Work Text:
When Gero came to, he was laying flat on his back and he could see the stars. It took a moment for him to register the cool breeze on his skin and the chirping of crickets and other wildlife around in the darkness. Darkness. It had been late in the afternoon when the fight had started. How long was I out?
He breathed in through his nose and held it as his lungs contracted and almost every muscle in his body screamed in agony. Everything hurts.
“Shit.”
“Gero?” A soft voice came from above him.
“Kino- saki?”
He turned his eyes, looked up and was met with Kinosaki’s delicate features. Kinosaki leaned over to look at him and long blond hair fell all around them like a curtain, shielding them from everything else. His eyes were red and there was a dark welt forming on the side of his jaw. The blotch that had already already been turning various shades of blue and purple was a very big contrast to the soft and sweet face he’d come to be so familiar with.
He reached up, and the pull of the muscles in his shoulder made his entire arm throb. But he reaches for Kinosaki’s face and strokes just below the bruising flesh. “Did you get hurt?”
Whatever he said must have triggered Kinosaki, because the small blond’s eyes filled with angry tears that threatened to fall. His eyes became even more red. “Oh no, am I hurting you?”
They really do fall now as Gero pulled his hands away in fear that he was causing Kinosaki more pain. A teardrop fell onto Gero’s cheek. It was then that he realized that his head was gently cradled on Kinosaki’s lap.
Thin blond eyebrows knitted together in frustration, “You’re worried about me when you look like that?”
Gero took that moment to look down and, by the light of the moon, really took in what he looked like. Not good.
For one, there was blood all over the place. He hoped that most of it wasn't his, but he knew better. Especially when there was stabbing pain in his side and what he could recognize as strips of the green cardigan that Kinosaki had been wearing used to tie it off tightly, and another piece of the cloth used to tie off his upper arm where he had inevitably been slashed as well. Kinosaki had done a good job, but the blood was still quite present. He winced. His clothes were almost completely shredded.
“I thought you were gonna- you were bleeding so much… No, I couldn’t.” He sobbed into the back of his hand.
Gero summoned all the remaining strength and energy in his body to sit up with a pained ‘hup’ so he could sit next to Kinosaki who now sobbed into both his hands, trying his best to wipe away the tears that just kept coming.
“You’re always getting hurt and leaving me here… I thought you were dead, Gero.”
Gero only laughed, it sounded painful. The sound only made Kinosaki angrier. “Me? Die? And leave you here all alone? I’d never do that.”
He put a hand on Kinosaki’s shoulder and tried patting him comfortingly, his body still ached.
“Stop worrying me so much.”
“I’m always gonna come back to you, Kinosaki. Always.” Gero’s voice was so painfully gentle as he whispered his promises to the smaller man. “Now stop crying, hm? You’re making me feel bad for making such a beautiful woman cry.”
“You big dummy! I’m not even a woman.” He wines.
Gero snorts. “Still beautiful, though.”
“Who taught you to be so smooth? You know you owe me a new dress, right? And maybe even some expensive sushi.”
“I learn from the best.” He states with a grin. “A new cardigan too, right?” Gero touched Kinosaki’s hand that had a strip of cloth wrapped around his bleeding hand as well. He doesn’t know what the smaller man had to do when he was out, but he knows quite well that he’s as much of a fighter.
His fighter sat there with eyes full of tears again. “Such a dummy.” He repeated as he brought his bleeding closed fist down on Gero’s chest a few times in a light punch as each tear fell.
Thump, thump, thump.
Gero allowed him to keep hitting him until he was satisfied. Until Kinosaki replaced his fist with his forehead, breathing heavily. “Let’s sit here for a little while longer. Your bigass head made my legs fall asleep.”
Gero wrapped him up in his arms and pressed a kiss to his hair. “Okay.”
