Summary:

I am using a site skin on my site and this hasn't broken yet so fingers crossed for you all if you have any errors just lmk and i will try to fix them A truly unreasonable amount of HTML went into this, so please enjoy <3

This fic has been living in my brain ever since I wrote Last Call and my other House M.D. fics. It’s kind of a love letter to that whole “story told through fragments” thing (emails, notes, forms, things people keep and things they forget to throw away)

This may get sad. I’m serious. I have two different endings planned and one of them is… not great for anyone involved. I’ll update tags if/when we get there. ignore how funky and long the nokia is it did not look like that until i figured out stupid fucking ao3's rich text button does not actually render a proper preview and my whole code broke in actual preview including this super cool unfolding animation i had for an interactive feature im srrryy guysss anyways!!! if anyone has html tips pls send them my way i am a veteran coder for JavaScript and Python not cracked ao3 fics so im sorry

Anyway. Enough background rambling.

I am glad you are coming.

It is black tie. That means tuxedos are expected—specifically jacket, trousers, formal shirt, bow tie. If you show up in anything resembling your usual attire, you will be stopped at the door and I will not be able to help you.

The event will be held at the Chauncey Hotel & Conference Center, 1 Chauncey Rd, Princeton, NJ 08541. It is a fundraising event, so there will be donors present, board members, and people Cuddy will expect us to behave in front of.

Start time is 9:00 PM, though arrival between 8:30 and 8:45 is recommended for seating and pre-event remarks.

Dinner service begins promptly at 9:30 PM, followed by speeches that will likely run longer than scheduled.

I would strongly advise against antagonizing anyone who writes a check. At least until dessert.

After that, I make no promises about your conduct or mine.

OFFICIAL INVITATION

Drinks @ O'Brien's Irish Pub, downtown
Thursday Dec 30th · 8PM · before we die at midnight

✓YES, I will come and be a normal person

✗NO, I am afraid of fun ← already checked for you

Fine. I'll be there. ("fine" enthusiasm radiating off this)

This is not an excuse to make it a late night. what is an excuse then

Clinic rounds start at 7AM on the 31st. i know. still going.

Ground rules:

1. Two drinks max. lol

2. We leave by 11. we will not leave by 11

3. This is just drinks. It is not a social experiment.

you are the experiment, wilson.

you've been in your natural habitat this whole time.

your "hot women hunting" suggestion

This is not a medically advisable activity given your current situation divorce #2 or #3? — emotional state.

I am coming as a colleague. This is collegial. sure

It is two colleagues having drinks before a hospital event.

you also wrote "collegial" twice.

you are scheduling your own disappointment, james.

— J. Wilson, M.D.—G (yes i'm coming, obviously)

Greg?

01:52

HOUSE

You ordered food.

01:52

WILSON

...yes. For two. Where are you?

01:53

HOUSE

I left. You were talking to that woman. The one with the—

01:53

WILSON

What woman.

01:54

HOUSE

The one you were making the face at. The red dress. You were doing the thing with your eyes.

01:54

WILSON

The thing with my— Greg. I was trying to get her to move so I could see the bar.

[pause]

01:55

HOUSE

...oh.

01:55

WILSON

You left because you thought I was going to go home with someone.

01:56

HOUSE

It was New Year's Eve. You're recently— it seemed like a reasonable assumption. I was being considerate.

01:56

WILSON

You were being considerate.

01:57

HOUSE

Don't say it like that.

01:57

WILSON

You left. Without saying anything. I turned around and you were just — gone. And then I called you three times.

01:58

HOUSE

I know. I saw.

01:58

WILSON

And you didn't pick up.

01:58

HOUSE

I was in a cab. It was loud.

It's one in the morning on New Year's Eve and you're calling me now to tell me you left because you were being considerate.

The food sounded good.

02:01

The food.

02:01

HOUSE

You got the sesame noodles. You know I like those.
