Work Text:
Reigen’s long strides almost seemed to carry a bounce to them as he and Mob approached their destination, the tall conman’s mystery bag rustling quietly with each step. It wouldn’t have been noteworthy to the young psychic, but their apparent destination was…unusual.
“…Master? I thought we had work. I don’t sense anything off about this place.” Mob questioned quietly, before casting his eyes down and slouching slightly. “I missed leg day for this…”
Reigen turned on his heel and flourished an arm out, the other still holding the bag (which Mob has been assuming was salt up until this point).
“I’ll admit, this is no normal job, Mob.” He then leaned down and placed his free hand on Mob’s head, ruffling his hair in the process. “This is a lesson;” At this, Mob perked up slightly, “A lesson on compassion toward animals!” Reigen then reached into the bag and handed the contents to his young student, turning to face a large pond. “We’re here to feed ducks! Open up that bag of lettuce and let’s get started!”
At the realization of their intended purpose in this location, Mob let out a quiet ‘oh’ before taking a few cautious steps towards the aquatic birds, carefully opening the bag. As Mob went to work, Reigen headed over to a nearby bench to supervise. He set his forearms on his knees, leaning forward heavily.
Mob had been through a lot lately, with the events of the CLAW attack still fresh in everyone’s minds. He knew Mob only wanted things to go back to normal, but the kid needed a break. Preferably a long vacation somewhere far away from here, but this would have to do for now.
Reigen glanced down at his hands and clenched them. Mob has always worked so hard to be normal, and no matter how hard he tried, the universe tried to throw him off course. He stole a glance at Mob and smiled to himself.
The boy was giggling quietly as the ducks gathered around him to get their share of the shredded vegetable. As if sensing his master’s eyes on him, he turned his head gave him that small, genuine smile that never failed to warm his sweaty heart. The conman leaned back on the bench and waved lazily to the teenager, content with the scene.
