Work Text:

Magnus and Alec found themselves, after what seemed like hours, alone by at the edge of the beach, close to the waters. They'd been surrounded by family and friends, offering them congratulations, catching up with them and laughing with them, celebrating their marriage in a way they'd always dreamed of. And through it all, they'd held onto each other's hand, the promise they'd made to never let go of each other reflected in the simple gesture. Now, they were walking wordlessly along the beach as the sun set, warm hues lighting the sky, and at some point, they'd gotten close enough for Alec's hands to be draped around Magnus' waist, pulling his husband close, smiling as Magnus leant into him.

"Did you see where the kids went?" Magnus broke the silence, "The last I saw, there were with Julian."

"I'm sure they're okay," Alec answered, "I told Jace to look after them for the evening."

After another comfortable stretch of silence, alone with each other after the chaos of everything, Alec quietly asked, "Was this what you wanted?"

"Hm? Being married to you? I can say it's the best thing that's happened in my life," Magnus answered.

"Was it like how you wanted it though?" Alec pressed, "Warlock blue and Shadowhunter gold?"

Magnus stopped walking, catching Alec's hand in his own and brought him up for a quick kiss. "Of course, Alexander," he said, "It's everything I wanted and more. I know I'm normally the one who likes throwing a party in this relationship, but you've done a brilliant job, darling."

"I'm glad," Alec smiled, "I can't believe all of this actually happened. By the Angel, you're my husband, Magnus."

Magnus looked at him, eyes shining, "And you're mine, Alec. I- Wow."

"Is the Magnus Bane speechless?" Alec teased softly.

"Lightwood-Bane, thank you very much," Magnus corrected, and they both grinned at each other like the idiots in love that they were. In a more serious tone, Magnus asked, "So, the changing the rules part and making this marriage officially, how do we do that?"

"You're married to the Consul, remember?" Alec said, "I literally make the rules now. So no more stupid discriminatory laws."

"Stop reminding me about the power you now have," Magnus winked, "It makes me very hot for you."

"Oh, stop flirting," Alec rolled his eyes, "You're literally married to me." Alec didn't think he'd ever get sick of saying that.

"Hm," Magnus hummed, "That doesn't mean I have to stop flirting with my very handsome husband. Can't have him getting bored."

"Magnus, that may be the most stupid thing you've ever said to me," Alec said, "I still get butterflies when I see you half the time. I think it's impossible for me to get even remotely get bored of us."

"I'm glad," Magnus whispered, "And the teasing aside, I'm very aware my husband is the Consul. But I'm sure they'll still be many more formalities to literally rewrite law, Alec. Especially regarding Downworlders, considering it's still a sensitive topic, and there are so many small laws made at every single prejudiced thought a Clave member may have had. It's going to take-"

Alec kissed him, cutting him off. Magnus startled at the sudden affection, but relaxed quickly, cupping Alec's cheek and kissing him back, pulling him closer so their chests and hips connected. Alec pulled away, leaning his forehead against Magnus'. "Let me worry about that, okay? I don't care how many laws there are or how difficult it's going to be to change them. They're wrong and they should've never been made in the first place. I'm going to break the system apart and rebuild it.

And our marriage? It's as sacred as any other. My vows to you are as sincere as the vows of Angels themselves. I love you, and I'm going to change whatever needs to be changed to make this world a better place for you because you deserve that and so much more. That's my promise to you, okay? That's my worry, not yours. Let me figure this all out for us."

"Alec," Magnus was speechless again. He couldn't ever remember being as speechless as he was in the presence of Alec. "My Alec. I know why you think this your burden to bear. But your worries are mine. Just like your happiness is mine. That's the promise we've made to each other, so please remember you don't have to carry all of it alone, okay? And my world has already been made a thousand times better by you, Alexander. Never doubt that."

Alec smiled, eyes gleaming, the blue of them dark with love, hope, and so much happiness that Magnus could no longer resist tugging him by his lapels, murming a quiet, "Come here," before he sealed their lips together, starting a kiss that didn't end for a long time.

***

Magnus and Alec sat in the library of the New York Institute, Portalling back home well into the early hours of the next day after goodbyes, talking logisitics, and some very emotional hugging. In said library were also Clary, Jace, Simon and Izzy - Simon and Izzy sprawled on a love seat (the library had become more of a living room), Clary sat with Max on her knees, bouncing him, and Jace sat next to her, an arm thrown around her. Rafe was coiled in between Simon and Izzy, fast asleep from all the playing that evening. Magnus and Alec sat at a sofa, Magnus' head on Alec's chest, feet kicked out to the other side, Alec's hand lazily stroking his shoulder blade.

They'd been chatting, relishing a bit of normalcy after everything that had happened, the losses they had faced, and fully grateful to be with each other again. Magnus made to sit up, "Well, this has been lovely, but I'm getting tired. I'm ready to head home, if you are, Alec? And thank you for everything." Magnus said it with so much sincerity that the Shadowhunters barely concealed their surprise. "Don't all look so shocked," Magnus sighed, "This whole wedding this must've taken ages to plan, and I'm surprised you lot pulled it off without my expertise and- oomph."

Izzy had thrown herself into Magnus' arms, nearly sending him stumbling back to the sofa, and nearly waking Rafe. "I'm so so happy for you."

Magnus didn't say anything, simply held Izzy tight until she let him go, eyes glistening with tears that the warlock brushed away.

"Before you guys go," Jace started.

"Are you going to try to knock me off my feet too?" Magnus mused.

"I think Alec is the only one who can manage that," Jace winked, "But no, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to give you a wedding gift."

Magnus turned to face Alec, who looked at him with a shrug, indicating he had no clue what it was either.

Jace reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a ring. Magnus examined at and realised it was a Lightwood ring and his heart nearly burst with fondness for the Shadowhunters in this room. It was Jace's old one, Magnus thought, something he'd kept even though he'd started wearing the Herondale ring. He realised the weight of the gift, the trust, the love and the acceptance that came with it as Jace dropped it into his open palm. "Welcome to the family, Magnus. Not that you haven't been a part of it for the past four years."

"Thank you, Jace. Truly." Magnus smiled, and his happiness only blossomed when Jace met Alec's eye over Magnus' and both of them shared a look so profound it seemed almost wrong to be a part of it. He slipped the ring on his middle finger, resting next to his wedding ring.

"Well," Magnus said, getting ready to summon a Portal, "We will see you tomorrow. Or the day after. I could sleep for an entire day. Max, come on, blueberry. Alexander, are you alright getting Rafe?"

"There's no need for that," Simon said from his position on the love seat, unable to move with how Rafe had decided to throw an arm across him, "Isabelle and I will look after them tonight and tomorrow."

"And Alec," Clary said, getting up and giving them both a hug, "I better not see you here tomorrow. I know it's going to be hectic with the new Clave and everything, but Jace and I can handle it for one day, okay?"

Magnus and Alec looked at their family, speechless in gratitude and wonder. And then there was a lot of hugging, more tears, and a shriek of happiness from Max when he learnt he'd get to read comics with Uncle Si before Magnus finally created a Portal and stepped through, pulling Alec home.

***

When they reached the loft, Alec immediately started undoing his shoes, his bowtie just as Magnus started shedding his regal robe. Magnus snapped his fingers, folding into a neat stack on the sofa before he turned to Alec, who was shucking of his suit jacket and sighing in relief. Weddings were exhausting. Exhilarating. But exhausting.

"How about I help you with the rest of that, huh?" Magnus murmured to Alec, "Bedroom?"

Alec grabbed Magnus' wrist and tugged him towards their bedroom, pushing him against the wall before cupping his cheeks. "Let me look at you," Alec breathed, "God, Magnus. I'm so glad to be home." He was thinking back to how the illness spreading to the warlocks had depleted Magnus so much, how sallow and tired he had looked, and a great wave of relief flooded him now, having the time to fully look at Magnus now, his eyes bright, cheeks flush and a small smile pulling his lips up.

"What are you thinking about?" Magnus asked.

"How you nearly died on me," Alec said, "And how relieved I am that you're okay."

"I'm more than okay," Magnus smiled, "And I'll try not to die on you again. But I must admit, I was hoping you were thinking sexier thoughts."

"That can easily be arranged," Alec whispered, "It's a struggle not to think sexy thoughts when you're near me. Now... you wanted to undress me?"

"I always want to undress you," Magnus winked, "Come on. Lie down."

Magnus urged Alec towards their bed, and when Alec settled against the pillows, Magnus unbottoned the first button, leaning on one of his elbows. As the button came down, Magnus kissed the skin being revealed. He did the same for the next three buttons, and then pushed the shirt away to start leaving messier kisses at Alec's collarbone, leaving the places he knew Alec was most sensitive at. There was time tonight.

"Kiss me," Alec mumbled, "Come here."

And Magnus indulged him, starting slow before his tongue slipped into Alec's mouth, making the kiss wetter, causing Alec to moan. When Magnus pulled away to breathe, he went back to Alec's neck, kissing the side this time, grinning when Alec turned to give him more room.

"What is with you and my neck?" Alec asked, hands skimming up and down Magnus' back.

"I think the question is what is with you and your sensitive neck?" To emphasise this, Magnus licked and then bit a spot he knew Alec liked, and Alec groaned, hands tightening on Magnus' shoulders. Magnus grinned, "See?"

"Stop looking so accomplished," Alec grumbled.

Magnus didn't. He bit at the same spot again, just to see Alec cry out softly and Magnus realised Alec was trying to muffle his sounds, like they'd been doing for the past few years after they'd had kids. It had become habit. "You don't need to hold back," Magnus murmured, "It's just us."

And so this time, when Magnus bit his collarbone, Alec let out a low moan, reminding Magnus of when they'd first started learning each other, how every touch and kiss seemed to make Alec lose his mind, causing him to whine and moan without ever really being aware of it. "What do you want, Alexander?"

"You," Alec's reply was instantaneous.

"You don't need to sweet talk me," Magnus rolled his eyes, "Tell me what you want."

"You could finish undressing me for one," Alec said.

"And then?" Magnus divested Alec of his shirt.

"Kiss me."

"Where?"

"Everywhere."

So Magnus started. First at the junction of his shoulders and neck, down his neck, his chest, his abs - a personal favourite of Magnus'. And soon, Alec was squirming, letting out gasps when Magnus bit his skin, lowly moaning when the kisses became open-mouthed and dirty. When Magnus reached Alec's trousers, he slipped a finger in and looked up at Alec.

"What are you waiting for?" Alec groaned, "Take them off."

And so Magnus did. "Now, what do you want?"

"Magnus- just anything," Alec sighed, "I'm not sweet talking. I just want you. Whatever you do, it doesn't matter. The fact it's you makes me lose it."

His trousers were becoming incredibly tight at Alec's words. But he wanted to cherish Alec first, so he forgot about his painful nether regions and said, "You're so beautiful, Alec." And then he kissed Alec on the mouth, open and warm, slipping a hand into Alec's pants, making him arch of the bed with a cry of Magnus' name. "This good?"

"You know it is," Alec gasped out, trying to keep his hips still even as his eyes closed, head thrown back.

"Move, Alexander," Magnus said, sensing how tense Alec was.

"I don't want it to end too soon," Alec admitted, his hands tightening on the golden sheets below him as Magnus moved his hands expertly, "Oh, oh, Magnus."

"We have all night," Magnus reminded him, "You think I'm going to be done after one round? It's our wedding night. We're doing this until we can't walk straight tomorrow."

"Shit, fuck, okay," Alec gasped, Magnus' words making his lust-filled brain even foggier, "Sounds - oh, mm, Magnus - sounds perfect."

"Yeah? Now stop holding back on me and move."

That was all Alec needed to match Magnus' pace, grunting, moaning, saying 'Magnus' every other breath, until he arched of the bed, falling of the edge with a cry of Magnus' name which made the warlock moan.

Alec came down from his high to Magnus stroking his sweat-soaked hair away from his eyes and he smiled at his husband, pulling him down for a lazy kiss. And then he flipped them over so that he was on top and grinned, "Now your turn. Tell me what you want."
