Chapter 1: 1- soccer match

Chapter Text

Sae stepped out of the airport sporting his signature paparazzi disguise, a large hoodie, a hat, and a pair of dark sunglasses. He scanned the large parking lot looking for his manager's black Mercedes-Benz car. It was dark out so the task proved harder than usual. He was supposed to go see his demon play for blue lock team against the national German team. Shidou was extremely insistent on Sae coming, promising to show him a successful hat trick. If it were anyone else Sae would decline and probably say something along the lines of ‘I don’t need or want to see your half-baked plays’, but since it was Shidou who begged and pleaded he begrudgingly agreed. If he didn't he was sure he would just hear persistent whining or complaining for the rest of his life. The flight was long and Sae felt his back ache from the prolonged seated position he was in. He reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone and turning it on. The second his phone clicked to life he saw how he was bombarded with excessive messages from said demon, he would look at them after he told his manager to come pick him up from this boring ass airport. He needed to get into the privacy of the car urgently.

Sae:

I landed. Waiting out front.

He didn’t bother waiting for a response. His thumb swiped away from the contact and clicked on his pinned one instead.

Ryusei:

Sae-channn text me when you land

Excited to see you

I missed youuu and I know you missed me

I can have someone pick you up from the airport

Actually no I wanna pick you up myself

Wait no I have to practice for the match

Actually fuck that I can do both

Text me back

Sae started typing out his message, internally laughing a little to himself at the desperation from the other boy. How come Shidou never just sent one text, he always made sure to double or quadruple text.

Sae:

Landed.

Not even two seconds later, the typing bubble appeared.

Ryusei:

Do you want me to leave the stadium and come get you <3

Sae:

No.

Ryusei:

Ouch

At least tell me what you’re wearing

Sae looked down at himself. A large gray hoodie, black sweatpants, black hat, black shoes, black sunglasses. Nothing special or interesting really.

Sae:

Clothes?

Ryusei:

LMAOOO

Probably still hot

I can feel my cells tingling just imaging it 🤤

Sae immediately locked his phone and shoved it back into his pocket. He spotted the familiar car pulling into the loading lane and made his way toward it, a duffel bag slung over one shoulder. His manager stepped out of the driver’s seat and opened the back door for him.

“Long flight?” He asked as Sae slid into the backseat.

“Mm.” Sae hummed in agreement, not bothering to give him a real response.

His manager shut the door and walked around to the front, climbing back into the car before pulling out of the pickup lane. Sae leaned his head lightly against the seat, watching the streets pass by while his phone remained heavy in his pocket. He already knew if he looked at it again there would be more messages. At least ten more, maybe even twenty. He took off the hat and sunglasses and placed them on the seat beside them.

“Are you heading straight to the hotel?” his manager asked.

Sae looked out the window for another moment before answering.

“No.”

“The stadium?”

“Yes.”

His manager glanced at him briefly through the rearview mirror, clearly a little surprised.

“You usually don’t go early.”

Sae didn’t respond. There was no point explaining that if he arrived too late, Shidou would absolutely whine about it for the rest of the week. The thought alone was exhausting. Inside his pocket his phone buzzed again and again. Sae ignored it for a full minute before finally pulling it out.

Ryusei:

Are you in the car

Did you get kidnapped

Nvm i can see your location

You’re on the way

gonna explode just thinking about seeing your face in person

The corner of Sae’s mouth twitched up before he could stop it. Shidou was such an idiot. He typed out a quick message.

Sae:

Focus on your match.

Shidou:

I am focused

I can multitask

Sae read the message before locking his phone yet again. His manager, still watching the road, spoke up after a few seconds.

“You seem to be in a better mood.”

Sae looked up sharply.

“I’m not.”

His manager hummed like he didn’t believe him. Outside, the stadium was beginning to come into view in the distance. From the highway, Sae could already see the lights. If Shidou didn’t score that promised hat trick after dragging him all the way out here he was probably going to kill him. He grabbed the sunglasses and rested them over his eyes not wanting to deal with excess fan interactions. His manager parked near the entrance, as Sae was climbing out of the car he told him he would call a driver after the match ended. Sae nodded, picking up his duffel bag and making his way through the entrance. He pulled off his sunglasses once he reached security and flashed his ID with practiced ease. The staff member’s eyes widened for half a second before they quickly straightened up and nodded.

“Right this way, Mr. Itoshi.”

Sae followed without a word. They led him through a hallway, making their way towards his seat. One of the staff members stopped in front of a door and opened it for him.

“This is your section.”

Sae stepped through and immediately paused. His isolated seat was positioned high enough to overlook the entire field, it was a pretty good view. The other sections were slowly but surely filling up, it was going to be packed, the tickets for this event were completely sold out. His eyes drifted, automatically scanning the field for Ryusei...and there his demon was. Even from this distance, Sae could pick him out immediately. He was stretching on the sidelines with some of his other teammates. Sae picked up his phone and typed out another message.

Sae:

Im here, just got seated.

He looked up from his phone seeing as Shidou got the message in real time. Sae threw his sunglasses off relaxing back into the seat. Shidou pulled his phone out and scanned around the crowd looking for Sae. When their eyes met Shidou waved wildly, blowing an obnoxious kiss towards him. He glanced back down at his phone, thumbs typing with a passion.

Ryusei:

If my team wins I get to sleep in ur hotel with you tonight

Deal?

Sae scoffed, rolling his eyes. He looked up giving Shidou a warning glare.

Sae:

We’ll see how you play.

Ryusei:

That isn't a no

I’ll be looking forward to it lashes

Anyway Ego’s glaring at me

Gotta put my phone away

Text you after the match

Can I get a good luck kiss 💋

Sae:

Gross.

No, a real player doesn’t need to rely on luck.

Ryusei:

Boo

I’ll get one after the match anyways

Sae watched as Ryusei tossed his phone on the bench telling one of his teammates to look after it. The stands slowly but surely filled up as the match was getting closer and closer to starting. Shidou blew Sae another kiss before taking his position on the field. The other team walked out and took their stances. The match was starting and Sae found himself wondering if the blue lock team had gotten any better since the last time he played against them. Shidou was placed as a forward alongside side Rin, behind them were some recognizable faces but Sae didn't care enough to learn their names. The ref blew the whistle and the game started.

Shidou’s team did win, and he even managed to score three goals in a row. Sae was impressed by the amount of skill he portrayed. He was definitely better now than when he played with Sae. When the hell did he learn all these extra skills, how was Ego training them these days? He stood up from his seat, grabbed his bag and made his way down to the field. He pulled out his phone and typed out a quick message to his manager telling him the game was over. Once he reached the tunnel entrance leading toward the pitch, he slowed his pace down. A few players were talking to the press, some were celebrating, and others were just standing around trying to catch their breath after the intensity of the game. He saw Rin out of the corner of his eye talking to some of his teammates. Now was not the time to say hi, his brother would probably just shrug him off or tell him to leave. Sae should text him later. He entered the pitch looking for Shidou, he was of course impossible to miss. He was standing near the center of the field, laughing like a maniac while one of his teammates was clapping him on the back yelling out a rather loud congratulations. His jersey was clinging to him with sweat, his blonde and pink hair slightly damp and messy under the bright lights of the stadium. Shidou turned his head, catching Sae’s gaze on him.

The grin on Shidou’s face somehow got even wider. Oh, brother. Before Sae could even think about turning around and leaving, Shidou had already broken away from whoever he was talking to and started running toward him. He jumped directly on top of Sae wrapping his arms around his neck. Sae took Shidou’s arms and ripped them off himself, pushing him back by the chest to create distance. Seems like distance didn’t fix his demon’s personal space problem.

“Told ya, I’d win.”

Sae looked him over for a moment before responding.

“You played well.”

Shidou blinked once, his eyes widening like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His smile faltered slightly before doubling in size.

“Whoa,” he laughed, leaning down slightly like he was trying to hear better. “Did Sae Itoshi just compliment me?”

“Don’t make it weird.”

“Too late. You got me all fired up.”

Sae rolled his eyes not wanting the compliment to fuel the demon’s ever growing ego.

“You still have things to work on. You over committed twice on the left side.” He grimaced having to humble the striker a bit.

“Yeah, because that defender kept trying to force me outward.”

“And you let him.”

“Not for long.” Shidou clicked his tongue.

“No,” Sae admitted, “Not for long.”

That seemed to satisfy his demon. Shidou leaned a little closer, eyes glinting with pride under the fluorescent stadium lights.

“So,” he drawled, voice dropping into something much more playful, “my team won.”

Sae already knew where this was going.

“And?”

“And,” Shidou repeated, stretching the word out with a grin, “that means I get to sleep in your hotel tonight.”

Sae stared at him in silence. Then he adjusted the strap of his duffel bag on his shoulder and started walking. From the corner of his eye he saw Rin glaring at him with his arms crossed. He turned slightly to make direct eye contact with his brother and gave him an approving nod. Rin just rolled his eyes and gave him the finger turning his back on him to continue talking with a shorter blue haired player. That's the closest he'll get to a warm welcome, hes sure that Rin will text him later to complain about how he came and about how he was publicly talking to Ryusei.

“Come on then.” He sighed before turning on his heels.

For once, Shidou looked completely caught off guard. His eyes widened slightly before he immediately lit up, practically vibrating where he stood.

“Wait, seriously?!”

Sae didn’t bother to turn around or stop.

“If you make me repeat myself, I’m leaving without you.”

That was all the motivation Shidou needed.

“Oi, wait for me!” he laughed, immediately jogging after him. “Damn gorgeous if I knew you’d agree that easily I would've said something better.”

Sae kept walking, calm as ever, while Shidou fell into step beside him still riding the high of both the win (game and the hotel room) and the fact that Sae had actually shown up to come watch him. The two walked out of the entrance together waiting on the sidewalk for the driver to pull up. Around them more and more people flooded out some complimenting Shidou on his win and others asking for a picture.

Sae was glad his disguise was working as well as it was, or maybe it was because of Shidou's overcompensating look. Sae pulled his hoodie further up mostly blocking his face from the public. The familiar black car rolled up slowly, the door unlocking with a loud click. Sae swung the door open and slid in wordlessly, Shidou followed suit sliding in directly next to Sae. The minute the two were out of sight of fans Shidou slid in closer pressing his thigh against Sae's.

"You liked the match?" Shidou asked after a second.

"Like I said before, it was decent." Sae tilted his head as he took the sunglasses off. He rested them neatly in his lap.

"I know, I just like hearing it come outta your mouth."

“Your first touch was sloppy though, just because you did decent doesn't mean you made no mistakes.” Sae glanced at him from the corner of his eye.

“That pass was late.” Shidou scoffed.

“You should have adjusted then. Don't blame bad passes on your inability to adapt.”

Beside him Shidou let out a loud groan dropping his head against Sae's shoulder.

“I still scored. And you still came all the way out here to watch me do it.”

Sae didn’t answer that. He just looked back out the window like the passing lights were suddenly more interesting. He debated shrugging Shidou off, but decided it was more trouble than worth.

“Yeah,” Shidou hummed, clearly satisfied. “Thought so.”

“Don’t read into it.”

“Too late lashes. Already gonna be dreamin about it.”

“Unfortunately.” Sae shifted slightly, crossing one leg over the other.

“Speak for yourself.” Shidou laughed picking his head up. He leaned over trying to press a kiss to the side of Sae's face, but was blocked by a hand shoving him backwards. Shidou stumbled back against the seat creating a small distance between the two.

“Hands off.” Sae exhaled through his nose. “If you keep trying, I’m telling the driver to turn around.”

“Wow,” Shidou gasped dramatically. “After I carried the whole match, and scored three goals just for you?”

“You missed twice, I wouldn't say you carried the match. It was due to Rin's assist that you were even able to score any goals. ”

"Come to my next match and I'll score all by myself." Shidou scooted back to his previous position.

"We'll see." Sae crossed his arms in front of himself watching as the street lamps pass by.
