Trinity Doesn't Want To Know

Summary:

Santos is catching on to something she rather not, but she can't seem to not notice...

Notes:

I barely edited this, might go back later to edit this. But after the finale I had to post this immediately. Hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

Trinity Santos hates how observant she can be at times. It’s like a regular person discovering they’ve had superpowers all along. Awesome to know you have them, that she could use them for good.  A curse when you have to use them when you don’t want too. Nor want to use when it concerns your most least favorite person in the world. —And this is what she gets for letting Whitaker convince her to watch all the spider man movies Jesus—

It’s not her fault she’s caught on. Nor that she’s probably not going to be the only one. But she’s the first to catch on and that’s what she hates.

She hates him.

Langdon.

She doesn’t even bother caring about using his whole government name. Acknowledging his last name is good enough, as far as she’ll go.

So why did it have to be her to notice that Frank Langdon is madly in love with Mel King? At this point, someone should give her a trophy for all the bullshit she endures at this goddamn emergency hospital.

“Santos! Trauma 2!” Dana calls out to her.

She starts making her way, when she spots them, Langdon and Mel heading to trauma 2.

“Fuck me.” She mumbles under her breath.

“You got this, Mel.”

Trinity wants to roll her eyes, all Mel’s  doing is making an incision on the patients chest. She could do that in her damn sleep.

She stares at them, watching as Langdon hovers  over Mel, his hands grazing Mel’s back. He drops it, as if he's suddenly aware, she quickly looks away when she feels his eyes on her. She watches the incision being made, as if it’s the most interesting thing in the world.

“Done…” Mel says softly, looking up smiling at Trinity before turning to Langdon.

And here they go…

Seriously, that whole saying of “time stops and all you see is them,” is happening right in front of her eyes. It’s making her sick. She wants to be sick… but she can’t help but think how cute—

She gets up abruptly.

"We're done here, I guess."

Mel looks at her again, a small smile on her face. Her eyes seemed to have soften, something she was starting to call the "Langdon effect," she hates it. But her brain came up with it and she can't seem to shake it off. She doesn't miss the way Langdon is staring at Mel like she's the moon. It would be sweet but Santos doesn't trust it.

Isn't he married with two kids?

She walks out, leaving them in there by themselves. She spots Whitaker, she doesn't hesitate, she practically speeds towards him.

Whitaker jumps back in surprise, his brows already furrowing, his mouth shaped like an O.

"I have something I need to tell you."

"Okay? Did something happen?"

Trinity sighed, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. She really didn't want anyone to hear this. This was different, considering she was now Mel's friend and didn't want to put her in a tough spot. A whole new betting pool will be created and Trinity didn't want to be responsible for it.

"Have you noticed anything weird between—" Langdon walks out of Trauma 2, she hesitates, watching as he goes the opposite direction—"Langdon and Mel?"

Whitaker whipped his face around to meet her eyes, the furrow between his brows deepening. God, Huckleberry could be so goddamn clueless sometimes. She refrains from letting out a deep sigh. Seriously? Was she really that observant or were people just this oblivious?

"Come on, Huckleberry. Use your brain cells, haven't you noticed their attached to the hip? Always finishing each other's sentences. Always so close?"

Something casts over Whitaker's face, a small smirk, finally he's caught on.

"This is about Garcia isn't it?"

WHAT?!

"You got to be fucking—"

"The fling between you ended and you need a passion project."

"The fact that you think I see Langdon and Mel as a passion project says a lot about you. This has nothing to do with my ex situationship. I cannot be the only one who sees it?! Please Whitaker, think."

She wanted to scream, especially since Langdon and Mel have done things near Whitaker. She really tries to refrain from calling him dumb. But it sits at the tip of her tongue, she wants to blurt it out almost.

"I think you're just trying to distract yourself. You're seeing things that aren't there." He says, so casually it's frustrating.

"God, I cannot believe you."

"Am I wrong?"

When did he get so cocky? Did she really rub off of him, cause she can vaguely hear herself in the way he's talking.

As she scans the room, there they were! Langdon was practically letting Mel squeeze his biceps and no one, as she scanned the room further seemed to notice! For fuck sake! She looked towards Donnie, who stood next to them but he was so concerned with filling a syringe to notice.

Whitaker was too busy with his tablet to even catch what she'd seen.

She looked towards Perlah and Princess, but they were gossiping about Robby to even notice too.

"Fuck me."

"Uh.. no thanks."

"Not you, Fuckleberry!"

She storms off, annoyed to the brim, her eyes still on them, the way they lean into each other. This has to be considered emotionally cheating!

Mel was charting next to her, her tongue sticking out as she focused on her screen. Trinity barely moved her fingers against her keyboard. This was bothering her, but she also didn't want to pry.

Mel eyes swept to Trinity, she quickly looked away, typing on her keyboard, as if it made a difference.

"Trin?"

"Uh yeah?"

Mel lets out a deep sigh, her hands tightening around itself, she looks away, Trinity yanks her rolling chair closer to Mel, her eyes now very attentive.

"If I tell you something. Will you keep it between us?" Mel whispers, a look of guilt splotches on Mel's face.

Holy shit…

"I mean, I'll judge a little bit. But I won't tell anyone. What's up girl?"

Mel eyes dart around the room, they seemed to be in the clear, Mel rolls her chair closer to Trinity's. Her eyes downcast, another deep breath exhaled. Oh god, no…

"You have to know, I would never naturally be in this situation. It just sorta happened."

"Uh huh.."

God, please, she knows she barely speaks to him. But please, don't let it be what she thinks it is. Is anyone even listening up there? Hello?

"And, I am not that kind of person. I mean you've been my friend long enough to know that. I just, this is different. While I hope it is, because I would be crushed if it wasn't the case. I just—"

"Mel, what are you trying to tell me?"

Mel drew in a breath.

"I kissed Langdon!" Mel hissed under her breath, Mel eyes widen, her hand covering her mouth.

Trinity freezes, holy shit, she was right. Thanks a lot higher being, her own eyes widen, her hands hovering over her keyboard. This can't be real, this is a dream right? She clears her throat.

"You kissed him or he kissed you?"

"I don't know, one second we were just saying nice things to each other. Then we were leaning and before I knew it, we kissed!"

Mel looked around the room, Trinity could only stare at her, what does one say to their friend who kissed a married man? One whom she personally wasn't a big fan of and hated.

"Was it a good kiss a least?"

Ew! Why would she ask that, she didn't want to know if he was a good kisser or not. But what was she even supposed to say?!

"Very. Like I was uh blown away."

Gross…

"Wow… but Mel, isn't he like married?"

Mel bite her lip, her eyes meeting Trinity's again.

"I don't know if I feel comfortable disclosing that."

Trinity tilts her head, she can't be serious?

"Mel, you literally just told me you two kissed. And you can't disclose his marital status?"

Mel scratches her temple, her face scrunching up, all Trinity can do is wait for her to speak again.

"He's getting…a divorce."

Oh…

"Was it like a peck?"

"No…"

Jesus, Langdon, it feels wrong that she's the first to know. She should have been the last to know, but clearly that wasn't going to be the case.

"Did you two talk yet about—"

"Mel?"

Trinity watches as Mel freezes. Langdon stands behind her, looking like a lost puppy, she can feel herself recoil from inside. She hopes she didn't look like that when Garcia ended things with her. He leans towards her like a flower reaching for sunlight, his eyes glued to the back of Mel's head.

Mel looks towards Trinity, then gets up, "I have to go check on my patient. It's been twenty minutes."

Before Langdon can shape a word out of his mouth, Mel is rushing down towards Central.

Trinity blinks, watching as Mel disappears, she can feel Langdon still standing there. Please, don't talk to me. Please, don't—

"She told you?"

Oh fuck me!

"It's none of my business."

She finally begins charting, which she should have been doing. At least, she's getting it done now.

"It's not what you think. I wouldn't ever hurt her."

Did he think he was like in a rom-com? This cannot be happening to her, she tucks on her ponytail, letting the feeling of it tightening take her mind off of what he's saying. It doesn't.

"Seriously, it's between you two. I want nothing to do with this."

Langdon rubs his mouth, he looks like he's thinking about what to say. And she doesn't want to hear it. She doesn't want to be involved, she really doesn't. Despite how much she gossips with her friends, with Perlah and Princess, this is the last thing she wants.

Trinity decides to stare at her screen instead, she reaches for a pen. Something to ground her.

"I know the two of you are friends. That she tells you things she clearly can't tell me."

Someone save her, please. She stares at Whitaker, but clearly their telepathic connection doesn't work when she needs it most. He's too busy, speaking to Dana to even bother throwing a glance her way.

"I mean it, I don't care to know."

"Okay, but she told you."

There's a beat. She taps the pen against the table.

"That's not a no…"

Yeah. No. She was not about to have a conversation with him.

"Langdon… I am not doing this."

Langdon freezes, bites his lip and nods.

"Right, my bad."

He turns, his eyes scheming around, before walking away, probably to look for Mel. She doesn't bother to turn, just continues to chart. She would just put this in the back of her head. Not her circus…
