Work Text:

“Ugh. James would love that outfit.” Said Sirius. He normally worshiped the ground that his best friend walked on, but when it came to fashion sense, James definitely enjoyed torturing the beautiful boy by wearing far too much denim.

Remus laughed, and continued walking down the aisle of the London charity shop, searching for anything he thought was cool enough. A few moments later, Sirius called for him.

“Oi! Moony!” He shouted, “Look at these bracelets!”

He walked over and shoved the two bracelets into his boyfriend’s hand. They were thin, silver chains with a black star charm hanging in the middle of one and a white star in the other. They reminded him of Sirius, the dog star. Technically Remus was named after a constellation too, but Sirius’ name influenced him more, and he had star tattoos running all up and down his pale arms. Remus just had scars.

“Aww, Pads.” He said in a sweet tone. “They’re great. How much?”

“Cheap, just six pounds each.” Said Sirius, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet, clearly excited.

“Perfect.” He said, walking to the cash register.

Five minutes later, they were walking out of the store, their new matching bracelets firmly on their wrists.

They were having a great day in muggle London so far. They’d been to a nice breakfast place, a vinyl store, a corner shop (for cigs), and a few charity shops. Next they were headed to a boutique, but Remus could feel the effects of the day catching up to him, a headache forming behind his eyes. He decided not to say anything, since Sirius was having so much fun.

At the boutique they window shopped for a bit, before realizing they were getting hungry. Well, Sirius was getting hungry. Remus was just getting more nauseous by the minute, but he didn’t say anything, not wanting to ruin Sirius’ day by having to worry about the taller boy.

“So Rem, where to go?” He asked playfully, “You know muggle London better than me.”

Remus just wanted to sit down, maybe get a sip of water, and he decided to go to a quick diner near the boutique called Old Dairy.

They started walking and it felt like it took hours, even though it most likely only took a few minutes. He was sure he looked horrible, sweating and limping, but he didn’t have the energy to care. His head was throbbing by this point, his stomach was twisting and turning, his bones aching. He felt horrible. He didn’t know why either, the moon wasn't soon and he was completely fine earlier. Sirius seemed to have noticed something was wrong.

“Moony, are you okay? You look like you need to sit down for a minute.”

“I’m- I’m fine.” He huffed.
“No, you're not.” Sirius noticed, “C’mon, let’s sit down on that bench over there.” He slowly guided Remus onto a nearby park bench. “Now can you tell me what’s wrong?”

“I just… I dunno. I should be fine, I’m fine. There’s no reason for me to not be fine.” He said this last part more to himself than to Sirius.

“It’s okay for you not to know why, can you just tell me what hurts?” Merlin, he was good at this. He was good at everything. Remus loved him so much, he felt like crying.

“Um. My-my head hurts, an-and I’m nauseous, and my joints, and just um, everything.” He gave up on hiding it, it was no use. “Everything hurts.”

“Oh Remus, why didn’t you say something earlier?”

“I didn’t want to be a burden.” He dropped his head, the sun was far too bright.

“Honey, you’ll never be a burden. Now let’s go home, okay?” Remus nodded slightly, and Sirius apparated them both back to their new flat. Remus stumbled slightly, then went into their small bathroom and promptly threw up. Sirius followed a minute or so later with a cold washcloth and handed it to Remus to put over his eyes. It made the pain a little more bearable, and he could answer his boyfriend’s questions now.

“Do you have any idea what caused it?” He asked, "You seemed fine earlier, it was really sudden.”

“I’m not sure. It might’ve started in the charity shop? But it wasn't bad until the boutique.” He responded slowly. “And I have no clue what it was.”

“Okay, well, take a shower and see if that makes you feel better, okay?”

“Okay.” He said, already taking off his socks, shoes, and jewelry. Sirius stepped out into the living room, giving him privacy.

The shower made him feel a lot better, and when he stepped out and dressed in pajamas, he again wondered what had caused his pain earlier. That’s when he saw it, the bracelet. Of course. It made all of his symptoms make sense, and he almost felt relieved that they now had answers. Except for the fact that now he had to tell Sirius.

Remus walked out of their shared bathroom and sat on the couch next to Sirius.

“Thanks.” He said awkwardly, “The shower was a good idea.” He was embarrassed, but decided to just get over with it. “I think I found out what the cause of all that was.”

“Great! What was it?” Sirius inquired.

“I'm pretty sure the bracelets were silver. And well y’know with the, er, werewolf thing and all.” He really hated talking about it, and brought it up as little as possible.

“Oh shit moony, I should’ve known.” He sounded crestfallen.

“No. Don’t blame yourself! I’m the bloody werewolf and I didn’t realize, so you don't have to either.” Said Remus authoritatively.

Sirius looked comforted enough for now, so Remus took that as an opportunity to check in with himself. His headache was dissipating, his joint pain gone, as for the nausea, well, the opposite. He was starving hungry.

“Now c’mon, let’s get some food. I’m starved.” And because it was Sirius, his forehead smoothed out and he relaxed, taking the taller boy’s hand.

“Let’s.”

Notes:

Being honest, a shower has never helped someone chronically ill, but I needed an excuse for him to take the bracelet off. Also Old Dairy is a diner from 1970s London, near a boutique called Lord John I think. Thanks for reading!!! Comments and kudos are always appreciated!
