The Crime Alley Angel

Summary:

Fact One. When Tim was still in what Dick lovingly called his stalker era, he often hung around Crime Alley.
Fact Two. He often took money, snacks, clothes or blankets with him to the street kids.
Fact Three. Tim learned early on how to not make any noise when he moved, often scaring people by seemingly just showing up, not being noticed until he spoke.
Fact Four. It was dark, and Tim’s bright blue eyes were almost luminescent when reflecting the streetlights correctly.
This was not meant to lead to Tim being a Cryptid. (Seriously, was he just meant to find out that he was a Cryptid legend on his own?!)

Notes:

So I got into buzzfeed unsolved... this came of it.

The Crime Alley Angel: A Gotham Cryptid for the ages

This week on Buzzfeed unsolved we investigate what the locals of Gotham have dubbed “The Crime Alley Angel” as part of our ongoing investigation into the city of Gotham’s urban legends. Today we hone in on one specific part of the City, Park Row… or what the locals have dubbed Crime Alley

Gotham City is no stranger to masked vigilantes, conspiracy theories, or things that absolutely should not be lurking in the shadows. But even by Gotham standards, this one stands out…

Let’s get into the story of the Crime Alley Angel…

Narrator: On October 19th, 2012, the Crime Alley Angel made its first recorded appearance.
Or, at least—its first reported appearance.
According to rumours, the figure was first spotted near the edge of Crime Alley, lingering where Park Row begins to break down into something far less maintained, far less safe. Witnesses claim it was watching the street kids, though whether from concern, curiosity, or something else entirely is still unknown.
Descriptions vary slightly—as they always do in Gotham—but several details remain consistent.
Small. Humanoid. Dressed in dark clothing suited for blending into the night.
And most consistently of all…
Eyes.
Icy blue, reflective under streetlights, described by more than one witness as feeling less like being seen
and more like being noticed.
As if the figure had already been watching long before anyone realized it was there.
And then there’s the part that unsettles people most.
It doesn’t stay.
If you look away for even a moment—just a second—it’s gone.
No footsteps. No movement caught on camera. No clear direction of travel.
Nothing.
As if it was never there at all.

Shane: I’m getting definite cryptid vibes here.

Ryan: Yeah, no—I agree. That’s… that’s creepy. That’s very Gotham creepy.

Shane: This feels like one of those things where it’s like “oh yeah it helps kids” but also “don’t turn your back on it or it vanishes into the void.”

Ryan: That’s not comforting, Shane.

Shane: I didn’t say it was comforting. I said it was cool.

Ryan: This is why you die first in horror movies. You don’t run away when it makes sense to.

Narrator: Later in the year small items began appearing in areas frequently used by unhoused youth or street-connected children in Crime Alley.
Nothing valuable in the sense that it costed a lot. But useful things.
From blankets to jackets to food, and sometimes even money.
No witnesses ever reported seeing the items being left yet at least once a week they were there.
The kids reported feeling watched when they went to get the stuff that was left for them.

Shane: So a Santa like situation or something?

Ryan: What? Gotham Santa but it’s only for homeless kids?

Shane: That’s honestly not any better than our previous theory.

Ryan: Yeah no, I heard it when I said it— that’s terrifying.

Shane: Definitely

Narrator: What makes this phenomenon more complicated is that the Crime Alley Angel is not consistently described as acting the same way twice.
Some witnesses claim it simply watches from a distance.
Others say it intervenes.
One report from early 2013 describes a group confrontation near the rail yards. Three armed individuals reportedly approached a group of teenagers.
According to the account, the confrontation did not escalate.
Not because of negotiation.
Not because of interference that could be clearly identified.
But because, as one witness put it:
“It felt like someone else was already there. Even though there wasn’t.”
The individuals reportedly left without further incident.
But it is said that the next day on the Commissioner's desk there was a list of names, pictures and a list of crimes for each of those criminals. Not signed, written on a typewriter

Ryan: That— for me, is the part where it stops being ‘Fun kind cryptid giving stuff to people’ and start thinking about backing away.

Shane: Yeah, that’s not normal at all. If that were to happen to me I’d leave the city entirely. I heard Metropolis is a lot calmer this time of year.

Narrator: This, reportedly, kept happening over and over. Until in 2017, just after the disappearance of the second Robin and about a week before the appearance of the third, the Crime Alley Angel vanished.
Leaving behind nothing.
No sightings.
No patterns.
No continuation of behavior.
Just absence.
And one object.
A broken camera lens.

Shane: Wait a minute— Okay…

Ryan: Yeah?

Shane: That feels like a message

Ryan: That feels like a warning.

Shane: Or like… maybe something happened to them?

Ryan: Shane—

Shane: What? I’m just saying.

Ryan: You’re acting like you think someone murked it.

Shane: (Laughs) I mean, it could be— right?

Ryan: I mean, but also— Isn’t it suspicious that the Alley angel disappears and like a week later the 3rd Robin shows up?

Shane: …Oh.

Ryan: Yeah.

Shane: Oh that’s—

Ryan: Yeah.

Shane: You’re saying it changed forms.

Ryan: I’m saying Gotham has a habit of… recycling its myths.

Shane: That’s a terrifying way to phrase that.

Narrator: Notably, there are no recorded sightings of the Crime Alley Angel after late 2017, but the legend remains. Crime Alley’s very own Cryptid. The Crime Alley Angel.

Tim tore his eyes away from the article, not bothering to read any further, instead grabbing his phone and logging into Twitter, typing in his password with a fevor he hadn't known he posessed before.

Did anyone want to tell me I'm considered a Gotham cryptid or was I just supposed to find the Buzzfeed Unsolved article myself?
