if not for you, where would i be?

Summary:

finney is just trying to live his life in a new home after being kidnapped previously, but he meets a certain boy who changes his life forever.

Notes:

ive been writing this on wattpad since november but i have finally seen the light and decided ao3 is better so now this is here since i finally finished writing this

this is a finney blake + robin arellano fanfic obviously based off of the black phone.

before we begin, i want to go over something.

the events of "the black phone" did happen, the only differences from the movie is that robin did not exist as a character yet, and neither did bruce & vance. the only ghosts that the grabber killed is billy, griffin, and an original character named michae, who's only purpose is to replace robin from the black phone part of the story, so we can still give finney his trauma.. bruce is gonna be finney's best friend that he meets in dallas, and of course, robin is gonna be someone finney meets in dallas aswell or else there would be no story. none of the weird complicated ghost shit events of "black phone 2" happen here.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: did that really just happen?

Chapter Text

january 13th, 1979

a month and a half after Finney got kidnapped

Finney Blake was laying in his bed, in his house in Denver, Colorado. Across the room, sitting on the floor was his at-the-time girlfriend, Donna Clarke. She was eating Finney's chips that she had guilt-tripped him into giving her.

Finney was just sitting there when Donna asked, "So, what are we gonna do?" Finney sighed and looked over at her. "I don't know, I might go to sleep soon. I'm tired." Donna got up as fast as she could and began to yell. "No, Finney! You can't, or else I'd have to leave!" She walked towards him as fast as she could.

"Don, I want sleep, and to be honest, my sleep schedule has been all over the place. I have barely been able to sleep at all, since, you know." Donna glared at Finney with an angry look. "Since you what? Since you got fucking kidnapped?! Finney, that was a fucking month ago, get over that shit."

"You know what, that's it! I've had enough of your bullshit, Donna! This isn't working out." Finney yelled at her. If she was gonna be this insensitive, he wasn't gonna deal with it. "Son of a bitch, you don't know what you're talking about. You love me!" Donna tried to convince him.

"Well, if you're gonna be insensitive enough to tell me to just get over my trauma from when I got kidnapped only a month and a half ago, this isn't working out! Besides, I'm going to be moving to Dallas this summer, and I have way too much going on to deal with a long distance relationship!"

Donna began to sob. "Finney, why?!" Finney got up from his bed in heated anger. "Didn't I just tell you why, bitch? Now get out, you whore!"

Donna stood there, foaming, doing nothing but. "GO!" He screamed it this time.

Donna ran out of the room, sobbing, leaving nothing behind of her stuff.

Terrence, his dad, came into the room, drunk as hell, furious. "Finney Blake, what the fuck was that?" He yelled, slurring over his words. "I broke up with her, dad! She's really nice, but she wasn't a good girlfriend!" His dad glared at him. "You probably broke her fucking heart, Finney! I know what it's like to be heartbroken, not good." He got his belt ready. "Oh, so just because she'd be sad means I'm stuck with her?! I didn't think it was working!"

Terrence looked furious, and Finney was scared. His dad had always been a little scary, but when his mom had killed herself, he went full-on alcoholic, and he was abusive. It was a problem. Every night when Finney would come home from school, he'd be passed out with a beer bottle in his hand, no dinner ready or anything.

After Finney had gotten kidnapped, he had tried to get better, but after a few weeks, he pretty much gave up and went back to his old ways. It made Finney sad, he had tried, but it didn't end up happening. It didn't happen then, and as his dad beat him for "breaking Donna's heart," it wouldn't happen now.

Finney feared it wouldn't ever happen. "Did that really just happen?"
