The second Rex got home, he immediately collapsed into his bed. He hadn't even bothered to check the time, but it was probably around 10 pm or so.
He laid on his back, hair down and messy, his superhero outfit still on with the exception of the mask. The pillows were crooked under his head and the crumpled blanket lazily covered the lower half of his legs.
There were things he needed to do. He needed to run the laundry machine, he needed to run the dishwasher, he needed to shower, he needed to do something for himself for once, but.. he just didn't have the energy.
Oh, and he also felt like absolute shit. But who wouldn't after spending nearly their entire day fighting what felt like every goddamn alien on earth?
He pleaded with the universe, please, just let him get up and do something. Anything.
He tried to get up. Muscles tensed as he tried to force it, but all he managed to do was balance on his elbow for a second before it gave out.
Once again, he laid there. Lazy. Inefficient. Stupid. Nothing done.
He hated how often this happened, and he especially hated how he didn't know why this happened.
His eyelids felt heavy. A sigh. He decided it was probably best to just accept it and sleep. His responsibilities could wait until morning anyways.
His eyes drifted closed, and this time, he didn't make any moves to stop it. His breathing slowed, and he slowly drifted out of consciousness..
Until a sharp pain and heavy pressure made itself very aware on his stomach.
He sucked air through his teeth and flinched slightly, neither pressure nor pain leaving. "Ow, what.." He struggled to open his eyes. Another very heavy thing made it's way onto his stomach, and he put up a hand to get whatever it was off. His hand met with a very soft and warm object, and he paused.
Rex blinked the sleep out of his eyes. The creature on top of him leaned forward to touch it's nose with his, and green met yellow.
"Havoc.." Rex winced, the pain in his stomach now in four places, the added two on his chest. "You can't just- ow- wake me up like that."
Havoc kneaded at his owner's chest as a low rumbling sound escaped from his throat, not knowing or caring about the small holes he was putting in Rex's shirt. He didn't understand what his owner was saying, but he was happy to hear his voice.
Rex didn't shove the cat off of him like he was going to earlier. The fluffball did this nearly every night, he just sat through the pain at this point. Though, he usually did it when Rex was fully conscious.
The pain subsided eventually, and it was replaced with a heavy, but non-painful loaf on his torso. He sighed in relief that the bad part was over.
Havoc rested his soft head just under Rex's collarbone, gentle purrs filling the silence.
The hero felt safer than he'd felt before now. He knew Havoc couldn't really protect him if he was in danger, shit, the cat would probably just run away. Hm. Maybe it was some psychology thing he would've learned about if he went to school.
He let his mind wander, carefully avoiding the more negative thoughts. Shows, movies, Eve-.. not right now. Mark. Wasps. The color blue..
Eventually, his muscles relaxed, his breathing slowed, and his thoughts quieted, his companion's soft purrs lulling him into a peaceful sleep.
