Work Text:

Youngjae was awoken early in the morning, he wasn’t sure how early but he could still hear the birds waking up. Someone, Jihoon, was whisper yelling his name close to his face, pulling him from the most pleasant dream.

“Youngjae,” another whisper yell. By now he was used to Jihoon's energy; they had been dating for years, too many to count, but he was really enjoying the dream. He groaned and pulled the blankets back over his head.

“Whatever it is, it can wait,” he replied before turning his body to get comfy again. “Youngjae,” that irritating grating sound echoes inside his ears again. He doesn’t actually think Jihoon is annoying but he’s teetering on the edge.

“Go away Jihoon,” feigning a stern voice but he could never actually be mad at his adorable boyfriend. Well not currently but he’s heading there this morning.

“Youngjae you need to wake up,” was all the warning Youngjae got before the blanket was ripped from him, like a child with a lollipop. Cold air swept over his body starting with his face causing his eyes to shoot open. He squinted towards the alarm clock on the bedside table and read the time.

Jihoon was leaning over him with the embodiment of sunshine in his smile and for a second Youngjae couldn’t be mad he looked too precious, but then he remembered it’s SIX AM.

“Good morning sleepyhead,” Jihoon said brightly, acting like this was a time that was considered sleeping in. Youngjae stared at him and if looks could kill, he wouldn’t be dead but severely hurt by his gaze.

He slowly moves to a sitting position, knowing there’s no chance of another wink of sleep. His hair was hanging over his eyes tousled from the deep sleep he was previously in. “It's six in the morning jihoon-ah,” Jihoon rolled his eyes as if he was genuinely insulted by the very true statement.

“It’s still morning,” the same shit eating grin still on his face, clearly he’s excited about something or as Youngjae thinks out loud, “You’re a menace.” Jihoon flopped onto the bed on his stomach to be beside him, Youngjae took this as his chance to snatch the sheets back and try to go back to sleep.

Jihoon caught onto his plan and grabbed the blanket straight back and threw it to the floor. “you’re not going back to sleep hyung.”

“Yes I am, it's too early,” he rolled his eyes at his puppy like boyfriend before settling for no covers even if it was cold. Jihoon poked his cheek repeatedly to get his attention again while speaking.

“You promised hyung,” Youngjae could hear the pout in his voice without having to open his eyes to check. He sighed loudly not out of annoyance but realising he really wasn’t going back to sleep.

“I promised a lot of things, like when I promised to go to work but stayed in bed.” Jihoon glossed over the fact he didn’t know about this episode since it was from before they had moved in together.

“You promised to wake up early with me today though,” he ignored the fact he just said he breaks his promises easily.

“I was lying, I just wanted you to let me sleep.” Jihoon covered his chest like he had just been shot at point blank range.

“You can’t lie to your boyfriend, it's against the boyfriend law.” Youngjae opens his eyes at this to give him a ‘are you serious?’ look before seeing his deadpanned face as if what he said held any accountability.

“I absolutely can if it means I get to sleep.” That was Jihoon's last straw before grabbing his boyfriend’s shoulders and shaking him violently so he will keep his promise.

“Get up Youngjae,” Youngjae has never cared when jihoon is sometimes informal with him. They've been together for far too long and they weren’t that far apart in age; he only pulled the age card when it suited him. He let himself be thrown around by jihoons strength, still slipping into sleep even with the violent thrashing his body was doing.

“If you don’t get up, Choi Youngjae,” Jihoon hesitated for a moment before continuing. “I’ll break up with you.” Youngjae cracked open an eye to see how serious jihoon was but could see that just saying they’ll break up had made him slightly upset.

“You wouldn’t,” Youngjae is sure he’s joking. I mean they can’t break up over him not waking up. Right?

“Try me,” his voice wavered slightly but his eyes were serious. Youngjae pondered for a moment before slowly sitting back up and rubbing his eyes to adjust to his surroundings. He placed a quick kiss on Jihoon's cheek before speaking again.

“That was not cool Han Jihoon.”

“Cry about it.” Youngjae was slightly taken aback by Jihoon’s attitude, once he glanced towards the clock and saw it was 6:45am he understood this whole ordeal took 45 minutes. It was time to give in.

Jihoon's smile started looking more like the Cheshire cat once his sleepy, cute boyfriend started brushing his hair strands down to actually keep his promise.

“You’re impossible Jihoon-ah,” Youngjae stated with a slight smirk on his face.

“You love me though,” Jihoon phrased it more like a question even though he knew his boyfriend loved him more than dancing to random girl group dances whenever the songs played in a cafe. Youngjae pulled his face into a genuine smile while responding.

“Unfortunately,” Jihoon smiled widely before grabbing his arm and dragging him off the bed. Youngjae almost fell on his face which earned Jihoon a stern look which he just shrugged off.

“Why did I have to wake up so early? Where are we going?” Youngjae asked, realising he didn't even know what he had up his sleeve.

“Outside,” Youngjae waited a moment, waited for anything else to come out of his mouth but when there was nothing he halted his movements.

“Outside? Why?”

“It's early that's why,” Youngjae looked at his beautiful but questionable boyfriend with a look of disbelief. He was still standing waiting for a proper answer from Jihoon. When it never came Jihoon started tugging him harder towards the front door, not answering his questions just wanting him to see what he wanted him to wake up early for.

As they got outside the frosty air was hitting Youngjae hard, he mentally cursed Jihoon for not letting him put on a coat first but at least he let him put on his shoes. The street was quiet surprisingly but everyone had probably already left for work. Youngjae blinked a few times, sleep still preparing to take over.

“So what are we doing here Jihoon-ah?” Youngjae sighed softly, seeing his breath in the air. He hoped whatever this was, was worth it. Jihoon started gesturing towards the sky, it had hues of pink and orange as the sun was rising over the horizon. The sky was clear, not a cloud in sight. Youngjae had wondered if he woke up earlier would he have been able to see the sky change from dark with stars to this beautiful scene before him.

“Oh,” was all that Youngjae could get out before resting his head on Jihoon’s shoulder, the sleep still threatening to take over.

“When I woke up yesterday I thought it looked really pretty like you so I wanted to show you how I see you becau-” Youngjae cut off his rambling boyfriend by placing a chaste kiss to his cheek before sliding his hand into Jihoon’s to gather some warmth. Jihoon’s face turned a light shade of red at the sudden affection.

Jihoon cleared his throat gently before speaking again, “Do you like it?” Hesitation clearly evident in his voice.

“I love it Jihoon-ah, thank you,” Youngjae's tone was genuine before adding, "Don't wake me up at six am again unless you want me to break up with you.”

“You would never, you love me far too much,” Jihoon replied smugly.

“You’re still impossible,” Youngjae joked.

“But you still stay with me despite that and I'm so thankful you're still here,” Jihoon said with a contented smile. This is exactly where he wanted to be, he wanted to stay by Youngjae's side forever. If he could tell his younger self something it would be that he's truly happy in the future with the person he deems his soulmate and every ounce of hardship will be worth it to meet the love of his life.

“And I never intend to leave,” Youngjae mirrored his boyfriend's smile, he could never imagine a life without Jihoon. They never knew each other as kids but it felt like he had known him his whole life. It was his missing puzzle piece that he needed. The two always worked in perfect harmony and without each other their lives would be discordant. At least they have each other was the only thought that crossed their minds as they watched the sun rise to the sky and no longer changing the colour of the normally blue sky.

“I love you Jihoon-ah.”

“Me too Youngjae, I love you so much.”
