Chapter Text
Lucy has been feeling off for days and she has finally figured out why. She can’t believe it took her this long to figure it out and she is stressed. The very positive pregnancy tests in her hand explain all her symptoms. Tim and her are in a beautiful place, but they haven’t talked about kids in a long time. She doesn’t even know if he wants them anymore. He’s been acting weird the past few days and it’s making her anxiety sky rocket. “Lucy.” Celina is knocking on the bathroom door and she knows that she can’t hide for much longer. “Lucy, I’ll break the door if I have to.”
“I’m almost done in here. You really don’t need to do that.” She yells back. Lucy shoves the tests into her bag and then splashes water on her face. When she walks out, Celina isn’t around and she quickly goes to place her bag in her locker.
Lucy takes a moment to compose herself but jumps when she feels a hand on her. “Sorry, I was calling you.” Celina has a worried look on her face. “For a few minutes actually.”
“I’m sorry, I’m just tired today.” Celina grins and Lucy realizes what she said. “Not because of that.”
“Sure.” Celina doesn’t believe her. “Are you sure that you’re okay?” She asks her friend.
“I’m fine, Celina. Let’s head out.” Lucy rushes out of the locker room and her head is all over the place. She isn’t paying attention to where she’s going and finds herself running into a hard object.
“Woah, Luce, are you okay?” Tim is suddenly in front of her and she goes red realizing that she was not paying attention. “Lucy.” He pulls her to the side because he sees how frazzled she is.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I promise.” Her face is flushed and she knows she is not her usual self. Tim looks at her very concerned. “I swear that I am.” She emphasizes. Tim still doesn’t believe her.
“Just promise me that you’ll go home if you aren’t feeling okay. I will cover for you if I need to.” Tim grabs her hand and squeezes it gently. He really does always worry about her.
Lucy hates worrying him and feels bad. “I will go home if I need to. Be safe.” Tim kisses her cheek and then walks off.
The day starts smoothly but then every single thing seem to go wrong. By the end of the day, Lucy is exhausted, emotional, and even more stressed than she was earlier that morning. The positive pregnancy test won’t leave her mind and she has no idea how to talk to him about this. They’ve been living together for six months and things have been better than ever. “Hey.” Her boyfriend’s voice brings her out of her thoughts.
Lucy is standing outside of the locker room, waiting for Tim. “Hey.” She smiles at him but it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “Are you ready to go home?”
Tim walks with her outside. “Angela asked me to come over again tonight.” He sees a frown form on Lucy’s face. “I won’t be long, I promise.”
“It’s okay. I’m going to go home and rest. I might be asleep by the time you come home.” Tim pulls her in for a hug. “I love you.”
“And I love you.” He kisses her softly and rests his forehead against hers. “Please try to get some rest.”
“I’ll do my best.” Lucy finally lets go and they head their separate ways.
Lucy drives home on auto pilot. When she walks inside, she drops her bag, takes her shoes off and grabs the bag with the tests. She puts the bag on the coffee table and then goes to change into something more comfortable. She steals one of Tim’s shirts and grabs a pair of leggings. Her favorite fuzzy socks are clean so she puts those on as well. “Okay. You can do this.” She murmurs to herself. “You can find a way to tell him. He loves you and this is serious. You don’t need to be worried even if having kids hasn’t come up in a while.”
Lucy sits on the couch and wraps her arms around her legs. She is so lost in thought that she does not realize how much time has passed until there’s a hand on her shoulder and she almost falls off the couch. Two hands grab her before that happens. “Woah, are you okay?” Tim’s looking at her worriedly and she’s now embarrassed.
“Sorry babe. I’m tired.” It’s not even believable and she knows that it isn’t. “Today was awful.”
Tim sits and his hand lands on her leg. “Today was rough, but you were lost in your head just now. Actually, you’ve been pretty out of it all day.”
Lucy interlocks her fingers with his. “I’m just thinking about you.” She finally murmurs. Tim doesn’t pry and lets her speak before saying anything else. “I’m thinking about us and what the future holds.”
Tim manages to school his expression. Did someone tell her about the proposal? I knew that I shouldn’t have said anything to anyone. They all have big mouths. What if she doesn’t want this with me? “You are my future, Luce.”
She smiles softly but he still seems to not believe her. “I..I guess I was just having some self doubt. I don’t really know why.”
Tim moves his hand to cup her cheek. “I told you that I spent too many nights without you all those months ago and that’s still true. I’m sorry if I caused you to doubt any of this, but you’re the only one I want my future with.”
Lucy sees Tim’s face and she starts to relax. “I love you so much, more than I ever thought possible. This type of love isn’t something that everyone gets to have. Losing you again isn’t an option. Before, we talked about our future all the time, you know, but we haven’t done much of it lately. We are in the best place right now and we communicate about so much, but our future still hasn’t come up in a while.”
Tim blows out a breath. “We have been doing a lot of other things.” He teases and Lucy giggles. “But let me set the record straight. You are my future, Lucy Chen. You have changed my life in the best way possible and I can’t wait to marry you one day. I can’t wait to buy our own house together and fill it with those kids and grandkids we have long talked about. We will grow old together and fight over the most ridiculous things. You’re going to become Captain and I’ll retire to be a stay at home dad.” Lucy chuckles when he says that. “Our lives are only just beginning, baby, and I really can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
Lucy lets out a wet laugh and then draws Tim in for a kiss. It quickly gets heated before they both need to pull away for some air.
“Do you mean all that?” Lucy’s voice sounds small and Tim holds her head between his hands.
“I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life. I promise you.” He has the engagement ring in his pocket, which feels like it’s burning an hole in there, and he is tempted to propose at this moment but he has a plan and he really doesn’t want to ruin that. He wipes her tears away.
Lucy blows out a breath and she pulls away slightly. Tim sees her grab the bag off of the table. She plays with it slightly and he sees her chewing her lip. Tim runs his finger along her cheek and Lucy closes her eyes. When she opens them, she reaches inside the bag. “This is why I’ve been weird all day. I’ve been scared to tell you and I really hope you aren’t mad.”
Tim sees her pull something out and then places it in his hand. He looks down at the test in her hands and then looks back up at Lucy. “Lucy, is this…is this real?”
She nods her head and finally opens her eyes to look at Tim. “I’ve taken a few and they’re all very positive.” Her voice falters slightly and Tim immediately pulls her in for a hug. She can feel tears falling onto her shirt. “We’re having a baby. This is real.”
“Are you okay with this?” Lucy wishes that she wasn’t so nervous.
“This is one of the greatest moments of our lives. We’re going to be parents. You’re pregnant.” He pulls back and they are both openly crying. “I’m so happy.” Tim pulls Lucy to his lap. “Thank you for giving me everything that I used to dream about.” He kisses her softly and his hand moves to her belly.
“I love you and this is terrifying but I’m also so happy. We’re having a baby.” They both can’t stop smiling. Tim holds her close and his plan for proposing is going to happen sooner rather than later. “Our future is brighter than I ever expected.”
“It’s going to be beautiful, Lucy, and I have never been happier than I am at this moment.” Their lives were changing in the absolute best ways possible and he couldn’t wait for every single moment of it.
