You're everything I hoped for You're everything I need

Summary:

Twitter/NGL prompt:

Fic idea: after Tim tells Lucy the whole ring story she asks him how he did it with Isabel and if it feels different for him this time with her

Notes:

I’m not a big fan of Isabel. And Tim has even said Lucy is different from her. I fully believe he loved her but she wasn’t the love of his life.

I thought this was a nice prompt 💜. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It happens a few weeks after they escape Everett’s right hand man. They have had visitors in and out for the last few weeks and it’s finally slowing down much to Tim’s relief. He appreciates everyone being concerned but he really just wants it to be him and Lucy. It was nice when it was just the two of them.

Lucy is washing their dishes from breakfast, and Tim is putting everything away when the doorbell rings and then there’s a knock on the door.

“Your mom again?” Lucy asks looking over at him but she doesn’t look upsets his mom had been a little overbearing. It wasn’t her fault, she had been worried and terrified that she would never see them again.

Tim understands that, he thought he would never see his mom or Genny again. And even if Lucy was there—she wasn’t near him.

But still—

“I don’t know,” Tim says and he walks over to her and presses a kiss to her cheek. “I’ll find out.” He squeezes her waist, and she gives him a look as he walks away.

God he loves her.

He’s not sure it’s possible but he’s fallen more in love with her. They have definitely gotten closer.

Tim walks over to the door and unlocks it. (Double locks because he wasn’t taking anymore chances).

He steps back when he sees who is behind it. Isabel. She is standing there smiling at him, and he looks over his shoulder but Lucy is no longer in the kitchen.

“Isabel.” He says and his voice doesn’t change or waver. “What are you doing here?” Isabel steps forward and pulls Tim into a hug, he freezes a little and then pushes her off.

“Tim.” She says and she doesn’t seem to realize what just happened. “I’m so glad you are okay.”

“How did you—”

“It’s all over the news. The Watch commander goes missing and it’s because of Heath Everett the billionaire criminal.” Isabel says. “And you got away all on your own.” Tim gapes at her, he didn’t really bother keeping up with the news. He didn’t need to relive their trauma over and over again.

“I wasn’t alone,” Tim says and he wonders if Isabel is leaving Lucy out on purpose. “I had some help getting out of there.”

“Right,” Isabel says stepping into the house more. “Lucy was there right?” Tim backs up even more. He opens his mouth to reply but another voice interrupts him.

“Tim who—” She stops short when she sees Isabel. “Oh Isabel hi.” She steps closer to Tim, and slips her hand into his. He gives it a squeeze and then turns back to Isabel.

“What are you doing here Isabel?” Tim asks again.

“I just wanted to check that you were alive.” Isabel says. “Maybe we could get a cup of coffee. Just the two of us.” She gives a pointed look to Lucy, who just raises her eyebrows.

“No.” Tim says simply. He has no interest in talking about Isabel, even if it was just friendly. He has no interest in anyone except for his fiancée. Lucy. “You are welcome to come in and we can talk here.”

Lucy removes her hand from his but he pulls her close and she brings her hand up to his chest. Isabel’s eyes go to her finger and the ring sparkles.

Tim knows she knows that they are engaged. He knows whoever reported the story found out they were engaged.

He knows she knows yet she doesn’t seem to care or realize that he doesn’t want anyone but Lucy.

“I would rather just talk with you Tim.” Isabel says. But Tim shakes his head presses a kiss to the side of Lucy’s head.

“It’s both of us or you leave right now.” Tim says his voice firm.

“Tim—“ Isabel protests. “You don’t—”

“I’m not interested in anyone but Lucy.” Tim says. “It’s that plain and simple. We never worked. It’s over. It has been for a long time.” Isabel frowns and turns to look at Lucy. She looks like she wants to say something but thinks better of it. She turns on her heels and walks out the door. Tim goes to shut it and then turns to look at Lucy.

“Sorry—”

“It’s not your fault Tim.” Lucy says and she steps forward to put her hand on his chest again. “She clearly thought she had a chance.”

“Well she was wrong.” Tim says and he looks at her ring. He never actually told her the story of it. He never told how it reminded him of them. “We never worked. Our relationship wasn’t—I don’t even remember how I got her ring.”

“Oh?” Lucy says and she looks curious. “And how did you pick out my ring?” Tim smiles at her and presses a kiss to her cheek.

“Actually it’s a great story.” He says. “So Aaron’s jeweler—” He tells her everything from his grandmother’s ring to trying to find the perfect ring to everyone weighing in. He tells her how when he picked up the ring, the story just resonated with him. He knew she would like it because it had a story. It had a history.

“It’s perfect,” she says. “I love it even more now.” Tim smiles and takes her hand leading her to the couch.

“Good,” Tim says. “I’m glad you like it.” Lucy nods and lays her head on his shoulder.

“How did you pick out Isabel’s ring?” She asks. “How did you know?”

“I didn’t really—she did. It was a conversation one day and then she started leaving hints around the house. I never really had a choice.” Tim says. He rubs at Lucy’s leg a little. “I didn’t know if it was the one or not.”

Lucy nods and gives him a knowing look. “I remember when she first came back. You tried so hard to get her back.”

“I didn’t know it was a losing battle until it was too late.” Tim says. “Isabel and I— we didn’t work and I did love her. I wasn’t in love with her.” Lucy studies him for a few seconds.

“So is it different with me?” She asks. Tim nods and gives her another kiss.

“Yes. In more ways than one. I am in love with you. I can see forever with you and it’s not just wanting a family. I see everything with you.”

“Oh.” Lucy says. “Wow.” Tim smiles a little and he doesn’t know why she is so shocked. He wasn’t good with words but he tried. He tries to tell her just how much he loves her.

You are the rest of my life.” He says. “You. Only you.”

“Do you think Isabel thought she had a chance?” Lucy asks.

“I think she was hopeful. She said I sent the bar high. She lives in the past and we are going to the future.” Tim says

“You always know what to say.” Lucy says. Tim takes a deep breath and nods pulling her closer.

“Because I love you,” he says. “And you make me feel something I have never felt.”

“Good or bad?” Lucy asks. Tim smiles and shakes his head like she should know the answer.

“Good.” He mutters nuzzling his nose into her neck. “It will always be you Lucy. Always.”

“It will always be you for me,” Lucy says. Tim smiles a little. “I love you. I love you so much. I can’t wait to get married.”

Tim’s heart beats a little faster. He can’t wait to marry Lucy either and start the rest of their lives together.

This was only the beginning.

“I love you too.”
