Work Text:

The first time Sharpness had coughed up a whole flower, he had visited Tai almost immediately afterwards. Asking for the Admin instead of the regular Tai that prowled around the server.

"Maybe there's something wrong with my code," he had told Tai, "Maybe it got merged with Nezo's. He has flowers growing on him too, right?"

The coughing had started a little after Nezoshoki had joined the server, after all. And this wouldn't be the first time two players would have this very problem.

Dual coloured eyes of the Admin had stared at him, the concern floating in them suspiciously looked like it belonged to Tai himself rather than the Admin of the server.

"You... Coughed them up?" Admin had asked. Voice quiet with a sort of dread that Sharpness hadn't liked at all.

"Yeah?"

Sharp still remembers the way the Admin's shoulders had fallen, the horror on their face. He hadn't liked any of that one bit. Nezo's roses looked very different from the flower he had coughed up, but there has to be some correlation there, right?

They were purple trumpet flowers. Soft petals, colour so pleasing to the eye. In any other context, Sharpness would've liked the flower. He likes flowers. All of them. He had never thought he'd look at flowers, delicate and beautiful, and feel dread instead of peace.

He was going to die. That's what the Admin had told him. The very next day after he had presented them with the problem. There were flowers growing in his lungs and he was going to die.

Renowned swordmaster, notorious and feared across servers, and his end would be the flowers growing in his lungs. Sharpness hadn't known how to react.

The Admin had also told him that he was in love. What a fucking joke.

There were other, more pressing matters at hand. He was going to die.

The flowers will suffocate him and he will  choke to death one day. And he doesn't even know when.

But his days were numbered, regardless.

Tai stuck to him since that day.

The pity in his eyes were unbearable, but it mattered less when Sharp was going to die anyway.

Isn't it funny, he had died so so many times before this. But the idea of dying and staying dead was a terrifying thing. No matter how hard he thinks and tries to make sense of it, it never fully settles in his guts.

Dying and leaving everything behind, even thinking about it makes his feet cold.

Tai tries to make him figure out just who it might be. The one he's in love with it.

It's stupid, fickle. So unimportant that he doesn't hesitate twice before answering the obvious question. Not to Tai, he doesn't need to know that, but to himself.

Who else could it possible be if not that one rabbit. Who else would it be if not the man who's been after his blood since day one.

Even so, it doesn't matter to Sharpness. He isn't ever gonna act on these feelings anyway.

Until Tai says, "If he reciprocates, the flowers will recede."

There was a desperate sort of hope in his voice, paired with pleading eyes. Tai will miss him if he goes, Sharpness thinks.

When he goes.

He doesn't want to, he wants to live, is it so much to ask for?

But he knows one thing. Jude will not reciprocate.

Asking him, or worse confessing to him would be so utterly stupid that Sharpness scrapes that idea entirely. Even when Tai practically begs him to at least try. Jude will never reciprocate and giving him this information will only lead to more ridicule from the hybrid.

He was dying, sure, but even then he didn't want to give the trapper that kind of leverage on himself. He wouldn't, because he knows even in death, it would get under his fucking skin.

So he ignores it all, the feelings and the idea of ever confessing about them to Jude. The flowers are harder to ignore though.

Everyday he coughs his throat raw, and every night it hurts like hell. Laying down makes breathing harder. Everything just sucks.

But even living like this would be better than dying. He pushes through. Takes up fights, takes down his opponents, ignores Tai's desperate words and Twirps' concerned gaze.

He knows he owes Twirps an explanation. Maybe ones to Cow and Flankee as well. But he doesn't have the courage to break the news of his own eventual, inevitable death. The words will get stuck in his throat, he knows, they'll accompany the flowers that always seem to try to push past his larynx.

He never finds it in himself to blame Judelow for it. It feels wrong to do so. After all it isn't as if it was Jude's decision to put flowers in Sharpness' lungs. No, he couldn't blame Jude for the fact that Sharpness fell for him. How stupid would that be.

Contrary to what he had expected, he can't exactly blame himself for falling for Jude either. It would've been absurd not to. Once you get past the trapper's freakish, almost insane tendencies, he actually seems nice. Caring even.

Their alliance was short and far from perfect, but during that time, Jude had matched his energy and had proven himself to be compatible. To a degree that made Sharpness lose his mind at times. Their combat styles were so vastly different, their individual field of expertise nothing like each other's.

So, It was a wonder that their alliance was so successful. People were afraid of them even. It was scary, and Sharpness was very rarely scared of things.

It sucks that it had to end, though. Both of them were always hyper aware of the fact that all of it was supposed to be temporary. Though in the moment it had been easy to forget about all of that and just, enjoy each other's company.

their weirdly symbiotic relationship still lingers though, no matter how much they both want to try and deny it. Sharpness thinks that they'll never quite be out of sync. Even when they are on opposite sides. He never really understood how to feel about that.

-

He blows up Judelow's base.

The anger, hurt, frustration of never being able to get back at the trapper, the suffocating fact that he was going to die all because Jude would never, ever reciprocate- No, he shouldn't blame Jude for that. He knows he shouldn't. But deep down he can't help it.

All of his previous thoughts about not blaming Jude had completely flow out the window the moment Twirps handed him the wither skulls. Because fuck it, he has had enough. He has been suffering every single day while Jude frolics around the server, trapping Sharpness even in this state.

It's selfish as fuck. But the anger at the hybrid had piled up so high that Sharpness couldn't look beyond it. Momentarily, atleast.

"You fucking blew up my base!" Jude's voice cuts through the opening. Making even Parker flinch.

It's more emotions on Jude's face than Sharp has ever seen him express before. After all Jude loves to keep his emotions in check. It's one of his worst qualities, in Sharpness' opinion. So seeing the raw, unguarded hurt, the rage and the fucking unshed tears, it- it gets to Sharpness.

He had never expected a reaction this strong. Sure, this was meant to be an irreversible tear at their already rocky relationship, but he had never thought it would cut this deep. For Jude to pick up a sword and slash at Sharp with so much fury. Sharp had fucked up.

The guilt curls in his chest along side the roots and stems of fresh fucking flowers. Pressing against his ribs. He looses count fo how many beats his heart skips, and discovers that he hates the feeling of it.

Of his heart missing beats in a situation that was entirely non threatening. Jude can't beat him on Strength so easily. Especially not with a mind as clouded as what he has right now.

Nonetheless, it makes Sharp feel like he was dying, fighting is already hard enough when every breath scratches at your throat, but to also feel dizzy, and as if your chest was caving in? He was almost convinced that this was it. That he was dying here.

He doesn't die though. He lives to see another wretched day.

And lives long enough to find himself on quartz floors, in the vary same base he had blown up. Fixing the walls.

Guilt, and- and love, had a strange way of messing with people, he finds.

The petals swirling in his chest mess with him the entire time. He loses count of how many times he has to excuse himself out of the base and has to mute himself in the voice chat just to cough his chest out.

But at the end of each of those fits he wipes his mouth, burns the piles of flowers and petals and returns back to the base to finish the build.

Jude treats him the same as the others helping with the rebuilding process.

Sharpness doesn't think too hard about if that's a good thing or a bad thing. He did blow up Jude's base after all. He doesn't deserve even this much kindness from Jude, or Parker. So he'll take whatever he gets. Even if it's just indifference from Jude.

Until he names that fish, and Jude flashes him a genuine smile. The glee on his face, crinkled eyes and toothy grin, It steals the breath away from Sharp's lungs. Quite literally.

He doesn't sleep that night. After all, breathing isn't really easy when there's vines and petals obstructing everything. Laying down makes it ten times worse.

When the sun comes up, he's hunched over a hole in the dirt near the edge of the forest, too weak and tired to cough anymore. He tries his best to just breathe. Slow and shallow sometimes, other times he pants, anything to just get air in his lungs. To keep himself afloat.

—

During lazier days, he finds himself sitting on top of one of the decorative builds around the hub, just staring the the massive leader board of all the combat masters. He's no longer on it. It's fine though. Every pvper knows that ranks and titles are never set in stone.

It's always changing, meant to do so. People climb up, people fall off, some make come backs, some disappear forever. Sharpness is familiar with the rise and fall of ranks and titles. There's a certain thrill in the uncertainty of it all. He knows he can climb back up. He just has to practice a bit more.

Something that he currently couldn't do.

Turns out swinging around a broad sword doesn't only require muscles, it also requires a strong pair of lungs. His were defects now. Torn and bleeding, deforming everyday to make room for flowers that will one day kill him.

He will die, and he won't get to practice, he won't ever get to climb up the ladders. Won't ever sit at the top.

All because he couldn't look at the trap Infront of his nose and tell it apart from genuine human connection. Him and Jude were never anything more than teammates. The weird sort of chemistry was nothing more than just that. In fact they were less than friends. Worse than rivals.

Sometimes his treacherous mind wonders if he had long since fallen for some grand scheme planned by the trapper and all of this was pre-planned. Well crafted to trap him in this forever. For the rest of his life.

It's not true. Jude doesn't know anything about him dying. It's obvious when he looks at Sharp with genuine curiosity whenever Sharp tries to stifle a cough, it's in the way he asked Sharp if he had slept a wink in the past few weeks, trying to keep his voice as light and casual as possible.

It's in how Jude had handed him an enchanted golden apple after he had finished helping with the base reconstruction. The one that he still had in his Ender chest. One he deliberately put in the same stack as his other precious enchanted golden apples so that he couldn't tell them apart and grow attached to it stupidly.

——

Sleeping gets harder, bags under his eyes deepen, and Twirps grows more and more worried each day. Sharpness feels guilty about not telling him anything. Guilt seems to be one of his more common emotions nowadays.

Four days after rebuilding that base, Sharpness looses his voice coughing. There's flowers everywhere. In the villager trading hall, on the work stations, every fucking where. Petals scatter in the wind, and Sharp can barely sit up straight. He won't have enough time to clean them up before Twirps and Cow shows up, he knows.

He'll be caught, but the dread has been pushed so far back into his head he almost doesn't care. He coughs and coughs and coughs until his throat bleeds. This wasn't even the first time that has happened.

But it still hurts like a bitch though. Every single flower that blooms from his throat makes him want to throw everything up. His lungs rattle in his chest, head pounding with each cough. He feels like shit.

Sharpness blacks out for a bit, and when he comes to, he's no longer at the base, instead he has moved a few blocks away, near a small river.

Parker has found him.

He stares at the enderman, leaning against a rock, trying to breathe. He's lightheaded, and no matter how much he tries, he can't seem to remember how exactly he got here.

"Better?" Parker asks him, looking frightened almost. Sharp nods, he does feel better, it's easier to breath with his back against the boulder, at least.

"What the fuck happened, Sharpness?" Parker whispers, already pulling out his communicator.

Sharp stares at him, his eyes struggle to stay open as exhaustion settles in now that he can breath somewhat easy.

The other doesn't really wait for a response though, he takes a few steps back and whispers something to no one, it vaguely sounds like, "I need to leave for now." And Sharp realises he's talking to someone on the voice chat.

He could pretty easily guess who Parker could be talking to...

But before he could overthink, Parker speaks up again, once again not directed at Sharp, "Yo, get to the coordinates I sent you, Sharp doesn't seem like he's doing good."

Even through his bone deep exhaustion, panic grips his heart. Because who was Parker even calling?

Could it be Jude? What if he wasn't on call with Jude earlier but someone else entirely?what would Jude fucking think if he saw Sharpness like this? Weak and vulnerable, barely alive.

Would Jude feel anything at all? Wouldn't it be so much worse if he didn't? If he didn't care? What would-

"Sharpness, I don't know what's going on but you have to breathe, okay?" Hands are on his shoulders, Parker, crouching in front of Sharp like he was scared one wrong move would trigger the swordmaster, "I can tell it's hard to breathe but- whatever it is, I'm not gonna hurt you yeah? You don't have to panic."

And it's reassuring, Parker is a much better trapper to run into in this state than any other ones they have on this server. So Sharp nods, throat too raw for him to even try to talk in this state. And Parker seems to understand that too.

Parker fusses over him, checks his communicator a few times, Sharpness tunes him out. Eventually, the sense of security lulls him into a short and light sleep without him really realizing it. When he wakes up next, Parker is gone.

There's Twirps sitting on an ender chest placed on the grass  in front of him.

The Reptilian was hunched over, head hanging low. He looked so defeated in that moment, Sharp was almost about to ask if he was okay, if he had just lost a fight. Because he certainly looked like it.

Before remembering that he had lost his voice coughing long ago.

"Parker said you were hyperventilating in the forest by our base." Twirps speaks up, softly.

Sharp nods, hoping that the movement catches Twirps' eyes despite him not looking at Sharp.

It takes a while for Twirps to continue.

"There's something going on, Sharp, I know that there is. But I don't know what. And I don't want to coax you into telling me." Twirps sighs, and guilt settles in like a ball of ice in Sharp's guts. "I just, I'm worried. I don't know what's going on, but- you don't look okay."

Sharp only stares at the other, unable to look away. He has never seen Twirps look so small, so defeated.

"Just, tell me you'll be okay, once this is over," he finally looks up, big eyes pinning Sharp against the boulder with a pleading look. It pierces through his heart. Because he doesn't even have his voice. He's dying and he can't even tell Twirps that because he has stalled for so long and now he can't even talk without reopening the scratches in his throat.

Twirps stares at him, eyes growing larger by the seconds. The realization has dawned on him, no doubt. And Sharp hates that he can't even make excuses. Regardless, He brings out his communicator.

You whispered to Twirps: I'm sorry.

-—-

On one of the better days, when his lungs aren't overflowing with flowers and vines, Sharp decides to take up a duel against Flowtives. For once, his lungs don't impede him. It feels freeing, sure he's panting harder than he would normally after each round, but it's still bearable. He recovers quickly after each of them that he doesn't pay much attention to it at all.

Flow is an easy company. It helps that they have been friends since forever, chasing after each other on the Pvp leaderboard. And for once Sharp forgets about all of it, his impending doom, and the petals. It's easy to let himself be distracted, only paying attention to his own footing and Flow's stupid jabs and attempts at throwing Sharp off by making some flirty comment here and there.

Until everything crumbles, of course.

They're in the middle of trading blows when Sharp's chest violently, without warning, convulses. He barely has any time to think before the coughs attack him. And at the same time, Flow strikes, without even really meaning to catch Sharp with his guard down.

The sword had sliced through his chest cleanly. And the respawn happens so fast Sharp falls to his knees at spawn.

He didn't have any bed set anywhere. So there he was, armorless at spawn, dizzy spell making the whole world spin around him.

"-Died to flow?" And of course.

Sharp breathed out through his teeth, getting up from where he was kneeling even when his head screamed at him to just stay put. To catch his breath before even thinking about moving.

"Shut up." Is the last thing he said. Not even two steps forward and Sharp's knees were buckling up, vision going splotchy with black dots.

The last thing he hears is Judelow calling his name, before darkness claims him.

-—-—

He doesn't stay out for more than a few minutes. He knows that because when he feels consciousness return to him again, he's held in Judelow's arms, the hybrid trying his best to move Sharp inside the base and make him sit against the aquarium.

It seems like a hard task for the trapper, Sharp could feels those metal arms buzz against his ribs as Jude tried to shuffle him over the quartz stairs.

Flush creeps up his neck so fast, he has to mentally reprimand himself for it. Before he can even think properly, he's already grabbing Jude's forearm to shove them off of himself.

Jude stops, turning to looks at Sharp finally, "Oh okay... Uh, hey."

The trapper looks unprepared for this, completely out of his usual, cocky, annoying character.

"You passed out? Was Flow that good that he knocked you out even after getting a kill on you?" He tried to joke, still looking nervous.

Sharp leans back against the glass of the aquarium, breathing was becoming hard again.

He wouldn't have died in that duel if it weren't for the flowers, he thinks bitterly, and he wouldn't have passed out either. But he doesn't say any of that and only nods at  Jude.

That seems to confuse the rabbit more. The air between them awkward as the silence stretches on.

"Are you... okay? Parker told me," Jude pauses, and Sharp sighs. Because of course Parker told him, "He found you near Twirps' base.... Uh hyperventilating and all,"

"It's not related." Sharp interrupts him.

"Yeah, as if I don't have eyes and brain to make the dots connect." The sarcasm surprises Sharp. Jude almost sounds like he cares.

"You're imagining things." Sharp clears his throat when the itch to cough grows more and more.

Jude stares at him, almost apprehensive.

Until he suddenly asks, "Do you want water?"

A few moments pass before Sharp nods. Feeling an itch grow in his throat. He waits until Jude leaves, before doubling over coughing. Sharp tries his best to keep it down, hoping Jude wouldn't hear him from inside the base.

"Sharpy?" The calls comes from the staircase. Voice belonging to Flowtives.

The sudden interruption catches Sharp off guard, making him choke harder. There goes all his efforts to try and keep it down.

"Sharpness, baby boy?" Flow jumps down the rest of the stairs, hurrying over to his side, "Sharp, hey? You good?" There's a hand on his back, slowly patting him to try and ease the coughs.

"Oh, Flowtives?" Sharpness hears Jude's voice from inside the villager trading hall. Because of course. Sharp can never catch a break.

"Ah hey, I was looking for Sharp, and-" Flow turns back towards Sharp, worry written all over his face, "Found him here."

"I see." Jude hands Sharp the glass of water he was holding, and Sharp suddenly wants nothing to do with this situation anymore. He doesn't want either of them to know he's not well. Especially not in a scenario where they're both present at the same time.

Sharp takes a small sip of the water, feeling it push past the flowers and go down his chest, "Take me out of here." Is all he whispers to Flow, hoping Jude doesn't catch his words.

"Okay," Flow straightens up, one hand instantly wrapping around Sharpness' back to hold him up, "Can you stand?"

"Yeah, just- feeling a bit weak after the respawn."

Jude takes the glass of water from him as he stands, still almost entirely full. And for a second they make eye contact.

Sharpness finds then that there's something unreadable in Judelow's eyes. Questions, and apprehension, yes. But there was something more that Sharpness couldn't put his finger on. So he looks away, hoping Jude does that same instead of staring at his retreating back.

His heart thumps hard in his chest, at a speed he's pretty sure Flow can feel through his layers of clothes by the way he was holding up Sharp as they climbed up the stairs. The entire time Sharp could feel pin pricks on his neck that usually tell him when he's being watched.

"Feel better now?" Flow asks, setting Sharp down on the side of the fountain at Spawn.

"Yeah."

"Wanna tell me what's going on, now, baby boy?" Despite the playful nickname, Flow sounded serious. It wouldn't be long until he figures out something was horribly wrong, just like Twirps.

All Sharp can do is admire the grass near the fountain. The morning frost on it hasn't melted yet, after all Spawn tends to be way colder than other regions surrounding it. The footsteps on it are perfect, crisp outlines. One smaller and another slightly larger, deeper. Sharpness will miss their little alliance, however short it was.

-—-—-

"Anything? There has to be something right?" Tai almost pleaded, yet Mugm barely reacted other than sighing resignedly.

"It's not an easy thing to do, Tai. Don't act like you don't understand this." His voice was cold, but really, when was it not.

"Come on, Mugm, I've exhausted every option, but like- I know you could think of something more, and different, that might just work-"

Sharpness watched the two of them go back and forth. Sitting on a chest in one of the many rooms in the Shieldless Kingdom's castle. The more time he spent in that room the more he wanted to just get this over with and leave.

No one ever lived in these rooms. They were beautifully decorated, Noob spent a lot of time on this project, yet all the houses had a certain feel to it. Abandoned and never lived in. Sharpness didn't like them at all.

He liked Jude's base more, perhaps even more than Twirps' base. Because no matter what, Jude's little den was homey. It felt loved not just by the two trappers living there but by the entire server in a way. He may have blown in up a few times in quick succession, but still, he'd prefer to respawn and restock there than in any other base.

The almost tangible shift in the atmosphere of the room brought Sharpness back to the conversation that was happening. And he realised with a start that The Admin was in the room.

They were talking to themselves, and it took a bit for Sharpness to realise who was saying what.

"Don't go there." Cold, toneless. That was so definitely Mugm.

"What about this?" Louder, unmistakably Tai.

He stared at them, feeling his eyes droop. He hasn't slept at all the last few weeks, except the times he has passed in the middle of the day, exhausted to the bones even though he barely did anything on the server now. People didn't approach him for duels much, not even the trappers. He had his suspicions about Tai secretly telling them to not mess with him. But that was still just his speculations.

"Oh." The Admin whispered, their left eyes glowing faintly red, robes fluttering around them even when there was no wind blowing inside the closed room.

"No not that."

The flowers have been tamer now, in the sense that they no longer made his throat bleeds from coughing so hard. But they never stopped growing. Of course he still gets the occasional coughing fit, but it's not that frequent as it was before.

It's been harder to breathe though. Way harder. He almost always has to be leaning against something with his backbone straight as a rod otherwise his lungs just refuse to take in breaths. Part of the reason why sleeping has been harder. And he has had enough of this stupid fucking disease.

"Okay, Sharp." The Admin finally called for him, finally it seemed like they had found something.

"Yeah?" He asked, voice airy and barely above a whisper.

"There's a way to get rid of the flowers. We don't know if it'll be permanent or not but," a pause, "It will get rid of the flowers,"

"...but?" He asked, because it cam never be that easy.

The Admin sighed, "But, it'll have very, very bad side effects..."

Sharpness stared at the dual coloured eyes, wondering if he should even ask what the side effects are.

Eventually the Admin spoke up again on their own, "Okay, so, the flowers are very much intertwined with your memories, right-" They projected a little window, displaying codes that make little sense to Sharpness, "So, they are so absolutely entangled, if we try to remove the flowers, we would have to- basically delete all your memories." They blurted out, words hurried as if that would soften their blow.

Sharp thinks.

Who was he if not his memories. All of his skills and instincts are basically memories aren't they? He wasn't born as fighter, he had to fall and scrape his knees countless times before he learned to run. Before he could hold his own in fights. Getting to where he is now, has taken him years of practice.

Loosing his memories would be just as terrifying as dying.

"...How much...?" He asked, voice giving up half way. It's not even the emotions that made his voice weak. No, he hasn't been able to speak full sentences for a while now ever since he tore the skin of his throat open coughing.

"We are unsure." Quick and curt answer.

Sharpness felt defeat crawl up his neck.

"It probably won't be your, like, entire memory by the way. Well we're uh, pretty su-" they cut themself off, "No. We're not sure. The outcome of this is very much unpredictable. We could try, but we don't know if we'll be able to untangle the memories from the flowers successfully."

They spoke again, "We could try, though..." Hopeful, but defeated all the same.

Sharpness got up from where he was sat, head hanging in defeat, "Thanks, but," he cleared his throat.

"I dont- ...want to."

_

It gets worse from there. After a while, both the coughing and the breathing complications get worse. Sharp somehow manages to escape being held captive at Twirps' base. And is able to drag himself to Spawn.

He has been throwing up gardens worth of flowers every day. His throat hurt, his chest hurt even his head hurt from all the coughing and choking. Breathing was a chore, sleeping was impossible. He hasn't looked at himself in a mirror in so long. He hasn't cleaned his hair in even longer.

For the first time since this all started, Sharp felt as if passing would be better than enduring this any longer. But, Twirps wouldn't like that thought much, so he kept it to himself.

He can almost feel the flowers in his lungs now. Petals brushing against each other with each breath that shook his lungs. He could almost feel them physically press against the walls of his airway. His ribs weren't wide enough to hold all of them. Soon, they'll burst out and they'll be every where.

He doesn't have much time. Maybe a few more days at best.

Even a week more would be miraculous, Sharpness thinks. But he doesn't know if he wants to go through this any longer.

The few people who know, already look at him as if he's gone. He never found it in himself to tell them to not mourn him while he's still here. He's a coward like that. And selfish enough to still want them to treat him normally. As if he wasn't coughing up hundreds of petals each day.

The entrance to Jude's den has been modified a lot since the last time Sharp was here. From far away it almost looks like a gazebo.

Quartz was a stupid choice for the interior of the new base, but who is Sharp to think that. He doesn't live here, he won't ever get to, anyway.

He doesn't know why he's here. But then again, he isn't completely oblivious to his own actions and the intentions behind them. But he denies it to himself anyway. Pretends that he's just sightseeing.

Sharp takes one step down the stairs, and hopes Jude isn't home. He'll just look at the new fishes added into the aquarium, and maybe pet Happy a few times, and then he'll leave.

Maybe not before visiting the turtles once. Yeah, he'll visit the turtles too, and take a few pictures.

A few more steps, he climbs down the stairs, laboured breaths ringing louder in the little hall way leading to the base.

Sharpness doesn't know what he'll do if Jude is actually in there.

And if he was being honest, he was scared. Deep down he knows why he's here. And he's terrified that if he finds Jude inside the base, he'll have to go through with his actual intentions behind this visit. That he'll have to talk to Jude and reveal to the man how shit his voice has gotten after weeks of coughing and wheezing.

It just felt so wrong to leave without bidding his farewells to Judelow.

He reaches the bottom of the staircase, chest heavy. There was no one in the main compound of the base. But a steady sound of a hammer hitting an anvil reached Sharpness' ears from inside the base. Jude was here.

Parker was not on today, so unless it was another player- which was very unlikely, it has to be him.

Sharp breathes in as deeply as he can, before slowly making his way towards the aquarium. There wasn't many new fishes. Carti has passed away a long time ago,  and as it seems, Jude hasn't really put any effort into filling it's spot with any newer tropical fish.

Eventually, Sharp sits down with his back against the Aquarium, it makes him feel all funny inside. This is the exact spot he was sat that day, just barely a weak ago.

The hammer noises pause for a bit before they continue, rhythmic and constant almost. Sharp leans his head back, and listens to it.

He hopes Jude resurfaces faster. After all, Sharpness doesn't know how much time he has left to spend so much waiting.

Notes:

So erm, :3

It seemed like, to be a sharplow writer you gotta write atleast one hanahaki fic lmaolmao, so here's my attempt.

The reason why this focused more on Sharpness' feelings and his journey than the ship itself is because- Man, he's dying. I feel like whenever I read hanahaki fics I don't see much exploration on the fact that these people are actively Dying. It's scary when it's inevitable and fast approaching. Yes they have someone they love and all, but when faced with actual confirmed death it would pale a little in comparison I think. You don't really have much time to think about the love of your life when you might not even get to spend any time w them.

Paired with the fact that there's no guarantee that they'd want you back. It'll be all on you, you feel for them, you developed this disease. And you are dying. It's only human to respond to this situation messily. And fucking up more, slowly loosing it yadayada.

And, ahem, I also didn't see much of the medical aspect of it being explored. Like, if you have literal flowers in your chest life would not be very fun. And not just bc of the constant coughing. Idk man I like lungs diseases even tho I don't like studying lungs much. (
