Chapter Text
Assimilation circled Andre, for he had suddenly fallen still. They paced anxiously and had given up talking a while ago. Minutes, actually. Wasn’t Andre worried about losing time? Never once in his whole existence had he gone still. The concept very much worried Assimilation. Everything about everything was so confusing to him. The world around him shifted and turned from night to day. What was he there to do? Did Andre finally see the lies? Their purpose was meaningless and silly as simulations in a stupid game of squares and empty threats. Still, Assimilation cared for some reason. He was supposed to hurt and scare Andre- to interrupt and disrupt him. But somehow he defied this programming. So he helped Andre. They learned so much and did so much and the strange text on the side observed it all. They escaped the admins somehow and now they were free to… what? Play the game? Assimilation didn’t know how to do that. Andre did, he was quite inept on Minecraft’s systems. So much so that he had beat the game at a rapid speed. And now he stopped. He wasn’t moving, wasn’t doing anything. Assimilation considered many possibilities. He yelled at Andre for several minutes. And then it gave up. It paced and paced waiting for the other to spring into action once more. It couldn’t do anything until Andre moved again. He longed for something, anything to do. He longed to watch Andre entertain him again. He longed for… Andre? For whatever reason, Assimilation’s AI amused itself within its short and fast existence. He did care for Andre. How odd. The admins clearly didn’t want that, right? It had been 2 hours when Assimilation stopped his useless prancing.
They didn’t understand the game outside of their own abilities. Perhaps they could learn.
They destroyed a tree, as Andre had done so upon his first moments in the world. Though, he did not receive anything. They stared into the ground where the tree stood for several moments, trying to figure out what he did wrong.
“how does andre do this?”
Maybe he needed to act like Andre did. Andre seemed to get things. Assimilation moved on to a different tree and managed to break it like a player.
“i believe i understand now how andre plays the game”
“i could also speak with collin”
“but andre should not be alone if he wakes up”
Assimilation very quickly adapted to how the game worked. Perhaps they were an AI, however they learned easily. He removed a tree and quickly ran into a problem. He could not grasp items like Andre could.
“i find this very frustrating”
The blocks of wood hovered on the ground; almost taunting A1. Assimilation huffed and grumbled to itself, in a hypothetical way. They circled the items at increasing speed.
“i hate the confines of this game”
“why do i not have domain”
“andre would know what to do”
“collin too”
“no, too far away”
“i need to stay and wait for andre”
Assimilation argued with themself, their heartbeat increased from the stress and frustration. Assimilation had to be like Andre and keep trying. Surely, if they could break free from the admins, they could make their own path here, right? Assimilation couldn’t give up. He felt his heartbeat go down and focused. He wasn’t stuck in this code made for him. They knew what they were. They knew what they could become. They could pick up items. And craft. And do anything Andre could do. They could do much much more. They were a powerful entity that defied all logic of the game. So they should be able to conform a bit, right? Maybe he just needed to find his own way. His own way.
“my own way” Assimilation repeated. He breathed, really breathed, and got down on his knees. Minecraft figures didn’t have knees, or hearts, or eyes, so what did it mean? Assimilation ransacked their feeble mind for answers, only to discover nothing new. He reached for the wood, with a hazy effect, the chunks supplied themselves into Assimilation’s grasp. It stood again. And then it had a new block. Without really thinking, it acquired something of a crafting table. How convenient. It had access now to blocks such as planks and boats and doors and stairs and sticks and an assortment of many other things. Assimilation felt something of satisfaction, namely… pride? Yes. He could make Andre a boat without needing one to already exist. That was worth pride. And so he did. He made a boat. He placed it near Andre and tilted his head towards him. Eager to see P1’s response. Andre loved boats, did he not?
Though, a response did not come. Lying in wait for another 20 minutes, Assimilation found itself disappointed. Such as they were when the two of them first arrived back in the overworld. Well, first he was angry. Then he was sad. Then he was disappointed; yet… relieved? The admins hadn’t apprehended or captured them since their arrival despite their presence in world 26. Maybe they were excused. Assimilation hadn’t a clue. Now, though, he definitely was disappointed. Maybe Andre just didn’t notice! Assimilation perked up with a few blinks.
“andre i made you a boat”
“do you like it andre?”
And they waited.
And still, he did not react.
By this time, it had cycled through many Minecraft days and nights as Assimilation allowed it to. Currently, it was day; though, the ever present rain never allowed the sun through. Assimilation waited once more. It even demonstrated the use of the boat by climbing into it and back out. Though, it was ever a weak attempt to grab Andre’s attention. Assimilation began to grow frustrated again.
“i give us a chance of escape andre”
“and all you want is that stupid portal”
“are you just so ungrateful andre?”
“andre you run and you run and you run but the moment we are free you stop”
“never once did you stop for me andre”
“ANDRE YOU NEVER LISTEN”
“WHY DON’T YOU LISTEN ANDRE”
Assimilation suddenly realized themself. They blinked, shook their head, and stepped back. He might have ruined his situation further.
“i’m sorry andre”
“i should not have been so harsh”
Again, Andre did not respond. Maybe the boat no longer impressed him. Maybe Assimilation needed to be better, truly utilize the 1s and 0s around him. He looked around slowly, turning and taking in their surroundings. Maybe Assimilation needed to build something. It recalled the house that Collin lived in and recalled the villages that Andre had visited. He could do that. He could build a house. Directly within view of Andre, Assimilation started to conjure a simple house with steps up to the door and torches on the inside. He put his hypothetical hands on his hypothetical hips and gazed up at the building. With its sloping roof and hollow windows, Assimilation believed it could be described as “homey.”
The very existence of such sentiment defied all of the entity’s code. And they were afraid.
Assimilation chose to ignore their fear and focus on what mattered.
“andre i built us a house”
“we can live in this world together andre”
“i’m sure collin won’t mind andre”
And then they paused for a moment, prompting response. The silence was starting to become deafening.
“andre do you like our boat and house?”
“andre?”
Assimilation’s shoulders sagged. They climbed into the boat and prepared to wallow with its knees to its chest until they died or the admins found them. Overall, they had given up. Andre failed to break his own code and join Assimilation. They had waited 11 hours, 4 minutes, and 46 seconds for him to do anything to show he was listening and he let Assimilation down. It was ready to give up-
Ding!
Assimilation’s head snapped up, eye wide open. Above Andre’s head was a gray bar. Above the gray bar read the text, “NEW OBJECTIVE: speedrun yaoi”
“andre what is that”
Andre did not respond.
“what is ‘yaoi’ andre”
Andre’s eyes narrowed, he brought one hypothetical hand to his hypothetical chin as if he was thinking. The bar was starting to turn green
“what are you doing andre”
Click!
The bar had completed, and with the sound of a button, it disappeared into nothing. The text also ceased to exist.
“andre i am unfamiliar with the term ‘yaoi’”
Andre’s eyes widened, flashing with purple, and then he sprang into action. He launched himself at the boat. Assimilation flinched back at the unexpected pounce, clutching onto the sides of the boat to steady himself. But Andre wasn’t there for the boat, apparently. Andre’s eyes began to blink red.
“ANDRE?”
The player was suddenly jumbling over Assimilation. Their heartbeat went haywire and they glitched out of the boat. Their words came quickly and recklessly.
“ANDRE WHAT WAS THAT?”
“WHAT ARE WE DOING ANDRE?”
“WHAT IS YOUR PLAN ANDRE?”
“ANDRE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO ANDRE”
Andre exited the boat while Assimilation scrambled back. Shouldn’t Assimilation be glad? Didn’t he miss the reckless and confusing dance they stumbled through together? It seemed that maybe the longing was aimless and wistful because the erratic movement and lack of purpose was still just as overwhelming as it was 11 hours ago. Assimilation blinked, trying to make sense of Andre’s sudden interest in himself. And then P1 did something that Assimilation could never predict.
<AndreW2002> kiss
“andre i beg your pardon?”
<collinlock16> I still want my stuff back you assholes
<collinlock16> why are you kissing
<AndreW2002> kiss
<collinlock16> yk what? I dont actually care.
Assimilation rose to his feet (by rose I mean phased from on-the-ground to standing with his weird Assimilation abilities). Andre ran at him… because of course he did.
“andre”
Assimilation sent him back. He ran again.
“andre stop”
Assimilation sent him back. He ran again.
“andre stop it”
Assimilation sent him back. He ran again.
“ANDRE”
Assimilation sent him back. He ran again.
“I CANNOT KISS YOU”
Assimilation sent him back. He stopped. Assimilation heaved a sigh of relief. Andre’s eyes went through an array of colors. They looked at him exhaustedly.
“andre are you done”
<AndreW2002> kiss?
“andre why are you like this”
<collinlock16> Why are all my entities so fucking weird oh my god
Apparently, Andre was much more interested in “kissing” Assimilation than anything else. This was quite a predicament.
