.”

The group let out disappointed groans although they knew Sae wasn’t the type to engage in this kind of talks, they were expecting at least a vague answer relevant to the topic.

“Oh come on! You would at least have a type, right?” One of the guys groaned, slinging his hand over Sae’s shoulder.

Sae narrowed his eyes at the guy, already disgusted from the gesture,
“You idiots only talk about girls all day, I’m not interested in that.”

Sae initially couldn’t bother answering them but if he just let them pester him, then he wouldn’t be able to get his work done before he gets home.

“Well then, let’s just make it quick and simple for our school prodigy shall we?”

The individual’s voice caught the attention of the group as he walked over to them, each step menacing slow, each stride carefully crafted like a predator silently stalking its prey. The group watched silently and Sae could only narrow his eyes, keeping his composure and rationality – his shield – in its position, ready for any blow this man could throw at him.

Because this man is dangerous and if he meddles in a business that isn’t his, then things don’t end well. But Sae wouldn’t back down, he won’t.

“Nobody asked you to come here, Lorenzo.” Sae was firm, his detached expression at this point was perfectly plastered on his face.

“Don’t worry Sae, I won’t bite. I promise” Lorenzo slid down on a chair right opposite to the prodigy, his hand cupped his head as he leaned over the table towards Sae who only raised an eyebrow.

“Ahh Lorenzo! You’re here to convince Sae to spill out his crush, aren’t you?”
One of the boys said, trying to break the awkward tension that was tightening around their necks.

Lorenzo didn’t bother even answering the guy or even looking at him, the others don’t matter to him. Nobody of worth mattered to him, but Sae – he was someone of immeasurable value, someone worth more than everyone in this school and messing with him, ruining him until he couldn’t take no more was enticing more than anything in this damned world.

“A hint would be a delight, Sae.. don’t keep your friend waiting~”

Lorenzo spoke alluringly, trying to squeeze through that thick shield of the prodigy’s. His voice laced with velvet. He instantly caught that look of disgust crossing Sae’s face – the way his lips curled slightly in distaste, his nose wrinkled in revulsion and how his eyes narrowed at him. It was a sight to behold!

“Leave.” The prodigy warned and Lorenzo could only smirk at that word.

“If only you’ll answer my questions.”

Lorenzo declared unbothered, immediate. He knew Sae would take this proposal even though the prodigy knows that he would be playing right into Lorenzo’s hands, he would take it.

“Get it over with then.” Sae crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair.

Jackpot.

Lorenzo smiled, leaning in closer, his arm draped over the desk that was the only thing pressed between them.

“I’m kinda curious too, you know? Who is the lucky girl?”

Lorenzo shrugged his shoulders, playing it cool. Now that the group did reach that topic, might as well get on with it to ruin Sae.

“I thought you would do better than that.” Sae remarked.

“Oh come, it’s not that childish” Lorenzo laughed, leaning back.

The prodigy sighed, watching the man, calculating, composed as ever.

“A hint would be very nice though. Come on Sae, just.. describe their appearance, what they look like or their personality, anything would do good!”
Lorenzo moved his hands in the air animatedly, childishly explaining while the group watched their conversation.

The prodigy didn’t speak, only watched him as he let the silence grow by each passing second, letting time stretch longer, letting him wait deliberately, letting the anticipation climb higher,

Might as well get him closer to me. He thought to himself but he knew it would cost a lot..

Sae got up from his chair, the legs scraping the ground a little, the group and Lorenzo watched him, then slowly, he spoke with quiet control,

“They have blue eyes.”

The group was silent, processing the information, Lorenzo’s eyes widened – this was not calculated, this wasn’t planned, he didn’t expect this, Sae wasn’t the type to just say something like that, he wasn’t supposed to say that, not from the numerous answers he had mentally prepared for and Sae – could only stare back at the stunned man, satisfied that he caught him off-guard.

Then Sae left, footsteps clicking towards the classroom door, never looking back.

Knowing this filthy school was filled with gossiping irrelevant nobodies, news would spread like wildfire and specially it would reach him.
