Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Megan is a prodigy, always were. Her parents never let her forget that.

“You need to do better.”

“That’s not enough.”

Their voices were stuck in her head now, couldn’t help it, that was all she heard her whole life. She killed her first vampire when she was 5 years old, she still remembers the taste of the blood at her lips, and how good that felt.

Since then, she went on quite a lot of missions, never without her parents, but now, at 18 years old, she’s going to her great mission (as her parents called). At Hybe University, it was not a simple one.

Somehow, her parents and the people they worked with knew that the vampires had a plan of attack at Hybe, but they didn’t know when that would happen. Megan needs to find that out.

At the same time,

Yoonchae fights the urge of human blood, the first in her line to do that.

“I still believe it would be better if you just be normal”

The Jeung aren’t very peaceful, but that was some of the things Yoonchae realized about herself young. She wasn’t violent, she couldn’t be. But she tried, for the most of her life. That doesn’t mean the hunger wasn’t there, which helped her with the violence her family demanded, but she always preferred controlling it over letting herself be carried away.

Pleasing her family on what they wanted from her was priority number one until she knew Hybe, an utopian place where she didn’t needed to be violent to be respected as a form of life, a place where she could actually make friends.

Hybe was huge. Different people, from different countries and different cultures, all mixed, all in a need to coexist in the same place with mutual respect. Yoonchae loved that, Megan hated it.

The room was not small, but also not huge, a corner desk where two people had their own space, a bunk bed next to it, a window with a view for the campus, and the door that leads to the bathroom. Yoonchae was there first, she didn’t even look at the list of names of the dorm to see who was her roommate, she was too excited.

“Hi.” She was so distracted by the view, she only heard a voice coming from the door opened, “I’m Manon. You must be Yoonchae, right?” She didn’t know if it was morally right, but since she laid her eyes on the girl, she was trying to figure out whether she was a vampire or not.

“Yes. Yoonchae. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Yoonchae offers her hand for a firm shake, but Manon doesn’t even notice and hugs her. Human.

“You’re a vampire right? Oh my God.” The blonde couldn’t read if the girl was excited or scared about that fact.

“Yes, I am.”

“That’s so cool!” The girl hugs her again with an energy Yoonchae was not matching, but she couldn’t care less, kept talking and asking questions that Yoonchae didn’t know how to not respond. But that didn’t bother the pale one. The fact that she didn’t even smell her blood was more concerning, was she fooling herself or was she really changing?

A few rooms across that one, Daniela was scared for her life.

“Why are you staring at me like that?”

“Nothing.”

The two of them had just arrived at their room, to the place that they were supposed to spend the next five years together, but right now, all Daniela wanted to do was run.

“I am not a vampire, I do not think Hybe’s crazy enough to put a Skiendiel together in a room with a vampire.” Megan kept staring at Daniela, like she was about to attack the girl. “You’re their little project, the proof that humans and vampires can coexist, but I’m doubting their thoughts about you.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Her eyes were dark, she got too defensive too fast, and Daniela got more scared. “I’m not here to hunt anything, I just don’t trust them. Neither should you.” She finally realized Daniela wasn’t a threat, letting her guard down.

“You can’t even refer to them as people, you just called them a ‘thing’.”

“Cause they’re not people, that’s simple.”

The both of them laid on their bed, tired of all the recent moving, Daniela’s parents had helped her with some things, but Megan did it all alone. The silence hovered between them, the tension wasn’t there anymore, Megan could breathe better, so could Daniela.
