“Avdol!!”
Polnareffs voice ran out through the hotel room.
“Hm?”
Avdol looked over, his tarot cards shuffling through his hands, an eyebrow raised.
“You’re a fortune teller right?”
Polnareff asked, a grin on his face.
“Yes? Why do you ask?”
He chuckled, and Avdol sighed. He knew he was going to propose something.
“I’ve been thinking about my love life with the ladies that I’ve seen on this trip..”
Avdol’s eyes narrowed at him.
“I’ll give you a reading.”
He sighs, and Polnareff cheers, plotting himself on Avdol’s bed.
“Clear your mind.”
“Eh??”
That emitted a sigh from Avdol.
“Don’t think of anything else but the cards, and focus on them.”
Polnareff nodded, starting at the cards as Avdol continued to shuffle them, slowly his eyes moved up to Avdol.
Noticing the scars on his face, how they were almost perfectly aligned, maybe scars from his fire? He didn’t want to ask, if it was personal. He was a nosy person, but when it came to Avdol, he almost barely knew anything about him.
He was scared to ask.
He felt like he’d maybe say the wrong thing?
He then noticed the jingle of his bangles as he continued to shuffle them, and looked back at his eyes.
Dark green.. and- staring straight at him.
“A-Are you finished??”
Polnareff asked, slightly embarrassed that he was caught observing him.
“Yes, now—“
He spread out the cards infront of him.
“— pick three, have the thought of love in your mind as you pick.”
Polnareff stared at the cards,
Was it like a card trick??
He hesitated picking the first one, placed it down, picking the other two.
“The first card is..”
He flipped it.
“Hey that’s your card!”
Polnareff exclaimed, a small smirk on
his face.
Avdol’s heart skipped a beat, and he reassured himself it meant nothing as long as the other cards weren’t- he sighed internally.
“The magician in a love reading, represents a harmonious conscience relationship, think about the people in your life, on a romantic level, not on a physical one.”
Avdol said, looking down at the card, then up at Polnareffs thinking face. He seemed to realize something, but said nothing on it.
“The next card, the lovers.”
“That Steely Dan bitch?”
“Language, but yes.”
“Sorry.”
“The lovers card.. it, represents a soulmate, a long lasting bond with someone that you think about.”
Polnareff frowned,
“This isn’t telling me if I’m going to get in a relationship.”
“It is, Polnareff. It’s not meant to fully tell your future, it’s supposed to help you figure it out on your own.”
He grumbles.
“Polnareff I mean it, think of the people that you’ve met, it could be a girl back in France, or someone you’ve seen on the trip.”
Polnareff was quiet again, and Avdol sighed.
“The third card.”
Avdol flips it over, and nearly chokes.
No, but- I shuffled the cards for at least 10 minutes? It- I’m thinking too much of it.
“The.. The chariot.”
Polnareff shifted his weight, he probably noticed too.
Avdol looked back down at the card, not at Polnareff.
He didn’t want to even try and make eye contact.
“This card represents taking initiative, rather than waiting for something to happen on its own. Such as, if you like someone, take a chance instead of wait..”
Avdol felt a presence infront of him, much near him, the beds weight shifted to behind him, a hand near his side, placed on the bed, Avdol looked up, and it was Polnareff, much too close for comfort.
“Polnareff- what are you..?”
“The cards said.. to take a chance.”
It finally hit him.
“So.. that’s what I’m doing.”
Avdol felt his heart beat a bit faster, Polnareff as well.
“Polnareff, I…”
He got closer, slowly moving his other hand to cup the side of Avdol’s face, and finally pressed his lips against his.
It was all so sudden for Avdol, he had kissed guys before. But with Polnareff it was different, almost awkward. But a nice awkward, a comfortable awkward.
Like he’d never kissed a guy, which Avdol guessed he hadn’t.
They leaned away from eachother,
“I-I’m sorry, Avdol that was really stupid of me, I just- felt like it was the right moment I’ve never…”
He talked fast, stuttering, and it emitted a chuckle from Avdol.
“W-What?? Avdol why are you laughin-??”
Avdol, with a smirk on his face leaned in again, kissing him.
They pulled back and Polnareff covered his mouth, a shocked expression on his face.
Avdol laughed again.
“Are you surprised?”
“Of course I am you moron!!!!”
“You’re the one who kissed me first.”
“T-That doesn’t matter!!”
Avdol reached out his hand, placed it on Polnareffs shoulder.
“Jean,”
Polnareff was shocked again,
“It’s 1988, I am a fortune teller. I said, I found Dio hot.”
Polnareff stared at him, oblivious.
“I’m gay, Jean.”
“WHAT??”
“JEAN, I KISSED YOU BACK.”
He sat back, a still shocked expression on his face,
“Avdol, you’re..?”
“Are you?”
“…”
Polnareff said nothing, he had a thinking expression on his face, but still had his hand halfway over his mouth.
“I-…”
“Jean I don’t want you to feel like you need to say yes just for me.”
“I don’t feel that way!!”
…
“What..?”
“I’ve.. had suspicions, even all the way back in France. I love women.. but I look past at certain men and I think, “he’s… really hot??”
And, when I met you—“
He chuckled.
“You were definitely one of those men.”
“Polnareff.. but..”
“Avdol, do not try changing my mind. It took all my balls to kiss you, I am not taking it back.”
It was quiet for a moment, Avdol didn’t know what to say, he felt really stupid.
“But, Polnareff. You’re aware that if we do this, there’s gonna be..”
“Avdol, I’ve thought of all the consequences.
I’ve been thinking of this, for a long time. Ever since you saved me in Calcutta.”
That was a long time ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday,
I had to hide from Dio’s minions. It was dumb, I knew I couldn’t tell Polnareff.
But to hide it from him for two weeks?
“I’ve felt like that much longer before Calcutta.”
Avdol admitted, leaning in slightly, the bed creaked again, and Polnareffs eyes widened slightly,
“Really..?”
He didn’t believe it, soon, it hit him.
Every time he found himself flirting with a girl, he saw Avdol watching,
and every time he chuckled to himself, figured he was jealous of him, that women actually talked to him.
But no, he was jealous of the girls.
Now that he was thinking of it, Avdol.. never talked to women.
Oh god, he felt so dense.
I should’ve noticed?? He was basically throwing signs at me, burning ones!
“Avdol, are we..?”
“Yes, you idiot.”
Polnareffs face turned into a smile, and he chuckled, leaning in again to him.
The cards were scattered on the bed,
The Lovers, The Magician and The Chariot.
