Chapter 1: Clearance: ….you already know don’t you

Chapter Text

Peter’s head rushed up. Surely he misheard what his teacher Mr. Harrington just proudly announced.

With a cheek red where his head rested on the table, he looked around.

And the chattering of his fellow students confirmed it. “We're going to Stark Industries,”
“No way!” “We’re going to meet Tony Stark”

Yep.

The surprise field trip that Mr. Harrington told them about weeks ago.

And the entire class had been excited for it ever since. Even Peter had been happy while thinking of the trip.

But of course it had to be to his almost-home now.

Ever since May died, Tony took him in, and over the months he became peters dad.

What would he do now?

He was able to keep it from his class until now but Peter was really clueless in thinking of a method to keep his secret from the class.

“Dude!”

Ned didn’t even have to whisper, he was still easily overpowered by the still crazed class.

But thanks to Peter’s special hearing he could make out the world. “Dude!” He answered. “

“That’s literally where you live man!” Ned lowered his voice anyways now, much to Peters content—He really didn’t want anyone finding out.

“What are you gonna do?” Before Peter could give a half-assed answer, they were interrupted by a snobby voice.

“Well, well, well, look at that Puny Parker. Guess we’re all going to find out about your fake internship”

Peter sighed

Flash has been bothering him about his very real internship at Stark Industries for a while now. Peter didn’t even tell Flash.

He only told Ned and Ned had been a little too excited—and Flash overheard.

“Stop pestering me Flash”
Peter rarely fought back and if he did, like now it was without any bite.

“You shouldn’t have bragged about it Puny…you’re a liar and it’s your fault”

“I didn’t brag about it Flash, you heard us talking about the internship.”

“Whatever Puny. I, for one, can’t wait to see your face when Stark comes and kicks you out himself.”

And with those words he walked out of the class. The bell had rung minutes ago and they were the last ones left.

Ned opened his mouth but Peter cut him off.

“Let’s just go please”

“Welcome, Pete!’” FRIDAY greeted him as he stepped through the entrance of the tower.

“Hey FRI” Peter answered tiredly. “Where’s Tony?”

“Boss is currently in his lab”

“How long?” Peter was worried. Tony had a habit of forgetting to sleep, eat and even drink when he was in his lab.

“Boss has been in his lab for eight hours now.”

Peter cocked his head. For an outsider that may seem insane, but for Tony Stark, that wasn’t too bad.

He walked over to the elevator, nodding at the security guard. The security knew him long enough now, and waved him through without a thought.

When Peter arrived in the lab, he didn’t spot Tony at first.

“Tony! Where are you?” He yelled, hoping to see the familiar head of hair somewhere.

“Underoos?” A voice yelled back, and Tony stood up from where he’d been tinkering.

His hair was mussed and motor oil was spread on his shirt, but a wide grin adorned his messy face.

“Hey bud! How was school?”

In that moment, Peter made a decision not to tell Tony about the field trip. “Alright” he just muttered.

Tony lifted an eyebrow. “Something you want to tell me?”

“Nope!” Peter let the ‘p’ pop and hurried to his workbench.

“Not so fast!” Tony grabbed Peter by his hood. “You told me a week ago that your field trip would be announced today.” He pressed.

Cursing his past self, Peter was contemplating if he should tell the truth.

“Yeah… we’re actually going here.”

Tony’s face scrunched in amusement. “How come I don’t know anything about this?” He chuckled.
“Do I need to sign anything?” “Y-yes” Peter muttered and handed him the permission slip

Peter dreaded to wake up that day. It was the day of the field trip, and he would have to drive to the school, only to drive back to the tower with the school bus.

He was getting ready until Pepper came in his room. “Hey honey, have fun on your trip!”

Peter groaned. “Did Tony tell you?” “Oh, he didn’t have to. Who do you think approved the trip?”

“Pepper” Peter cried, drawing the name out. “Now, get ready! You don’t want to miss it” And with those words she winked and closed the door behind her.

So Peter did like she asked and after getting ready, he hopped into Happy’s car. “When he arrived a little late at the bus, Ned greeted him enthusiastically.

They did their secret handshake and Peter took the seat beside him.

“Dude I’m so excited! This is gonna be so lit man!” Ned started to bubble happily.

“Ned, I’m like pretty sure you have been at the tower with me five times already.” Peter interrupted him tiredly.

“But this is different!” There were stars glowing in his eyes. “I’ve never been in the labs! And with the class too!”

Ned talked the entire ride about the upcoming trip, sending Peter further into his misery.

After what felt like two minutes, Mr. Harrington told the students to get off the bus and sort into pairs like they were nine years old.

“Please behave accordingly. We’re representing our school and Stark Industries is an influential place, so act like it.”

Peter just shrugged and went in a pair with Ned.

As they walked through the lobby, Peter could recognize the security on duty but didn’t greet him—he didn’t want to draw any unnecessary attention on himself.

Suddenly, a woman he didn’t know appeared before the class.

Flashing a grin, she introduced herself. “Hello Midtown High! I’m your tour guide, Ellen and for today, any questions you might get, do not be afraid to ask me.”

Her hands moved with her words in a professional manner. It was clear this wasn’t the first time she did this.

“This tower is incredibly safe, so the security is strict. To move around here, you will each need a badge.

And yes you may take it home with you, but after you leave these gates, the badges will not be functioning anymore.”
