Chapter Text
“Where am I?” Izuku said as he opened his eyes and looked around the room he suddenly appeared in. He had no memory of getting here, the last thing he remembered was being in class when a bright light appeared from the windows. Was it some quirk? Whatever it was, it teleported him to an odd bedroom. The walls were actually chalk boards covered with scribbles that looked too familiar.
“Wait, this is my hand writing!” How could he have written this when he had never been in this room before? Did the flash of light steal his memories too?
“First thing first, I need to figure out where I am,” His heart sank as he looked out of the one small window in the room. The view showed him the ocean only a few feet away, and no recognizable landmarks.
Time to try the door. It opened without any issue, and he entered a small hallway. There were stairs leading up and down, and three other doors. The door to the right of him creaked open.
“Whoever you are, come out slowly, I am a hero in training!” Izuku warned.
“Don't hurt me!” A boy around his age appeared from the other room. He had pale skin, brown hair and eyes, and was wearing a doctor's coat. “I don't know how I got here, or where here is, but hurting a doctor is probably illegal,”
“You're a doctor?” Izuku asked. He must have a healing quirk to be a doctor this young. “Wait, you also don't know how you got here?”
The boy nodded. “I was hanging out in the rec room with my friends when a bright light appeared. At first I thought it teleported me to another room in the hospital, but I don’t remember this ever being here. I tried calling someone on my phone, but there’s no signal,”
“The same thing happened to me. This is getting weirder and weirder, so stick with me. I'm Deku,” He held out his hand, and the other boy shook it.
“I'm Oliver. You said you were a hero in training? Like a side kick? Because I'm a super hero doctor, so I can help you, if you need it,”
“A hero doctor? Wow, your quirk must be amazing then,”
“Quirk?” Oliver asked. Just then, another door creaked open. Deku whirled around and saw a superhero he had never seen before. They were wearing a red and blue spandex suit with a spider logo on the chest.
“Who are you?” Izuku asked.
“You don't know who I am?”
Izuku and Oliver shook their heads no.
“Huh, that's really weird,” He put his hand under his chin. “None of this is making sense,”
Bam! The last door in the hallway opened up, and out walked a woman a little older than Izuku with green hair. Behind her floated a weird blue robot thing.
“Where am I?” She barked. “Who are you guys, and what did you do to me?”
“We didn't do anything!” Oliver cried. “At least I didn't. A weird light showed up and then I appeared in another room. I don’t know how this happened and I don't know where we are,”
The woman looked over at Izuku and the strange man. “Did a flash of light come out of nowhere and take you too?”
Izuku and the man nodded.
The woman's frown deepened and she crossed her arms. “Great. So I'm stuck in an unfamiliar location with a Spiderman cos player, and two kids. Still better than prison,”
“Why are y-” Before Izuku could finish his question, Oliver asked.
“What's with the pictures?” He pointed to the framed photos on the wall. Taking a closer look at them revealed…
“That's me!” They all said. The photos were of a family that included Izuku, but not his mom or dad. Instead, a white guy with brown hair was his dad, while the woman with green hair was mom, and Oliver was his twin brother.
“How is this possible?” Izuku asked.
“It could be edited?” Oliver suggested.
“I don't think so. I'm a photographer, and these don't look edited,” the spider hero said.
“This must be a work of stand,” The green haired woman said. “It must have manipulated the world some way,”
“What's a stand?” The spider hero asked.
“It's the physical representation of someone's soul. Each one is different and can have insane powers. One of my friend's stand allowed them to control the weather and make people think they were snails,”
“Huh.” Oliver said. “Is that thing floating behind you a stand?”
“You can see it? Only stand users can see other stands,”
“I think it's clear by now that wherever we are, it doesn’t play by the same rules we come from,” the spider hero said. He looked over at the photos again, then took off his mask.
“I'm Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spiderman,”
“You're the guy in the photo!” Izuku yelled.
“Holy shit you're actually Spiderman!” The green haired woman said. “You're supposed to be fictional!”
“What?” Mr. Parker asked.
“In my world, you're just a comic book character, you're not real,”
“Oh,” Mr. Parker frowned, and the group went into an awkward silence.
“Hey, we never got your name, what is it?”
“It's Jolyne, and behind me is Stone Free, my stand,”
Izuku wanted to ask what it could do, but there were more pressing matters on hand.
“I'm Deku, and this is Oliver. Now that we all introduced ourselves, I think we need to find out more about where we are. Should we go up the stairs or down them?”
“Down. From the view out of my room, we're probably on the second floor. From there we can go outside and find out where we are,” Peter said. He walked down the stairs first and Izuku followed him, Oliver behind him, and at the end Jolyne.
Downstairs was a combined living room, dining room, and kitchen. On one wall there were more family photos, and the other wall was covered by shutters.
“Anybody recognize this room?” Mr. Parker asked. They all answered no.
Izuku walked past the couch to search for a curtain rod with Jolyne and Mr. Parker. Oliver went over to a small room in the corner by the stairs.
“I found the bathroom!” He said.
“And I found the thing that mattered,” Jolyne said as she pulled the curtain rod. The shutters opened, revealing that the beach and ocean were only a few feet away. In the far distance were city lights.
“I don't recognize the skyline.” Izuku said. “And I don’t think my quirk will take me that far. Does anyone else have a way to reach it?”
Mr. Parker and Jolyne shook their heads no.
“You keep mentioning a quirk? What is it?” Oliver asked
“Oh, it's called One for All,”
“I wasn't asking about the name, what is a quirk?”
“You don't have quirks in your world?” Izuku asked. A world full of quirkless people? Like the way it used to be?
“I mean, I've been called quirky all my life, but I got a feeling that's not what you are talking about,”
“It's not. Quirks are powers that almost everyone is born with. Some don't do much, but others can make you look like an alien or animal!”
“Oh, so it's like mutants,” Mr. Parker said.
“Mutants?” Izuku asked.
“People born with special powers, but where I come from, they're only a small part of the population,”
“Some people are born with super powers in my world.” Oliver said. “But sometimes you can get them from freak accidents or technology,”
“Well, unless you brought some of that technology with you, I don’t see how this is helping us get back home,” Jolyne said.
“Let's search some more.” Izuku said. “Maybe we can find a boat or something to help us get to the city,”
“Good idea,” Mr. Parker said. He opened a sliding glass door, and they followed him outside onto the wooden porch. In the center of the island was a weird fountain. It had an arch and an empty jar above it.
At the other end of the island, were a group of buildings. They looked like a grocery store, a clothing store, a furniture store, and a pawn shop.
They entered the grocery store first. It was small and nearly empty, only having four items to sell. Behind the counter was a mannequin with a TV for the head. The word HELLO flashed on screen.
“Hey, where are we!” Jolyne said as she stomped over to the counter.
FRESH KINGDOM! The logo for the store appeared on the TV.
“No, I mean where is the island? Why are we here? How do we go back home?”
CASHIER DOES NOT HAVE ANSWERS
“Who does!” She banged on the counter and Stone Free looked ready to fight.
“Wait a moment!” Izuku said. “Attacking this thing won't get us anything,”
He turned to the cashier. “What questions can you answer?”
I CAN ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT FOOD AND SOME GENERAL ISLAND INFORMATION
“What island info?”
THE ISLAND WAS DESIGNED TO BE COMFORTABLE FOR ALL. MORE ADMINITIES WILL BE ADDED. NO PERMANENT HARM CAN HAPPEN ON THE ISLAND, ALL SERIOUS WOUNDS WILL BE HEALED.
“But can we leave?” Oliver asked.
CASHIER DOES NOT HAVE ANSWER
“Can we get more food?” Mr. Parker asked. “Why are there only four options?”
MORE FOOD WILL BE AVAILABLE TOMORROW
Mr. Parker looked at the food options. Apples, fried eggs, butter cookies, and nachos. There were no prices listed.
“Why aren't there any prices?”
ALL FOOD IS COMPLEMENTARY. ORDER THE AMOUNT YOU WANT HERE AND IT WILL BE SENT TO YOUR KITCHEN AUTOMATICALLY
“Really? Cool!” Oliver said.
“How is this cool? We're still stuck here,” Jolyne said.
“Yeah, but there's free food, and everything's better with free food. I'd like one of everything please,”
“Me too,” Izuku said.
“Me three,” Mr. Parker added.
“I am not saying me four, but I also want that,” Jolyne said.
FOOD SENT. HAVE A NICE DAY
The TV shut off and the mannequin slumped over.
“Okay. . .” Oliver said. “I guess we'll go check out the other stores?”
They did. The cashiers were the same as Fresh Kingdoms, and gave the same non answer when asked certain questions. Everything was free, and anything purchased was sent back to the home. When they stepped outside T&C Reno, the sun was in the middle of the sky.
“It's about time for lunch.” Mr. Parker said. “Let's go see if the food was really sent over to the house,”
“I hope so, I'm getting hungry,” Oliver said.
The house was the same as when they left it. The fried eggs and apples were in the fridge, and the nachos were in take out containers. The butter cookies were on a plate on the dining room table.
“I'll go search for some cups,” Izuku said. He found some in the cupboards, and got everyone a glass of water from the sink.
“Thanks,” Oliver said. “So, I have a question about your world, actually a lot of them. Like how are quirks a thing? Can you control what type you get? What are the limits of them?”
“I'll try to answer all your questions, but it might be a bit hard explaining it all to you. Quirks are such a normal thing that they don't really need explaining. I wish I had my notebooks to give you, but my hand writing can be messy so you might have difficulty reading the Kanji, so I'm not sure how helpful they would be,” Izuku said.
“Can't you just translate them to English?”
“I don't know English very well,” Izuku rubbed the back of his head.
“But you're speaking it right now,”
“What? I'm speaking Japanese,”
“You are.” Jolyne piped up. “I can understand both languages. You're speaking Japanese,” she pointed to Izuku. “While the rest of us have been speaking in English. I just figured you were more comfortable speaking in Japanese,”
“The cashier did say the island was designed to be comfortable for everyone. Maybe it also translates our languages. I wonder if it works for written words too,” Mr. Parker said.
“I think it does. The words on the cashier's head were also written in Kanji,” Izuku said.
“Not having a language barrier is good, but it doesn’t bring us any closer on escaping here,” Jolyne said.
“Why do you want to escape so badly? Weren't you in prison?” Mr. Parker asked.
“I am, but I left all my friends in a bad spot. I need to go help them,”
“Do you mind telling us what you were in prison for?” Izuku asked.
“I do mind actually. It's none of your business,”
“I mean, it kinda is. We're stuck here on this island together with no way out, so I'd like to know if I was stuck here with a murder or not,” Oliver said.
“I was framed.” she said. “That’s all you need to know,”
“Um, okay,” Oliver looked as uncomfortable as Izuku felt, and the rest of lunch passed in awkward silence. Once it was over Izuku got up to wash the dishes, and passed by some of the photos on the wall.
“Huh,” He looked closer at one of the photos, which seemed to show an elementary school class.
“That’s Ka-chan! And Todoroki, Mina, Momo, Tysu, Ochaco, Mei, and Ida!”
“Wait a minute,” Oliver moved over to look at the photo too. “That’s me and Kaz! And Skylar, but we didn’t meet her until high school,”
“I didn't know anyone except for Kachan until high school too. Do you recognize anyone else in the photo?”
He shook his head. “Nope. This place is getting weirder and weirder. Maybe after I go to sleep and wake up, all of this will be a weird dream,”
After doing the dishes, Izuku went back to “his” room. There was a bed, a dresser, and a desk with a chair. Opening up the dresser revealed that it had his hero costume, which was nice, his everyday clothes, and some pajamas. In the desk drawer were pencils, pens, and notebooks. He opened one of them and flipped through the pages.
Some of these pages are just like mine. He thought as he read the one All Might. But some of these are about heroes I never heard of, including Spiderman. Some of the other heroes must be from Mr. Parker's and Oliver’s world. It felt like he was stepping into another world where he had always known them as family, but if that’s the case, why did he have his normal memories? And where was everyone else in the photos?
Maybe a good jog will clear my mind. He put on his hero uniform and went down the stairs. In the living room was Oliver, who was playing on some sort of video game console.
“Cool costume,” he said. “What’s your hero name?”
“Oh, it’s Deku,”
“Your hero name is just your name? That’s boring,”
“Deku’s actually my nickname. My name is Izuku Midoriya,”
“That’s less boring. What type of powers do you have?”
“Uhhh." While Oliver is from a different world, it's still too dangerous to reveal what my quirk actually is. "My quirks allows me to fly and have super strength,”
“Really, my powers allow me to do that too!”
“You have powers?”
“Yeah, sorta. My powers only activate when I’m near my best friend Kaz. Without him here, I’m powerless,”
“Oh, so your quirkless now,”
He shrugged. “I guess, but I’ve spent most of life without powers, so it’s not big of a deal,”
Interesting. Is that we’re brothers, we both weren’t born with powers? “I’m going out to train. You may not have powers now, but you could still join me if you want,”
“Thanks, but I’m going to stay here. I don’t know if there’s any sun screen around,”
“Suit yourself,” Izuku stepped outside and took another look at the island. There was plenty of open space to practice. He did a few warms up and took deep breaths. This place was weird, but he still had his quirk, and that’s what mattered.
Let’s do this.
“Huff huff huff,” He’s been working out for hours, and by now his bones felt like lead. At least he didn’t break anything.
I wish there was a water fountain nearby. There weren’t any water bottles in the house or store. Suddenly, with a poof, a water fountain appeared in front of him.
“Oh,” He didn’t know what to think. He pressed the button on the fountain, which sent clear water out of the sprout. Hesitating for a second, he took a sip.
It tastes normal, so it should be okay to keep drinking.
Now refreshed, he noticed that someone was watching him. On top of the house was Mr. Parker, sitting on the fence that lined the roof. He noticed that Deku was looking at him and waved.
“Great job,” he said.
“Thanks Mr. Parker. Or uh, Spiderman,”
“You can call me Peter,”
“Okay Mr. Peter. I was wondering something earlier, you said there were mutants in your world, are you one of them,”
Instead of answering, Mr. Peter backflipped from the roof onto the ground and landed perfectly on his feet.
“I had trouble hearing you, sorry. What were you asking?”
“Are you a mutant?”
“Nope, but I always get confused for one,”
“Then how did you get your powers?”
“I was bit my a radioactive spider,”
“Huh,”
“What, you don't believe me?”
“No! In fact, I actually want to know more now. Like can you shoot webs, climb on walls, or eat bugs? Also, how did a radioactive spider give you its powers through a bite? Was it the venom? Did it hurt? Did it give you any side effects?”
“Um, that's a lot to answer right now on an empty stomach. I'm going to get food for everyone and I can tell you more over dinner,”
Izuku smiled. “That sounds great Mr. Peter. I'll go tell Oliver and Jolyne,”
During dinner, which was just the same food as lunch, Mr. Peter did answer a lot of questions, and sometimes Jolyne answered too, which always made Mr. Peter frown. If he was a fictional character in her world, was Izuku and Oliver also fictional? But that couldn't be, he felt pain and shed blood, how could that be fake?
After dinner, Izuku got ready for bed. According to the clock on the wall, it was a little early, but maybe the island was in a different time zone. After a quick shower, where he discovered that all his soaps and shampoo was here too, he crept under the covers and tried to get comfortable.
Somethings poking me. He got up and searched the bed. On the side of the bed next to the wall were three action figures. One was his old All Might toy, the other was of Mr. Peter in his hero costume, and the last was one he didn't recognize. It was a Hispanic man with a beard and a lab coat. Weird. Placing the Spiderman and doctor toys onto the desk, Izuku got back in bed and hugged the All Might toy. It felt a bit childish, but in this strange place, it was good to be reminded of home.
