   Summary

   Mark’s existence had always seemed to him a poorly finished draft, a succession of disguised errors. When Sebastian appears, like a vast and undeserved kindness, he becomes, by degrees, the most painful way for Mark to confront himself and everything he lacked.

   In the presence of such solar affection, Mark realizes that perhaps love is the leaden weight destined to drag him to the bottom and, at last, force him to open his eyes.
