Holly Wheeler walked down the stairs to the basement. There was her brother, Mike Wheeler. Mike had been Dating Will for a while now and Holly loved how happy he made her brother. She wasn't mad o anything like that, she appreciated her brother in every way! That's how she knew when she started feeling that she might like girls and began to panic, she knew who to go to.
Mike was lying down on the floor reading his comic book focused in his own world. When he glanced up and noticed Holly, he beamed.
"So..." Holly suddenly got nervous, this was her brother for gods sake! She could trust him! "You know how you and Will are like dating"
"Yeah... why" Mike looked at his sister. She seemed nervous Mike wanted to know why.
"How did you know you were..." Holly looked around unsure of what to do. They were in their house in the basement. Mike was in the middle of his comic book when he put it down and stood up.
"Gay?" Relief came to Holly as he said it. He's understand.
"Yeah"
"Well, I'm bi which means I like boys and girls and believe me that was really difficult to get through!"
Holly was confused, Mike had never mentioned this, she thought it had been easy for him.
"How come?"
"Well... you know how I was dating El?" Holly nodded her head "I really did like her so when I began to get romantic feelings for Will that kinda was weird"
"Didn't she break up with you?"
"Yeah that day at the mall, we got back together but... the spark kinda fizzled out after that. The Summer of 1985?"
Holly was interested now she had never heard of any of this. "Yeah..."
Mike hesitated for a second and then continued "That was really hard for me because I loved El but sometimes I liked boys too and I wondered whether I made up my love for El which wasn't true but I was scared and lashed out. To Will of all people!" Mike sighed he struggled to talk about this but he thought that Holly needed to hear this "When El broke up with me in the mall it was like my worst fear had come true, that I really didn't love her and that's what I did wrong"
"So when El broke up with you, you and Will started dating right?" Holly questioned, she was learning so much abut her brother! It intrigued her.
Mike laughed and shook his head. "If only it was that simple! We got back together. Yay! I guess. The spark soon fizzled out after California though, and that's when I started having feelings for Will. It was really scary but I managed it!"
Holly was glad her brother was telling her about this but she was wondering something that had been on her mind for a while. Mike told everyone (except their parents) at once that he liked boys and girls but did he tell anyone before that? Before she could stop herself, Holly blurted out "Did you tell anyone before out came out to us?"
Mike smiled knowingly. "Well that was complicated I couldn't tell Lucas or Dustin because I was worried about what they might think. I couldn't tell Will because I was worried he'd find out that I liked him. I couldn't tell Nancy because we don't really talk about this kind of stuff and I certainly could tell Mum and Dad because-"
Holly cut Mike off confused. "Wait, why couldn't you tell Mum and Dad?"
Mike blinked and then got this sad look on his face. "Mum sheltered you from this but some of the stuff her and Dad said about gay people... they certainly didn't shelter me!"
Holly pondered this for a sec, she always wondered why Mike hadn't told Mum or Dad and she was scared that she didn't really know her own parents. "So who did you tell or did you not tell anybody until you came out to all of us?"
Mike blinked then answered "I couldn't keep it bottled up inside of me it was getting way too much for me to handle on my own so I went with the obvious choice!"
"Which is?"
"Max!"
Holly blinked and wondered if she heard Mike right. Max, the girl Mike hated? No maybe it was a different Max.
"OUR Max?" Holly questioned.
"I know surprised me! We were in a bathroom stall and I told her. She didn't judge and supported me believe me when I say it was a relief!" Mike confirmed.
"What do you do if you think you like girls as well as boys?" Holly questioned.
Mike looked at Holly then smiled warmly. "That's the thing Hols! You don't DO anything you just be yourself!"
At that moment Will walked in smiling.
"Hey Mike, hey Hols sorry I'm just dropping off some-"
Mike cut him off with a kiss, Will answered with a noise of surprise, then deepened the kiss. When they parted, Will blushed and looked really flustered.
"Wh-what was that for?" Will stuttered.
Mike grinned "Just really wanted to kiss you"
Holly smiled happily because at that moment she knew that her brother was always gonna be on her side.
