They were already close, but the other man edged closer to Sirius, whose heart was going a bit too fast again. The man’s eyes closed for a long blink and Sirius couldn’t help but wonder just how much of the blue punch he had. “Ummm? I asked if you were okay? Do you know where your friend is?”
He still got no response, but the man had opened his eyes and was staring really hard at Sirius’ mouth. Which was suddenly quite dry. When Sirius was considering if he should find his friend himself, then man closed the distance, threw his arms around him, squeezing him tight. Sirius stiffened but then relaxed into the hold. Years ago, he would be panicking but once he and Regulus left and moved into the Potters’ house, they got more used to being hugged by people other than James. Sirius inhaled and closed his eyes. The man, who still had his arms around him, smelled good. Really good. Sirius briefly considered going to find the shirt he’d thrown off the balcony earlier and sleeping with it until the scent faded.

They'd been sixteen when Remus left. Sirius' seventeenth birthday had been four days later, but they didn't have a party. None of them could bring themselves to celebrate without Remus. At the time, they'd expected him back within the school year. But he never did come back, and they all graduated Hogwarts a year later without him. They moved into a flat together- James, Lily, Mary, and Sirius. They all began working in the Order of the Phoenix without him. Harry was born without Uncle Moony there. Peter got a stellar job in the Ministry without Remus there to congratulate him. Marlene and Dorcas got married without Remus there to give the best man speech. They went on missions and had after-hours butterbeers and Sirius took Harry out for godfather playdates and James and Lily got married and Sirius woke up feeling like he was choking and Remus was never there.Bookmarked by Goldstripe
