Work Text:

The day has been longer than normal for the entire station so Lucy attributes how she’s feeling towards how exhausting and long it’s been. When it doesn’t stop after she jumps through the window of Tim’s office and finally is able to sit down hours later, she knows that something is off. She did eat normal bacon and not her facon this morning. Maybe that’s why. Angela startles her out of her thoughts. “Why do you look like you’re going to puke?”

Lucy wants to roll her eyes but she knows she may throw up if she does. Instead, she pushes Angela into the bathroom and starts pacing. “I think I’m pregnant.” She finally admits.

She doesn’t know why she’s telling Angela but she is. “I need a test to confirm.” She gives Angela pleading eyes and her friend takes the hint.

“I’ll go get one and I’ll try to be quick.” Angela knows that Lucy needs her help just like Tim did with the ring. As soon as she’s alone she mutters to herself. “I cannot keep all these secrets for these two.” She starts whispering in Spanish and quickly runs to the pharmacy one street over.

Meanwhile, Lucy has locked the door so that no one else comes into the bathroom. She is stressed, scared, and her nerves are all over. It’s not even a full ten minutes later that Angela is back and Lucy lets her into the bathroom before quickly locking the door. “I can’t do this.” She mumbles.

“Lucy, it’s all going to be okay. Tim loves you. You’re his future, okay?” Lucy closes her eyes and takes a moment before opening the box. Her hands are shaky but she manages to open one of the tests and then goes to the stall to take it.

Angela sets a timer on her phone once Lucy is done and they wait for three minutes to be up. “Why does it feel like it’s taking forever?” Angela has to finally grab Lucy’s hands to calm her down.

“I need you to try to breathe and relax for me.” Lucy closes her eyes. “Whatever happens, it’s going to be okay. I promise.” Angela doesn’t think she believes her but Lucy nods her head in agreement.

The timer goes off. “You need to look, Lucy.”

“I don’t know if I can.” She admits. “Why is this so nervewracking?”

“It’s a big thing in your lives. It’s terrifying but also rewarding. This is going to change your lives but I promise it’ll be for incredible reasons.” Lucy nods in agreement and finally picks up the test.

The tears immediately form in her eyes and her hand flies to her mouth. “I..I’m pregnant. We’re having a baby.” Angela wraps her in a hug and Lucy suddenly feels nauseous. She runs to the bathroom, Angela by her side. “This is literally from my nerves. I haven’t been sick like this at all.”

“It’s okay, Luce.” Angela helps her up and then to the sink. “You two will be amazing parents.”

“Tim’s leaving for a week for this damn work trip and things here are a mess. Now I’m adding this on top of it. I had to block my parents because they came after me after I did what I needed to do in order to survive and then Tim even told them off. I’m so happy but what if he thinks it’s too soon?” Lucy hates how emotional she sounds.

Angela hears Lucy’s sniffles and tries to reassure her friend. “Oh Lucy, I know Tim will be thrilled. You two are stronger than ever. This baby is so lucky.”

“Thank you for being here for me.” Angela squeezes her shoulder and they both head back out. Lucy has the test in her hand and has to quickly slip it into Angela’s coat pocket when she sees Tim coming.

“Why do you two look like you’re up to no good?” He can see the looks on their faces.

“We were just cleaning up the mess that was left thanks to our nightshift cops.” Tim heard all about it and Lucy kept everything running. He’s so proud of her.

“I heard. I also know that you were a badass and incredible. You would be an amazing Watch Commander.” Tim beams with pride.

Lucy snorts. “Yeah, I’ve had enough excitement for one day. I think you can have your job back.”

Twelve hours later, they’re finally going home. The exhaustion from the last twenty four hours are prominent. They shower together and then fall asleep in each other's arms. Lucy almost forgets about the test she took last night, but she remembers as she stirs awake just a few hours later.

Tim makes them a late lunch and then starts to clean up while Lucy starts to go to their room to fold some laundry. She hears the knock at the front door and sees Angela standing there when she opens it. She quickly steps outside and shuts the door behind her. “What’s up?” Lucy is nervous.

“I found something of yours.” Angela is grinning at her friend. “It was in my jacket pocket and my poor husband nearly had a heart attack.”

“I’m so sorry Ange.” Lucy’s face is red and she forgot she threw the test in there.

Angela waves her off. “It’s okay. I like scaring him, but I had a feeling you may want this back.”

Lucy wants to cry right now. “Oh absolutely I don’t have any more on me since I left the others at work and I can’t really go buy more when Tim was the one driving me home.”

Angela pulls Lucy in for a hug. “Take a breath. Everything is going to be okay.”

“You’re a good friend.” She says quietly and the door opening makes them both jump.

Tim’s standing there confused. “What’s up?” He doesn’t remember inviting Angela over. “Is everything okay?”

“I was apologizing for my husband, that’s all. I love you both and so does Wesley.” Angela hugs Tim too.

“We appreciate that.” Lucy smiles. “I’ll work on this one.” She points to Tim. He scoffs but Lucy gently slaps him. Angela leaves and Tim ushers Lucy back inside. Thankfully, he believed that story and doesn’t as anymore questions.

“It’s a beautiful day.” Tim looks at Lucy and continues on. “Why don’t we go for a walk on the beach?”

Lucy ponders for a minute. “I think that sounds perfect. We need some calm after the craziness. I’ll go get changed.”

Tim watches her walk away, his eyes never leaving her. She’s really his forever and it’s hard to believe that they’re here some days. “Are you ready?”

Lucy is standing in front of him and she seems to always take his breath away with how beautiful she is. “Absolutely.”

Tim holds out his arm and Lucy giggles before looping hers through it. “I love you.”

“I love you too Tim.” He pushes some hair behind her ear before pulling her in for a kiss.

They make it to the beach and Tim helps Lucy out of the truck. “It’s breathtaking.” Lucy murmurs. Her arm is wrapped around Tim’s and all her worries seem to dissipate when she hears the waves. “And peaceful.”

“It’s very calming.” Tim is looking at her. “Or maybe it’s my company.”

Lucy blushes and she tugs for Tim to stop. She rests her head on his arm. “Hmm, the company is probably my second favorite part.” Tim gasps and Lucy giggles. “I’m just kidding babe.” Her mind starts to wander and think about everything that’s happening or will be happening with them. She wants to have a relaxing night with Tim before he has to leave for this work trip. Tim’s fingers are suddenly wiping tears from her face when she didn’t even realize that she started crying. “Sorry.”

Tim’s hand cups her cheek and he looks into her eyes. “You have nothing to apologize for.” She can see that he’s worried. “What’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours?”

Lucy feels Tim’s arms pull her in for a hug and she relaxes into his embrace. She feels his lips gently kiss her forehead. “I really hate that you’re leaving this week.” She sighs and knows that it’s much more than that, but hopefully that will be enough for him.

Tim hums and pushes back slightly so that he’s looking at her face. “I’m sorry, Luce.” He hates leaving her and he hates sleeping without her even more. “I wish you could come with me.”

“So do I.” She sighs and she knows that she needs to tell Tim about the baby. Their lives are about to change in the best way and she doesn’t want him leaving without telling him.

Tim sees her chewing her lip worriedly. His fingers graze against the ring box in his pocket and he really wants this proposal to be perfect. Lucy lets out a shaky breath. She grabs Tim’s hands and he looks at her curiously. “Do you ever have that feeling where a moment is so perfect that you're trying to memorize it while you’re experiencing it?”

“Yeah, I have had that a lot more recently, mainly with you.” Tim brushes her some hair out of her face.

“Always with you.” Tim thinks this is the perfect moment to propose but Lucy starts talking again.

“There’s something that I have to tell you.”

This worries Tim slightly but he sees the smile cross her face. “Okay. What is it?”

Lucy’s hand moves to her back pocket and Tim wonders what she’s doing. “I found something out today, something that’s pretty big.” She places the test in Tim’s hand and when he looks down, his jaw drops. He is completely shocked and forgets about the fact that he brought her here to propose. “I’m pregnant.”

Tim looks back down at his hands and his brain seems to momentarily be broken. “Can you say please just say something?”

He finally snaps out of it and he pulls Lucy in for a kiss. “We’re having a baby. I’m going to be a dad. We’re going to be parents.” He picks her up and spins her around, eliciting a giggle.

“We are but I might throw up if you don’t stop doing that.” Tim chuckles and gently puts her down. “Sorry babe. I love how excited you are.”

“How long have you known?” He really is curious.

“Since earlier today. Angela bought me a test and then I shoved it in her pocket which is why she was at the house. I couldn’t exactly go buy another one without raising suspicion from you.” Tim wraps one hand around her back and the other moves to her still flat belly. He can’t stop himself.

“Lucy, you’ve brought the light back to my life and you always love me unconditionally. You truly have made my dreams come true.” Tim leans down and softly kisses her.

Lucy can’t stop smiling with how happy Tim is. She had absolutely nothing to be worried about. “You’ve made almost all of mine come true.”

Tim raises his eyebrows. “Almost?”

Lucy smirks and places her hand in his chest. “Mhm.” She doesn’t let him speak before she jumps in again. “Tim, my life is better with you in. You changed my life in so many beautiful, incredible ways over the last eight years.” She takes a breath and before she even knows what she’s doing, she’s going down on one knee. Tim seems shocked by it too. “Tim, I never thought that joining the LAPD would bring the love of my life, my favorite person, and the best man I know into my life. You’ve saved me in more ways than I can count and I feel lucky every single day to feel your love. There are times when I don’t feel like I deserve love but then you show me why I do every single day. Our journey into parenthood is going to be terrifying but we are in this together. I love you, Tim Bradford, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” She blows out a breath. “So, Tim Bradford, will you please marry me?”

She sees the biggest smile on his face. “Of course I’ll marry you.” She stands up with Tim’s help. “But you stole my moment tonight.”

Lucy cocks her head slightly. “What do you mean?”

Tim pulls the ring box out and Lucy gasps. “Tim.”

“This moment is even better than I could have ever imagined. Our future is going to be beautiful and I can’t wait to go through this life with you by my side.” Tim opens the box. “You’ve already asked me but I want to ask you too.” Lucy has tears in her eyes. “You are my shining light in this dark world, Lucy, and you’ve shown me how much light there can be every single day. I will do everything I can to prove myself worthy of your love for the rest of our lives.” Lucy wipes a few tears from his eyes. “So, what do you say, will you marry me?”

“YES!” She yells and Tim slides the ring in her finger.

“This is a much better story for the grandkids.” Lucy murmurs.

Tim rests his forehead against hers. “This is the absolutely best story for our kids and grandkids.” He can’t stop smiling. “And I can’t wait to tell it over and over again to anyone who will listen.”

“I love you.” Lucy murmurs.

“And I love you, Lucy Chen.” Tim whispers. “Today, tomorrow, and for the rest of our lives.”
