Chapter Text
The smell of thinner and paint was thick in the air as the new kid aka D dipped her brush into the cup.
Art class, some called it cultured others pretentious.
But one thing they could all agree on,it was an excuse to get messy without getting in trouble.
And despite the questionable budget cutting and strange or downright weird things that came and went in the school,Art class was untouched
with ample supplies of everything a budding artist could want including clay, colored paper, rainbows of colored pencils and crayons, cardboard and paints, watercolors and the classic oil and acrylics.
She loved it all.
However today was specifically an acrylic painting day,an order given from the teacher.
A rare exception to an otherwise unbridled freedom in this class.
But...they could choose whatever colors they wanted and do whatever they envisioned on the canvas.
The theme of the project was beautiful things, vague to be sure but the goal teacher said was to paint something the artist in particular thought was beautiful to them without regards to whether others thought so or not.
She glanced around at some of the others in the room, well the end result could turn out that or perhaps downright horrifying depending on who it was.
D turns to the left and looks at Butters canvas.
He's humming softly and painting a rainbow over a field of daisies. Seems on point for him,he's not shy about liking cuter things.
The blonde notices her looking and beams a sunny smile.
"Oh D,do you like my picture?"
"I wasn't sure what to paint but then I started thinking about all these happy things like rainbows after a stormy day and..."
As much as she loved listening to him chat if she didn't stop him she'd get off schedule right now.
So D gives him a thumbs up,Butters getting the hint returns to his painting and she resumes her lines.
A few minutes later she looks over to her right at Kenny,he was doing...something she couldn't tell from her current angle.
Dare she even look and see what sort of thing he's conjured upon the canvas?
She peeks over,it's a race car.
Well that's normal
Kenny sees her staring.
"What are you staring like that for?"
"What did you think it was going to be?"
He says that last part like he's pressing her buttons.
D just blinks and he wipes the brush he rinsed on his smock.
"Come on what do you take me for D?"
He leans in a little too close and whispers.
"I think about other things too ya know."
She can feel him grinning under his parka and feels her heart thump but manages to keep a stoic face.
Kenny had gotten better at reading how she felt, she's not sure when the shift happened but like how she mostly understood his muffled speech now,he had started to accurately determine her gestures and body language, not quite at Butters level but it was impressive.
Unfortunately he'd also been using his newfound knowledge to try to catch her off guard and get reactions.
He's probably just being playful but lately it was a bit much.
She merely returns to her canvas and hears him let out a muffled sigh and mutter. "Next time...it's far from over."
Wait what?
"TIMMY!"
She snaps up her gaze and leans over the side of her picture.
Timmy is waving and gesturing.
"TIM TIMMY TIM TIMAH TIM!"
Oh the wig is getting itchy and he's tired of this position am I done yet?
D grabs her whiteboard to reply, holding it up so Timmy can see.
Almost, hang in there a little longer please
"Timmy." He resumes his position.
She fills in more blank canvas and blends colors together.
Her Timmy as the Mona Lisa painting had come along quite nicely,he was pulling off the hairdo fantastically along with the folded hands and serene expression but the smile?
Well she had to do a little artistic license for that detail,Timmy couldn't quite do the famous smile. But it was a nice smile non the less.
D finishes and smooths over the final details and Butters looks over to her picture.
"Oh wow D,it came out great."
Kenny chimes in too.
"Yeah you really got his good side."
D writes a new message on the board.
Okay Timmy it's all finished
"Timmy!"
He takes off the wig finally relieved and tossed it across the room without care.
Then he wheeled over to see the finished product.
"Timmah Tim."
On the the canvas was a near perfect replication of Leonardo da Vinci's the Mona Lisa but with Timmy's face instead, still in the same style of course.
He waves his arms all around in excitement.
You like it?
Timmy gives a big smile and a few nods just as the door opens and Jimmy comes in.
"Hey there D,Tim Tim I came to see how the paintings going before we head off to my stand up show later."
She holds up the board for him to see.
It's finished
"W-wow really that fast?"
He comes over and looks at the still wet canvas.
"Oh nice D,you really got his good side."
"Timmy." He seemed pleased.
It's all yours after it's graded like we agreed
"Timmeh."
"Okay well,we're just gonna h-head out now D,Timmy and I got a comedy show to g-get ready for."
She waves goodbye and gives them a thumbs up.
The art teacher Mr Jon-Pierre also stepped out right after them.
She gets up to stretch her legs and see what others are working on now that she's finished.
Oh Clyde is painting? And she also sees Tweek and...Craig too?
Huh he for sure doesn't seem like the art type.
She goes over to Clyde,he's painting or trying to paint himself with huge muscles and no shirt, lifting weights.
At least she thinks that's what it is.
"Oh hey D,you see this?" He gestures to his work.
"Looks great right?"
I truly have no words
"Thanks man." Clyde says still smiling.
Missing the sarcasm in her sentence.
Well at least he's happy.
"You see,I might not look like the art type I know, but there's a reason I'm doing this."
Which is?
"It's cause the ladies love a guy who's into art."
Just where did he even come up with that one
"Trust me D when the girls all get a look at this they'll start running."
You know what,he's probably right but not in the way he thinks. D muses.
Right I'll just let you get on with finishing that
She leaves then goes to Tweek and Craig.
The jittery blonde was trying his best to hold the brush steady but it wasn't going well.
"Hah Haa,augh this is too much pressure!" He exclaims his anxiety getting the best of him.
"Take some deep breaths Tweeky, you got this alright?" Craig says,in his usual monotone but it had an unusual softness to it.
Well unusual if you were anyone else but Tweek.
D liked seeing their interactions, they brought out the best in each other and it was also cute to watch.
She hopes they'll be together forever, well other then that fight she helped patch up they have lasted as the longest couple here so it's on track for being that way.
Will she have that kind of love someday too?
Well...she had a couple people in mind but with the whole no one knows she's actually a girl thing going on.
Yeah best not to dwell on it right now.
Tweek's painting is all over the place,it's abstract maybe?
Well it's very colorful with nice cool palette shades.
But she's not sure if he's so much painting as getting his stress out the poor thing.
"Ahh! D,don't startle me like that." She hadn't even gone up behind him, must be a sensitive day.
Craig looks up for a brief moment then returns to his own work.
"S'up." Well he must be in a good mood if he bothered to greet her.
Tweek's gasping and heavy breathing drew her attention back to him though.
"It's not working it just keeps getting worse! Ahhh I'm so gonna fail this one!"
She boldly takes his hands and the brush which quiets him for a moment and points to her mouth with emphasis on slow breaths.
"Right...right I-I just need to remember the meditative breathing."
Yes good, you're stronger then the anxiety I believe in you
She looks over his canvas while he's breathing.
Tweek was very capable but his anxiety tended to overwhelm him,not to mention the stress of working at his families coffee shop.
Hmm lots of spots and squiggles of different sizes.
She dips his brush into some red.
"Huh wh-what are you doing there?"
She makes a triangle with uneven lines, then puts a smaller triangle of a different color inside it,until she couldn't make any more.
Simple details but it added a lot of depth to the painting.
"That..that's cool actually...I-I could add more of those then it would make it look better."
He's smiling a little, breathing calm at least for now. So he should be able to finish it she thinks.
Curiously she peeks at Craig's painting.
"It's a black circle about the size of an orange,in the middle of the canvas, that's it.
She blinks.
Craig gives his reasoning.
"I came here for Tweek, was told to paint something and I did,as you can see."
Sounds about right she supposes.
"Uh huh, yeah you just do whatever else then and I'll be here with my boyfriend."
However she did catch him mouthing thank you to her.
Craig was usually good at helping Tweek get through his anxieties but even he got tired too.
She returns to her seat between her two what she'd call closest friends.
Butters is still painting his rainbows and flowers.
Kenny she isn't sure,he's looking at his canvas, until she sits down and can see his eyes turn to her out of the corner of her vision.
But that isn't important right now,she gets out her sketchbook to scribble out new ideas for later.
What to paint next time? Maybe something more on the impressionistic art style or dream painting?
Her thoughts are interrupted by a wet, soft tickly feeling on her cheek.
She quickly turns causing it to spread across her upper face and nose.
Kenny is dragging his brush on her face, grinning mischievously D can tell even though most of his mouth is covered, she can still see his eyes crinkled up from smiling.
Oh so you want to play that game then Kenny?
She puts her hands over his eyes.
"Ahh Ahh Hey I can't see that's just mean!"
She feels a brush on her other cheek.
"I wanna play too."
Now Butters is going to be mischievous.
She grabs Butters hands but then Kenny now free starts up again.
Dang it,she can't fight off the both of them teasing like this.
But the play fighting is halted by the sound of the door opening and new people coming in.
Stan,Kyle and...Cartman.
The three stare, brushes still against her face and everyone else looks up from their work and goes silent.
Well the peace was nice while it lasted they all think.
