“Keeps your hands to yourself, samurai!” Jay spat.
Nya had just rescued a ‘damsel’ which was obviously her dopey crush from a train, and now she held him in her arms, watching the train pass.
“I mean it!” He yelped as she shifted her grip to hold him tighter, indirectly moving her hands closer to his butt.
“Sorry,” she grunted, her voice coming out garbled and deep through the filter she’d installed for anonymity, “I don’t want to drop you.”
Jay let out a high pitched, insulted scoff, “Are you making a comment about my weight?”
“No, you’re legs are just very gangly, it’s hard for me to hold them.”
He huffed, sounding insulted, “You know, every girl seems to obsess over you, but I don’t understand, you’re so rude.”
“Geez, lady,” Nya grumbled, crossing the railroad (now that the train was gone), an heading toward her mech. “You’re not terribly polite either.”
“I’ve just had a terrible shock, I almost died,” he defended himself, “And now, some guy is trying to get all handsy with me.” A pause, “You don’t have to carry me, I can walk.”
“No, no, I insist.” Nya said, even if he was acting more argumentative than Nya was used to, she still wanted to be with him for as much time as possible. Besides, it was entertaining to talk to Jay when he had this much attitude. “I’ll help you get back to your house, then I’ll be on my way. Probably to rescue a more grateful person.”
“Oh yes,” he muttered quietly, in his normal voice, “Go rescue someone else and steal our glory, they’d much rather be rescued by a stupid samurai than a ninja, because everyone knows samurai’s are sooo much better.”
“What was that?”
“Nothing!”
“You can sit in the mech with me, if I held you, your dress might fly up.” Nya said, stopping in front of her Samurai X mech.
He instinctively pressed his bright pink dress down, flushing. As Nya shifted her grip again, this time to set him down, he shrieked, in a voice that was his own, but extremely high, “Watch it!”
“Sorry, sorry.” She muttered, letting go of him hurriedly, noticing he had his hand raised to smack her arm since her hand had been fully holding his ass. Nya stepped up into the mech and held her hand out for him to take.
Rolling his eyes, he accepted her outstretched hand and let her pull him close to her, very close, as the area they were situated in was really only meant for one person. He shifted his shoulders around, trying to get comfortable in the small space where there bodies were pressed together, grumbling a string of curses under his breath.
“You know,” Nya said as she turned the mech on, “Someone once told me that you should never swear, it’s a sign of weak verbal skills.”
Immediately, he snapped his head in her direction, notched eyebrow raised. Realizing it was probably a mistake to say something so obvious, Nya kept her gaze focused on the buttons as she readied the rockets to fly. She knew it was silly, as he wouldn’t he able to read her expression because of the mask, but she still didn’t want to risk it.
“How do you…”
“So,” She said loudly, “Where do you want me to drop you off?”
“Jamanakai Village, I guess.”
“I guess?” She repeated, “Is that not where you live?”
“Quit being nosy.” He gave her annoyed look, then seem to realize he had to stare downwards, and commented disdainfully, “You’re pretty short, you know that?”
“You’re just gangly.”
“No,” He said, taking on a reasonable tone, “You’re short.” Crossing his arms, he stuck his nose up in the air, “And it’s not polite to say that to a girl. I bet you’d be real unpopular with the ladies without your stupid mech. You probably have no idea how to talk to them.”
Nya bit back a laugh, “Sure, Spark-“ she cut herself off, she’d almost called him Sparky, which would’ve been a dead giveaway as to who she was, “Lady, you can think that.”
Once again, he gave her a suspicious look, inspecting her closely, “What did you jut call me?”
“Lady,” Nya replied, trying to make her voice sound as un Nya-like as possible.
“No, it’s was something else, why are you lying to me?” He poked at the sharp jaws of her mask, “What-“
“Don’t touch that!” Nya yelped, smacking his hand away from her, when he’d poked the mask, she’d felt it slip ever so slightly off of her face. Quickly, she readjusted it, making sure it was fully covering her face. Oh, look, we’re here!” She lowered the mech onto a snowy hill just outside of the village, sighing inwardly.
“Ugh finally, I can be rid of you.” Jay said.
“How about a ‘thank you’?”
“Hmph!” Jay crossed his arms, “Like you’ve earned it.”
“Whatever, I didn’t want it anyways, you’re much too rude.” Nya retorted, opening the mech up and pushing him out. “Try not to get stuck on a railroad again.”
As she flew back up into the sky, she looked to see Jay waking in circles in the snow quickly, throwing his hands up the air, complaining loudly about how stupid she (the samurai) was. That had been way to close for comfort, it would’ve been extremely embarrassing for both Nya and Jay if he’d discovered her identity right then.
It was right after their failed first date, as they were heading home, that Jay finally remembered his and Nya’s encounter when he’d pretended to be a girl.
As they were walking back to the Bounty, Jay suddenly stiffened, stopping dead in his tracks, his face rapidly turning a bright shade of red.
“What’s wrong?” Nya asked, noticing him stop.
“It’s nothing.” He squeaked, covering his face with his hands and letting his shoulders droop.
“What is it?” Nya pressed, “Are you okay?”
He sighed, peeking out at her through his fingers. With his voice muffled by his hands, he asked, “Do you remember when there was girl on the railroad that you had to rescue. The one that you told me was really rude.”
“Yes,” Nya tried to stamp down her grin, “What about her?”
“Nothing!” He yelped, snapping hsi fingers back together to cover his eye.
“Jay,” She glanced at the other ninja, who had noticed that Jay and Nya had stopped and were now staring expectantly back at them, then whispered into Jay’s ear, “I know that that was you.”
He let out a defeated moan, “You do?”
“Of course,” Nya said, “Getting Kai to steal my makeup so you could wear mascara, blush and lipstick, putting on a dress, and a blonde wig doesn’t do much to hide your identity. Especially to a girl.”
He made another quiet moan, “Why would you ever even consider wanting me to be your boyfriend after you saw that?” He hesitated, then, “and heard that.”
Nya coughed into her fist quickly, trying to disguise her laugh, hearing Jay’s very, very loud and enunciated moaning had certainly surprised her on that day, but it hadn’t changed her feelings (if anything, it had made him more enticing to her). “We all do stupid things, besides, you were the closest to figuring out it was me before Kai, so, it was a smart idea.”
He sighed, “I guess.” They started walking towards the other ninja, when Jay whispered quietly in her ear, “Did you grab my ass on purpose?”
Now it was Nya’s turn to be embarrassed, “Maybe.”
He gave her a quick grin, and joked, “Maybe I’ll have to do that more often then.”
“Well, long hair does suit you.
“What do you want now, lady?”
“I was just wondering if I could try to calm your hair down,” Nya asked as she sat down beside him on the couch, “It’s awfully messy.”
He scoffed, “No, why would I ever let you do that?”
“Because you like listening to me,” Nya noticed Jay stiffen, “I know you can’t resist me.”
“No.”
“Come on,” she leaned closer to him, blinking slowly, “Please.”
His eyes flicked over to hers, meeting her own greyish blues, small patches of red bloomed on his cheeksa an he muttered, “Fine.”
“Pause the game first.” Nya said.
“Ugh, do I have to? I’m almost finished with this level.” He whined.
“First Master, you’re such a man child.” Nya set a hand on top of the controller he was holding, “It’s either the game or me.”
Grumbling, he paused the video game playing on the tv and set the controller on the table where his leg was resting. “I’m only doing this because my wrists are getting sore, got it?”
Nya rolled eyes, crossing her legs and patting her thigh, “Whatever, put you head here.”
“I’m not putting my head on your legs!” He yelped, flushing deeply.
“You don’t have a choice, now do it.” We both know you like to be obedient.
“If you tell anyone else about this, I will leave in the middle of the night and never come back.” He said as he set his head down on her thighs, shifting his legs onto the couch.
“I won’t,” Nya reassured him, “And if I did, I know you still wouldn’t leave.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You know what I mean.” She replied. As she pulled out his ponytail, the curls poured out into her lap, gently tickling her skin. First Master, Nya needed to see what he looked like with his hair down when he was standing up, it must be beautiful. She started pulling the small knots out of the ends of the hair, being very careful not to yank his curls.
Predictably though, he started complaining, “Can’t you go gentler? It feels like you’re pulling my hair out.”
“Maybe if you’d brush your it every so often, it wouldn’t hurt.” Countered Nya, “Now stop whining.”
“Don’t tell me…” He trailed off as she started gently massaging his scalp. Nya felt him shiver and his shoulders loosened. He sunk further into her lap, letting his head rest fully on her thighs, much more relaxed than he’d been a second ago.
As Nya continued to switch between running her fingers through his hair and massaging his head, he gradually melted more an more into her touch, and (surprisingly) remaining quiet. By the time she had nearly finished raking out all the tangles, his lids were half closed as he stared into her eyes.
Ever so quietly, he asked, “Why are you doing this for me?”
“Because long hair suits you.” She leaned closer to him, pressing a quick kiss to his forehead as his eyes fluttered closed, “And because I love you.”
