Work Text:
I am grateful, for it could be worse
Like being deathly still, in a hearse
Like living on the street, wearing rags
Scrounging for food in garbage bags
Or perpetuating the generational curse
Of marrying someone so averse
To loving their own children
They see me as a villain
I am grateful, for it could be worse
Like yelling until my voice is hoarse
Just to feel unseen and unheard
Such hurt leaves the vision blurred
I draw strength from a Bible verse
Grateful for the pennies in my purse
Plagued by situations so adverse
Yet I am thankful; it could be worse
