Princess Debut

Summary:

“So you’re saying...” Uraraka tilted her head slightly. “You want to switch lives?”

“Yes, exactly so.”

“But... why? You’re a princess, I’m just an ordinary girl, why would you want to take my place?”

Graveness creeped onto the princess’s features, and she grew solemn. “A number of things, really...”

or

When Uraraka goes back to her dorm, the last thing she's expecting is for a magical princess to pop out her closet. But when this same princess asks to switch lives, can she really get herself to refuse?

(This fanfiction was directly inspired and based on the game Princess Debut, an Otome Rythm DS game made by Natsume Inc. Having played the game isn't necessary to the understanding of the fanfic, or the references.)

Notes:

Recently, out of boredom and curiosity, I searched for dating simulators on the DS, and stumbled opon a game called Princess Debut. I ended up playing it, spending more hours than I thought I would on it, and ended up quite enjoying it. For as much as it had fun characters and a fun premise, I have to admit the relationships were rather shallow, and the gameplay got more than a bit dull by the end of it.

Nonetheless, I've grown quite fond of it, and when on another occasion I'd thought of writing a royalty au fic on ao3, I thought, "What if I based it on this unknown game nobody's played, and made it about my hero academia?"

And so, that was essentially how this fic came to be. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it, and I hope you enjoy this first chapter!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

U.A academy was a prestigious academy, where students across Japan and the whole world enrolled to ensure a successful career in the heroic line of work. Whether it be the hero course, support, management, or even general studies, an education in U.A meant nothing but a bright future ahead for all the students.

By all means, there were quite a bit of students in each course, let alone each year, and even more so in the entire school. In the whole of the school, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that class 1-A stood out the most, not only for having endured many difficult trials and battles, but also for the nature of its students. There was a great variety of students in this class, possessing different personalities and quirks, all competent and powerful in their own way (for the most part).

But of all these students, there is only one we shall make the introduction of for the beginning of this story, as only the heroine is to be introduced before anybody else.

This individual is none other than the student we know of as Ochako Uraraka, one of twenty pupils of her class. A lively young girl she was, cheerful in disposition, earnest in sentiment, rather straightforward in thinking but not as to make her dull or lacking wit. High in spirit but low in intensity, with a heart full of heroic conviction, but lacking in selfishness for herself.

Her person was of a unique sort, it’s only difficulty in pinpointing what is it that makes it so particular. She had a curious effect over others, seemingly simple from above but complex from underneath, and surely you will understand how through the reading of this tale.

But for now, our heroine is in her classroom, where she should be listening to her teacher, but is instead on the verge of dozing off. Despite her best efforts at staying awake, one can only do so much after too much physical effort and definitely not enough hours of sleep.

Her teacher, Shota Aizawa, was explaining hero laws, which was the lesson in which students ended up spacing out or dozing off most often, save for the more motivated ones.

When he was done with his lesson, Aizawa spoke up languidly, going back to his seat in his desk

“I hope you took notes on what I said, you will be having a written test on this soon. Class is dismissed, you can leave now.”

Uraraka gave a start upon hearing the bell ring, realizing class had ended already. Realizing the others were already starting to leave, she hurried in putting her things in her bag, practically shoving them down and harshly forcing the zipper close. Just as she crossed the door to leave the classroom, she gave a start again, as she felt a hand slap her back.

“Yo, Uraraka! How you doing, girl? Saw you dozing off there back in class, did you not sleep last night or something?”

It was Mina Ashido, another student from class 1-A. Lively in temperament, joyful in spirit, perhaps one of the boldest and most outgoing people Uraraka knew. Despite her brashness, Uraraka considered her to be a good friend, one she could confide in and trust.

“Ah, yeah... I stayed up studying, we’ve got that test on modern history in a few days, I can’t flunk that again.” She said, rememorating the history test she’d failed not so long ago.

“Wait, you actually study before tests?”

“You don’t?” Uraraka stared at her, incredulously.

She laughed merrily. “Of course not, who do you think I am? We’re only in our freshman year, I’m not getting burned out that early!”

It was a direct answer, to say the least...

Ochako sighed. “You’re right about that at least, studying all the time is really tiring, not to mention the physical stuff...”

She huffed again.

“I get that this is necessary, but Man, I’m tired. I know it sounds silly, but can’t we just get whisked off to some fairytale land or something? We don’t have any time for anything else, like going out or relationships.”

Mina suddenly stopped walking and let out a cry. “Hah! I knew it! You like someone, you really do!”

It took a moment for Uraraka to realize the implication in what she’d just said. Perhaps her cognitive functions had been dulled due to her lack of sleep, but it didn’t take her more than a moment to catch up. When she did, she practically felt her cheeks grow red.

“Hey, I didn’t mean it like that, I really didn’t! I meant my friends, not...”

“Whatever you say, I’m only picking on you anyway. Still, it’s true you don’t have much game. You never had a boyfriend before, right?”

“Sure, whatever...” She muttered dismissively, scratching the back of her head.

“It’s a shame, though. I could see you being with some guys in our class. I feel like most guys like you, I’d even think they wouldn’t mind being with you.” She giggled, and Ochako shoved her lightly.

“Now you’re just flattering me, you've got it all wrong!”

“Come on, you can’t deny it! At this point, it’s only a question of who you’d go for.”

She stopped, startling Uraraka a little. She repeated the inquiry, her expression shifting from playfulness to genuine questioning. “That’s a good question, who would you go for?”

"You’re just wasting your time, Mina...” She muttered, knowing how stubborn she could get.

It wasn’t like she had the time for a crush, let alone a relationship. She didn’t have the time for petty feelings as such, and she surely couldn’t let them get in the way. Even if she wanted to, surely she couldn’t actually get with someone in her class. They got along well, but it didn’t extend to anything more than friendship, right?

“I don’t think so, and I’m really not joking.” She said, in a more serious manner this time. “I don’t know if it’s still the case now, but I’m pretty sure Kaminari had a thing for you in the beginning of the year.”

Uraraka’s first instinct would’ve been to deny, deny and deny, but the more serious look on Mina’s face sparked her curiosity.

“Wait, him? What makes you think that?”

“Oh, a lot of things, trust me. Like how he’d keep staring at you with that stupid look on his face, and whenever he’d talk to you he’d try making himself look cool, but it just made him look pathetic. Ugh, I hate when guys do that.” She scrunched up her face in disgust, but her words left Ochako wondering.

“I’m pretty sure he even managed to ask you out, but then you basically rejected him and immediately went running to Izuku. He kept trying to pretend like he didn’t care and that he didn’t even like you that much, but he kept mentioning you a whole lot for someone who really doesn’t care.”

Ochako furrowed her brows, guilt creeping onto her. “Really? I didn’t realize, I didn’t mean to...”

“Hey don’t feel bad about it. You've already got your heart set on somebody, it‘s perfectly natural. It’s obvious you like Izuku.”

Immediately, Ochako felt as though somebody had punched her right to the stomach. The air was knocked clear out of her lungs, and instead of red, she was now white in the face.

“W-what? What do you mean, what makes you think that?” She stammered, doing her worst as she put her best efforts in concealing her panic.

She grinned, looking all too smug. “It’s so obvious, before we got dorms you’d walk together from school all the time, and he was always blushing around you in the beginning of the year. He’s nice, although a bit bland and lacking confidence, he’s still nice.”

She remembered that, from the beginning of the year? “Wow Mina, you sure do notice stuff...” Uraraka laughed, the nervosity apparent in her voice.

She’d get all too panicky whenever somebody mentioned her and Izuku, and it was a feeling that didn't sit well in her stomach.

Mina laughed, the pride visibly growing in her demeanor. She winked at Uraraka. “It’s my secret. I might not be bright in school work, but I’m good in other things.”

“Sure, if you think so.” Ochako muttered, and now it was Mina’s turn to shove her. “If that’s all you have to say...”

She wagged her finger, grinning even wider than before. “Not so fast, Uraraka. Or should I say... pink cheeks?”

“Pink cheeks? Wait, Bakugo calls me that! Are you saying-”

Mina laughed again, and Uraraka found that she was all too giggly for somebody who was already inherently giggly.

“But he’s super aggressive, and he’s always yelling! you think it’s cute that I date someone like that? You’d let me date him and not Kaminari, how does that work?”

“Whatever, if you don’t like any of them, you can always try your luck with Todoroki.”

What is this girl on? “...Todoroki?”

“He’s so mysterious and closed off, I’d think you'd be perfect to open up his heart to feeling and sentimentality.” She said, making grand, dramatic gestures and exaggerating her speech.

Ochako resisted the urge to scrunch up her face from cringe, though rather badly, as her expression contorted in a strange way.

She laughed nervously once more, catching Mina in her arms as the girl pretended to fall in a mock ‘damsel-in-distress' manner.

“No offense, Mina, but I think you’re a little delusional.”

She sighed, seemingly finally admitting defeat. “Well, call me delusional all you want, but at least I’ll have tried. Check it out, we’re here already!”

They’d been so distracted with their conversation, they hadn’t noticed that they’d arrived at their dorms already. At least Mina didn’t, it was all Uraraka was waiting for.

“I’m guessing you’re just gonna’ doze off now, aren’t you?” Mina didn’t need to have her question answered. By the looks of Uraraka’s face, the answer was apparent. “Well, I’ll see you tomorrow! And think about what I said, Alright? Bye!”

Ochako gave her friend a feeble wave for goodbye, contrary to Mina, who was beaming brighter than ever while waving with both hands. When she reached her dorm room, she hurriedly searched her backpack for her I.D card, noticing it to be more open than she’d left it. Which was strange, because she was sure she’d zipped it up enough for it to not open by accident.

No books seemed to be missing though, hopefully nothing else had fallen off. She couldn’t be bothered to pay any mind to this, as all she felt was relief when she entered her room and collapsed onto her bed.

She lied there for a few more moments, terribly tempted to close her eyes and doze off right then and there. She knew, however, that sleeping with her uniform on wasn’t very proper, and she was at least to change before going to sleep.

“Man... I’m beat.”

She stood up, drowsily rubbing her eyes as she did her best to concentrate on her task. What was it she had to do again? Right, of course.

“Traaannnnssssfforrmmm!”

It took her quite a few seconds to realize what she’d done.

She felt her cheeks heat up from embarrassment, despite there being nobody with her. Did she just yell ‘transform’? Now she just looked like a fool, she couldn’t transform!

When she finally got a proper hold of herself, she walked towards her wardrobe. Just as she was about to touch the handle, a strange rattling sound came from within, as though something was shaking inside. She took a step back. Could it be a rat? No, she’d left her closet close, where could it have come from? And surely, rats didn’t make such a loud noise, she knew that firsthand.

The rattling progressively got louder, so much so that when she touched the handle, she could feel the closet vibrating under her fingertips. Unless she were dreaming, it even seemed that the doors were about to burst open, even the ground felt to be shaking her her feet.

She braced herself, took a deep breath, and steeled herself as she took hold of the handle.

Before she could even pull the closet open, the doors burst open on their own accord, and Uraraka was violently toppled down from the force of the blow. She held her arms as to shield her face, doing the best she could to see what was it that came out of it.

From the most she could see and feel, a sort of wind was being blown onto her, and from within the closet, a strange light emitted from it. It was light, undeniably so, but somehow, it also looked to be a void, one Uraraka wasn’t sure she’d dare step into once the wind stopped blasting. If it did stop, that is.

However, it seemed somebody else was willing to do so.

Once the closet ceased with its commotion, Uraraka only had so much as a moment to prepare herself for the next sight she was about to face.

Before she could even take the time to stand up, the light intensified, and there looked to be a sort of movement from within the void. After being rendered nearly blind, the light died down, and whatever – or rather, whoever – was doing the movement finally stepped out.

First came the shoes, then the dress, and finally, the crown. At least, that was the order in which Uraraka saw her, as she saw the figure from below, making her way up.

Princess. Before she’d even made her introduction, Uraraka knew that the girl standing before her was a princess. Everything about her was beautifully charming, from her face to her eyes, her dress to her stockings, the shoes she wore to her feet to the crown she bore atop her head. She wore a pink gown, made of lush fabrics Uraraka could only dream of ever touching in her lifetime. It wasn’t so long as to give her the appearance of a queen, but just enough to make clear that she really was a princess.

She wore white, translucent silk stockings that reached just below her knees, and a pearl necklace around her neck. Her chestnut hair reached just below her shoulder, and atop her flowing hair was a tiara, so bedazzled with white gems it couldn’t be made of anything but diamonds.

But of all things, her face was what made the most clear she had nothing but royalty in her blood. Everything, from her facial expression to her features, screamed royalty. Her cheeks had an inherent rosy quality, and her eyes glittered and shone green so much they looked to be made of emerald or jade.

Before Ochako uttered a word, the princess scoured the room, before her eyes landed on Uraraka. As soon as they did, she rushed towards her and fell to her knees, suddenly grasping the schoolgirls hands with the twinkle of joy in her eyes.

“Yes, it worked! I found you!”

Uraraka stammered. “Wh- what?”

“Oh, it really worked, I did it, I did it!” She tightened her grasp on Uraraka’s hands, before suddenly letting go, grabbing her shoulders.

“So it really is you...” She muttered, as she looked Uraraka over, before setting her gaze on her face. “Oh, you can’t imagine how glad I am for having found you, I’d hardly believed it’d work!”

Ochako’s eyes widened, surprise overtaking her. “Huh? Me?”

The princess laughed. A beautiful, youthful laugh it was. “Yes, you!”

They stared at each other for a few more seconds. The princess in interest, the schoolgirl in cluelessness.

The princess perked up, and she laughed once more.

“Oh, you poor thing! I must look rather strange to you, I’m not very sure what is the custom in your world.”

Her world?

“But I’d think the fashion would be to at least give a proper introduction before anything, wouldn’t it?”

Dazedly, Uraraka nodded, finding an odd difficulty in doing so. The princess stood up, taking Ochako’s hands in hers as she urged her to stand up as well.

“To put it simply, I’m the you from another world, a world parallel to this one. I’m the princess of the Eiyuu kingdom. It’s my pleasure making your acquaintance.”

She bowed, and Uraraka was finally getting a hold of her senses. The more the princess spoke, the more princess like she seemed to be.

“It’s... it’s my pleasure too, princess.” Uraraka gave a rushed bow, assuming it was the best thing to do.

“Ah, but I haven’t told you my name, haven’t I?” She rose her head, standing back straight as she smiled at her, her hands held behind her back “My name, is Ochako Uraraka.”

Suddenly, Uraraka felt an eerie feeling overtake her, because it was then, and only then, that Uraraka realized the princess looked just like her. From the slight hue of pink to her cheeks to the roundness of her face, and even the way her eyes burst with expressiveness, they were one and the same. Their only real difference in being their eye color. And yet, even so, Uraraka knew that save for appearance, they couldn’t have been more different.

“That... can’t be... my name is Uraraka, Ochako Uraraka too!” She exclaimed, surprise apparent in her voice, with a slight undertone of fear. It was, quite the stark contrast to the princess’s demeanor.

The princess’s eyes widened. She broke out in laughter, skipping in her spot as she clapped her hands together in a clear display of joy.

“Even better! We’ve got the same appearance and the same name, oh this is simply wonderful!”

Uraraka let go of her hands, taking a step back.

“What is it? Are you alright? I’m sorry, did I startle you too much? I know this is rather sudden, but I’d rather you didn’t pass out on me, at least not for the time being. I am in rather desperate need of your help.” She said, anxiously clasping her hands together.

“No, I mean, this is all just so surreal...”

The princess cut her off, anticipation creeping onto her disposition. “Oh don’t you worry, all will make sense in good time. Now that you know who I am, I must tell you the purpose of my visit. You see, I have a request to ask of you, and I admit, it isn’t a small one either.”

Ochako nodded, curious as to what a princess could possibly want from her. As bizarre and surreal as the matter was, she couldn't really deny what she was witnessing. Unless she was hallucinating or dreaming, in that regard there wasn’t much she could do either.

“You see, I’d like to switch places with you.”

“So you’re saying...” She tilted her head slightly. “You want to switch lives?”

“Yes, exactly so.”

“But... why? You’re a princess, I’m just an ordinary girl, why would you want to take my place?”

Graveness creeped onto the princess’s features, as she grew solemn. “A number of things, really...”

She smiled, though this time, it was devoid of joy. “But few would be relevant to your knowledge. I’ll tell you the most pressing matter, the one I really need attending to.

“You see, every year, my kingdom hosts a great ball, called the ball of Saint-Lyon. I’m supposed to partner with one of the prince’s for the ball, but if I’m being completely honest with you none of them are of any interest to me.”

She smiled sheepishly, her cheeks growing slightly pink in embarrassment. “And this is also in complete honesty, but I'm not very good at dancing.”

“Is dancing a big deal in your kingdom?” Surely it must’ve been, if the princess ran away for such a reason.

“Oh yes, it’s a very big deal, at least among the noble and royal classes. For a princess not to know how to dance is a matter of the deepest shame, I’d doubt you could possibly be any worse than me. You’ll have enough time to sufficiently garner your skill in dancing, and to find a prince, don’t worry.”

Ochako hummed. “Huh... So, when is this ball?”

“In thirty days, exactly.”

“Thirty days? Will that really be enough?”

“Yes... I’d think, at least. If you put a little mind to it, it could be possible.

Ochako hesitated. If anything, the princess did well in maintaining her composure, but desperation creeped up her tone and countenance like a bad vice. Her request was a difficult one, and she knew it. To learn how to dance and find a dance partner in just thirty days was no easy task, to be a princess even less.

She turned her head away, unable to meet the princess’s gaze. “Uhm... I don’t know...”

The hope died down from the princess’s eyes, when she realized what was it Ochako really meant. She lowered her gaze, full of disappointment.

“Oh... I see, I understand. Pardon me for having disturbed you, It was never my intention to be anything of a bother for you, really, and I’m sorry if you feel I’ve pressured you. My deal was a difficult one, I’m well aware of it, I guess it’s only natural you refused.”

As the princess said this, while she seemed to speak of nothing but her honest truth, it didn’t negate the fact she looked more than crestfallen. It was something Uraraka hadn’t noticed to her countenance, but in her air of despondence and disheartenment, there looked to be a lack of spark in her bright green eyes, before she’d even refused her offer. If somebody else had seen it, they’d have understood it; but the princess had given it all up.

Her will for everything: happiness, joviality, sentimentality, affection, all the romantic qualities of her life, she’d given it all up. One may possess romantic qualities in their person, but those qualities will always remain, even when the individual abandons their will for life’s pleasures. In simpler terms, the princess may have been a perfectly charming maiden, but nothing of the impending future ahead was romantic.

If only Ochako knew, how terrible of a tragedy it was...

Ochako said nothing, letting the guilt simmer in her gut. The princess had come to her hoping for help, help she seemed to dearly need, but had only succeeded in getting herself disappointed. Uraraka wished to apologize, but what would an apology even do? The princess didn’t need an apology, she needed help, not Uraraka’s sorry.

Just as the princess turned around, headed back to the closet, Uraraka found herself speaking up.

“Wait!”

Wordlessly, the princess turned around, her expression monotonous. Her eyes had lost all glitter and shine, nothing was left of them but what was nearly dull green.

Uraraka played with the hem of her shirt, hesitating for a moment before speaking.

“I... I’ll do it.”

The princess’s eyes widened slightly.

“...huh?”

What was she saying? She’d just made it clear that it was too difficult of an offer...

And yet...

“I said, I’ll do it! I accept, I’ll take your place!”

The girl barely managed to get the words out her mouth. “Y-You will? But why?”

Uraraka thought back, of herself, of who she was. Her alternate self was a princess, but who was she? She wasn’t just a schoolgirl, she was...

“Because I’m a hero, that’s why!”

When the princess didn’t speak, she did.

“I’m nothing like you, I think you didn’t have much trouble noticing that. I’ve never owned anything lavish or fancy, and all of my belongings are plain and mostly cheap. If I’m being honest, my family’s always struggled with money, so I didn’t have much growing up...”

She smiled, thinking back of the memories. “But it was enough. I was loved and cared for, I’d think it was all I really needed. I’m assuming you didn’t lack in material things, but I don’t think you came to me just out of curiosity. Whatever it is that you lack, princess, I think you might just find it in my life.”

Finally, as Uraraka looked up to meet the princess’s eyes, now swelling with tears, she smiled once more.

“I wouldn’t be so selfish as to deny you of your problems, especially if I knew I had just the right solution. It doesn’t matter how difficult the matter is, I have to help others in need, that’s just who I am. Especially when it’s something I know the person needs. I would never deny your love, princess, but I can assure you, you’re nothing short of deserving for it.”

The princess was crying, with tears streaming down her face and reddened eyes and all, but her expression was one of such shock it didn’t even seem like she noticed her tears.

“You... you sound just like...”

She’d spoken so low Uraraka hadn’t heard her, but before she could react, the princess flung her arms around Uraraka, hugging her in such a tight embrace like she never wanted to let go.

“Thank you so much... I don’t think I’ve ever met somebody so good as you are, I won’t ever find the ability to thank you enough...”

“It’s alright, I don’t expect anything. I’d think your happiness would be enough, that is all...” Uraraka hugged her back, speaking gently as to comfort the girl.

The princess sobbed with all her heart, wiping her tears with her hand, in such a way that surely wouldn’t have been accepted in court. To cry in such a manner was a perfectly un-princess-like thing to do, but she wasn’t a princess, just a normal schoolgirl at U.A, and that was all that mattered.

It was then that suddenly, the door burst open, and in what could possibly have been the worst moment possible, a shack of pink hair and peeking little corns came in, looking about the room.

“Hey, Uraraka! I think you dropped something from your bag, I think it’s yours at least, it’s pink, and I know it’s not mine...”

When Mina stepped into the room, it appeared she was observing a small, pink notebook covered with cute stickers on top. And it was with nothing short of sheer mortification that Ochako realized not only did she not properly close her dorm’s door, but Mina would have no idea who the princess was, and worst of all, that notebook she held in hand...

The princess broke out the hug, giving a start that was more of a leap back from Uraraka. Uraraka, on the contrary, was headed towards Mina, drastically snatching the notebook she held in hand.

“Shoot, sorry girl I didn’t realize that was private... you look all out of sorts, and, hey...”

She finally noticed the princess, and when her eyes set on her, the royal’s face paled. She looked at the princess, then back at Uraraka, her gaze flitting between the two as her brows furrowed in increasing confusion.

“Uraraka... but then... Uraraka? Uraraka this princess chick looks just like you... Woah this is trippy... Is this like, some kind of prank or something?”

The princess and the schoolgirl looked at each other, then back at Mina, not so certain what to tell her. The princess looked back at Ashido, squinting her eyes at her.

“Hey... you’re... you’re lady Ashido, aren’t you? Yes, it really is you, why this really is an alternate world!” She wiped her tears, looking to be less saddened now that she’d seen another oddity.

“Huh? How do you know my name? And who even are you, who’s the real Ochako?” Mina grew more panicked by the moment, visibly fearful at the scene.

Well, if she’d seen the princess, then there was no real way to go back, wasn’t there?

Uraraka told Mina all about the princess, her appearance from the closet, her problem, and her request. Curiously, the more Ochako spoke, the more Mina understood the situation and calmed down, but with this calm came to her an increased air of excitement.

“Woah, so you really are a princess! So is that tiara made of real gems? And your clothes, they look so expensive, they’re gorgeous! Uraraka, you’re going to accept, right? It’s not everyday that a magical princess offers to exchange places! And you said that your world is an alternate world, do you know the me from your world? What’s she- er- I mean, what am I like?”

Mina poked around the princess, observing all too closely her face, hair and garments, getting a sense of her with more than sight alone. The princess looked to be a little flustered, not very used to people casually poking her around in such a way. She often inspired curiosity in her own world, but people often restrained themselves, expressing their curiosity rather timidly if they ever had the chance to do so.

“I- uhm, yes, I do know Lady Ashido, to a certain extent at least. She’s a Lady from a foreign kingdom I fear I’ve forgotten the name, and I’ve seen her once, during a ball of no particular occasion, while she’d come to visit my kingdom. We stayed together during the entirety of the ball, I quite liked her, I honestly wished to develop a friendship with her, but I’m afraid she comes from a kingdom too far from mine, so we wouldn’t have been able to see each other very often. She was quite the amiable companion to have for the time, and in terms of character... Well, she wasn’t very different from you.” The princess told Mina, smiling as she told that last phrase.

And Mina could only gape in awe at her tale. With nothing of an ounce of hesitation, she gripped the princess’s shoulders, shaking her while begging hopelessly.

As a child, Uraraka never let herself get enraptured by the idea of a royal princess life, simply because she knew there was no way she could attain such a life. And yet, even in her more mature teenage years, the same couldn’t be said for Mina.

“Please, please please you have to let me go with Uraraka! I wanna go so bad, it sounds so cool! I wanna dance at balls, I love dancing, and I wanna dance with princess and wear cool dresses!”

Surprised, the princess hesitated, not very sure of what to make of this sudden outburst. She wasn’t very used to being spoken to in such a way, and it showed.

“Well, er... I, I’m not sure... I’d only intended for my alternate self to go...”

Mina’s countenance shifted to one of sheer desperation, on the verge of near tears. She begged some more, shaking the royal back and forth, rather aggressively despite herself. There wasn’t much Ochako would really say, she was still a little surprised by it all.

“But, uhm...”

Mina stopped when the princess spoke up, seemingly trying to hold up her formal, royal facade.

“I suppose the castle is rather vast, and it could do good for Miss Uraraka to have company with her on her trip... I don’t suppose Lady Ashido will be coming from her kingdom for Saint-Lyon either, so...”

Mina’s expression brightened, her smile stretching from one end to another as her eyes widened.

“I don’t suppose it would do any harm for you to have some company...”

“Yes! Thank you so much princess, you won’t regret this, Uraraka’s going to kill it for the lion ball!”

“Saint-Lyon...” The royal muttered, hopelessly...

“So, how do we go?” Ashido continued, with no regard to the princess’s words, probably having heard them in the first place.

She nodded, and with a careful movement, pulled a necklace off her neck, holding it within her hands. A richly bejeweled chain it was, with a tear shaped, ornate pink gem hanging at the end of it.

“My necklace... it possesses magical properties, I made it to be the key between my world and yours, with our respective closets being the portal entries. I wear it at all times, and you are to do the same as well.”

Ochako nodded, making sure to commit the information to memory.

“It’s... it’s very dear to me, I’d rather you didn’t lose it. I went to great lengths to have it enchanted, so if you lose it... well, I’d rather not consider the idea.”

Uraraka nodded once more, carefully holding the chain when the princess handed it over to her. She studied it carefully, noticing it was slightly heavier than she’d expected it to be.

“If you aren’t wearing it, you won’t be able to come back to your world in the end of the thirty days, but you can’t come back with your key alone either. My key is the only one who allows the user to freely go to and from worlds, but yours only allows you to switch worlds if I allow you to do so.”

“So you’re the only one who can take me to and from worlds, is that right?”

“Yes, exactly.”

“Huh... So, is there anything else I should know?”

“Nothing I have the ability to prepare you for, no.”

Before Uraraka could question her statement, the princess suddenly opened the closet once more, which had previously closed shut upon the princess stepping out. Once more, it’s doors wildly flung open , the void churning within.

“See you soon, Princess!” Mina yelled over the noise of the wind, as Uraraka tried to speak to the princess, to no avail.

“Come on Ochako, what are you waiting for? Let’s go!”

“Wait, I still have to-”

Mina grabbed Uraraka’s arm, and she could only look back at the princess in a desperate, pleading look.

The princess only smiled, yelling over the noise when she remembered she hadn’t told Uraraka something of a certain importance.

“Just remember, the necklace makes you fly!”

But before she could properly grasp her words, the poor girl was pulled in by her friend, who’d jumped right into the void with nothing of the slightest ounce of hesitation.

And so, Uraraka’s thirty days were thus to officially begin, to the poor girls astonishment. In her cluelessness and panic, she could only hope her princess crash course would go well, and that she’d make the best of her princess debut.
