What if she’d turned around instead—cut across the Badlands with Panam, thrown her lot in with a dust-choked road, a rattling convoy, and a shot of hard liquor? Would it have been different?
What if she’d let Johnny stay, handed the body over to him, and walked into that light herself? Would it have been different?
