Summary:

It had become quite clear on the server to not touch any of his troublemakers when he was around. Even though he made sure they all were fine, his kids still had struggles. Not with any other people but more with themselves and Minute will do anything he can to make sure they’re fine.

Chapter 1: Wemmbu

Chapter Text

A weird form of peace returned to the server. For a long time, the people of unstable were unsure what to do with the fall of the Law, a new group of people taking charge and many changes, caused uncertainty and brought uneasiness to the entire server.

After some time, people were finally able to adapt to the new era, and it brought some peace. Not peace in a normal way but a lot less violent than what the unstable smp was a couple of months ago. Something normal returned to the server.

Minute had rebuilt his end dimension, even bigger than it used to be. People went to the end more frequently, no longer fearing dying as much as they used to. Most came just to look around the endless dimension while a few brave ones left to explore the outlands of the end.

His job was still to make sure the people that entered his dimension were safe, explaining to them the danger this dark dimension brings and making sure the ones leaving for the outer lands were prepared and not under-geared.

The end base was split into different parts. An area was for storage, fields for food were somewhere else, so were the resting areas and med bay for players, and his personal quarters were somewhere completely else. Last point being a lot bigger than what it used to be.

It had always bothered him with his last base, that his personal bedroom was directly connected to the rest of the base, making it easy for anyone entering. This time it’s not connected. His personal area was on a floating handmade island next to the main one.

Constructing the floating extra island cost him a lot of time but the idea came from Planet, who was supported by the rest of his kids. Egg pointed out that during his stay in the end he never quite felt safe here, not because of Minute but rather since his personal room was accessible for anyone. Minute understood what he meant and agreed. He would be lying if he said it didn’t bother him as well.

Wemmbu also found it a stupid idea to leave his room directly connected to the rest of the base, especially if he plans to let other people use the end base. After discussing how to fix that issue, the idea of a floating island next to the main one was brought up.

With the help of Spoke, Mapicc, Egg and Wemmbu the island was built. It took some time to finish the interior, but in the end, he was glad he went through with this idea. All of his troublemakers made their own rooms, saying if they came to visit, they needed a place to stay, and Minute didn’t mind at all.

The common area was often used by them, joking around, playing board games or even fighting which Minute had to break off. A rule had to be invented, making it clear no fighting inside his home.

Most of the time they followed that rule, but not always. Especially if he left Wemmbu and Spoke alone. One was a trigger-happy mace user and the other one loves to rage bait. A couple of things were broken because of them.

Some of them visited more regularly while others would only show up every few moons. Egg was the one who he saw the most. The angel just loved his personal library and would spend hours reading books. Egg would also comes by if he needed some peace so he could write in his own book or he would be dropped off by Wemmbu, when the demon was going somewhere he considered too dangerous for Egg to tag along.

Planet visited him on a regular basis, often coming by to eat some cookies and bring some of his flowers. The alien never liked how dark the end dimension looked and decided that decorating it with colorful flowers makes it lovelier.

Minute never stopped Planet, since he thought they were a nice addition to the end. Most of his time was spent in the end dimension, only seeing the overworld rarely and the colorful flowers meant a lot to him. There was a way for him to connect to the place he used to live; the overworld.

Today was one of the rare occasions where he left the end to go to the overworld. It was for no specific reason other than him needing a change of scenery and some fresh air. Mapicc pointed out that him staying in the end the entire time wasn’t healthy. Even though he was a voidling, which originates from the end dimension, he still needed some sunlight, and a change of scenery doesn’t harm anyone.

So, his kids often forced him to take breaks from guarding the void dimension and dragged him to the overworld to do random, chaotic things. Eventually he started to take these breaks by himself, without any intervention from the others. He realized how good it felt breathing in the fresh air from the overworld and sitting in the sun and relax.

His plan for his exportation was to go to a snowy biome. For some reason those types of biomes always fascinated him. The cold doesn’t affect him as much as others, since he was born in the end dimension, which was naturally rather cold, but he could still feel the cold.

The sound beneath his feet while walking through the snow was satisfying. It had been a while since he last was on top a snowy mountain and today, he wanted to change that.

Minute had already left the end and was heading towards the snow biome Wemmbu told him about. Since it was far from spawn, it was mostly untouched. Any damage done to the biome had been covered by the snow.

Yet the journey was going to cost him some time. With his elytra it will take him roughly an hour until he gets there, but he knows it will be worth it. There hadn’t been any attacks on the end since the day he was saved by all five of his troublemakers, so he wasn’t worried something was going to happen to the end island during his absence.

He just landed on a mountain, couple of hundred blocks away from spawn, he heard a firework and someone landing behind him. Turning around he was met with a purple smile.

“Yo Minute, how are you?”

“Hello Wemmbu. Wasn’t expecting to see you today. I’m good, how are you?”

“I’m bored. Egg is too busy writing his lore book and I have nothing to do. Where are you headed?”

Minute chuckled, it was clear that Wemmbu wasn’t a fan of Egg’s lore book. The demon believed it was a waste of time, but never said it out loud in regards of his best friend.

“You know the snow biome you told me about. I’m heading there.”

Wemmbu nodded, clearly knowing what Minute was talking about. For a moment he was thinking about something, his tail swaying behind him.

 “Okay, let’s go.”

“You want to come with me?”

“Yeah, why not. It’s not like I have anything else to do.”

“Fine by me.”

With that they continued heading towards the snow biome. On the way over there, they exchanged some words or tried to over the wind. Wemmbu had settled down somewhere, building his own base after not having one for a long time. Egg also made his own, away from Wemmbu’s. Apparently, the angel did that for aura. Minute wasn’t sure what he meant by that but didn’t question it further.

Eventually they arrived at the bottom of the snow biome, where only a few places were covered in snow. The plan was to hike through the biome and end it on the big mountain, he barely could see. On top of the mountain, he would eat something before heading back to the end.

Minute explained his plan to Wemmbu, who just shrugged and started to walk into the biome. Not hearing any protest, Minute followed him.

The more they walked, the more snow it had, and it became cooler. Minute didn’t mind it, after all he had good cold resistance and the sun was shining. They lucked out with the weather for this exhibition, almost no wind and the sun was shining. It didn’t do much against the cold temperature, but it provided some warmth.

“Soo, you mentioned building a new base. How’s that going?”

“It’s done for me. Well, Egg likes to say otherwise, going on about to improve the interior. Will have to work on that I guess.”

Minute chuckled: “I hope your base is more than just for walls, a bed and some chests. It’s good to have a place to return to after an exhausting day or just stay somewhere safe for a while.”

“Yeah, yeah. It’s just weird. Before I was always on the move, running away and never built a base. I think the last time I build something to call my own was during Zam empire.”

Minute thought about it. He didn’t know Wemmbu during the time of Zam empire. They met later on during the mafia. Back then he had his suspicion that the demon didn’t really possess a base, but now it was confirmed.

“I get that. It feels weird settling down after so long of not being able to. I still would work on that interior. Trust me you will like your base a lot more, if it’s nice inside and comfortable than just something rushed and makeshift.”

Wemmbu nodded in understanding. He knew what both Egg and Minute meant by making it inside of his base nice, still remembering the cool interior of his house during his kingdom era.

They continued to talk, exchanging what they were up to and what future plans they had. He listened closely when Wemmbu told him about an adventure he and Egg went on. Nothing dangerous, just something fun for them to do.

Yet his attention was diverted to something else. During his conversation with Wemmbu he noticed the latter shiver a lot. His voice didn’t show it, but his body language gave him away. The demon tried to hide how cold he felt, snakingly hugging himself for more warmth or rubbing his hands together.

Minute was aware that not everyone had the same resistance to the cold as him, but he was also aware that due to the clear weather and sun, it was warmer than the biome would normally be.

“Are you alright Wemmbu?”

He stopped on his tracks, looking confused at Minute.

“Yeah, why shouldn’t I be?”

“You’re shivering, quiet a lot.”

“Well, we are walking in a snow biome.”

Minute analyzed Wemmbu, thinking about his past experience with other people when they were crossing a snow biome. The more he thought about it, the more it seemed like Wemmbu was affected more by the cold than an ordinary person.

“I’m aware, but could it be that the cold affects you stronger than it would a normal person.”

Wemmbu froze, unsure how to respond to that.

“Nah, it’s just cold.”

“Wemmbu.”

Both were locked in staring at each other, opting for the other one to give in. Unlucky for Wemmbu, Minute was rather stubborn when it came to his troublemakers and also knew him very well.

“Okay, fine. Maybe the cold affects me more than it would a normal person.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Because it’s just coldness. Not anything big, like it’s stupid.”

There was more to it, but Wemmbu clearly didn’t want to talk about it. Something in that statement was bothering Wemmbu, and Minute would like to know what.

He was aware that some demons can’t handle the cold. Nether demons are a great example. Growing up in a place with unnatural high temperatures leaves one weak to the colder ones.

Flame and Mapicc were nether demons and both of them had complained about the cold overworld winter to him before. They weren’t sure what type of demon was, since he doesn’t know it himself, but Minute doubted he was nether demon. For that he lacked the fire aspect but rather brings the chaotic nature from the end.

It was just a speculation, but he believed Wemmbu was an end demon. Yet his theory could be proven wrong if the shivering really came from being a demon. If Wemmbu was from the end he should not be affect by the cold this much. Every hybrid which originates from the end has a higher tolerance for it.

“Is it because of your demon side?”

“How did you come to that conclusion?”

“Well, I’m aware that some demons don’t like cold temperatures. Is it the same case for you?”

“Like, how do you know these random things.”

“I read a lot of books, hence why I’m so well informed.”

Wemmbu chose to stay silent, but Minute knew he was correct. Otherwise, the other would have reacted differently.

“Okay, let’s leave.”

“What why?”

“Because the cold harms you.”

“No, we finish this hike. I don’t care that I’m weak to the cold.”

With that Wemmbu stormed, heading deeper in the snow biome, leaving Minute confused behind. Not having any other choice, he followed Wemmbu.

Every time he tried bringing up leaving, Wemmbu would intentionally speed up, making it clear he didn’t want to leave. Minute decided to hold off for now, understanding that the demon needed some time to calm down and opted to walk beside him in silence.

When the shivering became worse, Minute decided to speak up again: “Why don’t you want to leave? I know you don’t like the cold, so why chose to stay longer?”

“Because it’s stupid.”

“What exactly is stupid?”

Wemmbu took a deep breath. He explained it was stupid for him to be affected this strongly by the cold, making it his weakness. Since he discovered this weakness, he hated it. He tried everything to build up resistance to it, but to no avail.

“The most powerful player on unstable crumbles to snow and the cold. Like, that is so dumb.”

“There is nothing dumb about it. Everyone has a weakness. I’m confident that every hybrid species has at least one downside to it. For example, take the voidlings. We don’t handle well to much light.”

“You mean the one, where you need to build an entire room full of glow stone for it to affect you? Yeah, definitely a better weakness then mine.”

“Trust me, there are more effects from being a voidling that aren’t positives. But you aren’t alone with that disadvantage. Take Flame as an example. He is affected by the cold just like you and he is still feared.”

Wemmbu rolled his eyes at the mention of Flame, but Minute knew he was considering his words. Even though Wemmbu acted like he didn’t like Flame, there was a part of him that was looking up to the other demon. The reason why Wemmbu left to get stronger was because of Flame and Wemmbu would be lying if he didn’t like fighting Flame.

“Flame accepted that weakness by the way. During the mafia I talked to him about it, and it became clear he wasn’t bothered by it. He said he just avoids the colder biomes.”

“Wait, really? Flame talked to you about his weakness?”

Minute nodded in confirmation.

“So, you are saying that if I don’t avoid these biomes, I’m better than Flame?”

“Are you also aware that that is completely unhealthy and forcing your body to handle something it wasn’t made for is dangerous and not recommended?”

Wemmbu huffed, clearly disliking the answer, knowing Minute was correct. It was irresponsible of him doing this.

They had stopped walking again. Minute let Wemmbu think about what he said, knowing he just needed to give the demon some time to come to sense.

“But like, if I have to go to a colder biome, I need to be prepared for it. This is a perfect way to prepare. Eventually I have to get used to the cold and my demon side could go suffer.”

“Wemmbu, you don’t need to do that. If the day ever comes for you to go into a colder biome, you wouldn’t have to do it alone. Egg will accompany you and I would also. If you really need you could wear some warm clothes. I’m sure Egg would be delighted to buy you some warm cozy sweaters.”

The other one didn’t respond, taken back by the statement.

“You are not alone. You don’t need to do everything by yourself. It’s okay to have a weakness and it’s even more okay to ask for help. There is no need for you to hate that weakness, because it’s part of you. No one will view you differently because of it. Trust me.”

Wemmbu stayed silent, his tail curling around himself. His arms went around his body, searching for warmth and comfort. Minute had the sudden urge to hug the younger but resisted, not wanting to cross any boundaries.

“Okay, let’s get out of here.”

With that Wemmbu equipped his elytra and flew away. Minute copied him, following out of the snow biome.

After a while they landed on a mountain far away from where they were before. Wemmbu was no longer shivering, recovered from the cold.

“Is it truly okay for me being weak like that? That my stupid hybrid side makes me vulnerable?”

“Yeah. It’s human to have a weakness. Showing vulnerability every now and then is not only alright but also healthy. So, if you ever have a moment of weakness, please don’t try to hide it. You can always come to me, and I know Egg will not mind either. Promise me that.”

“I-uhm, will do that. Thank you.”

Minute smiled. He was glad he was able to help Wemmbu process his weakness and show him how to cope with it. If you ask Minute the term weakness was wrong. It wasn’t a weakness; it was just something that was part of one. Everyone had a “weakness” of some sorts. There was absolutely no reason to feel ashamed because of it.

Minute was able to convince Wemmbu to come with him to the end, promising him to make some food for the both of them. There was nothing better after such a draining talk than to get comfortable on a couch and eat something nice and warm.
