Work Text:
Tim doesn’t even know what they are doing at the bar. It’s loud, crowded and he would rather be at home.
But yet—
Angela dragged them out, told them it was a celebration of their engagement.
(But also because neither of them were answering their phones. They were preoccupied.)
He is now sitting—not sulking—in a corner after Lucy dragged him out on the dance floor. He only went back to sitting down after telling her that he was thirsty. He just never went back. She gave him a look but then Celina distracted her.
Everyone else is on the dance floor, and he really doesn’t mind. He watches Lucy, his eyes never leaving her and he is so entranced he doesn’t realize someone is trying to talk to him.
He looks up and sees the waitress at the head of the table just looking at him. She has a tray in one hand and the other hand is gripping the edge of the table.
“Can I take your empty glass sir?” She asks batting her eyelashes at him. He sighs but pushes it towards her. “Are you all alone?”
“No.” He says and he points over to where Lucy is. She’s talking to Celina but he has seen her glance his way a few times. “I’m with people.”
“Oh.” The woman puts the tray down and sits across from him. Tim straightens up. Weird. “So you are alone?”
“No,” he says. “My fi—”
“But you are alone right now?” The woman says and she slides forward a little bit. He slides back.
“Apparently not.” He grumbles. He looks again and this time Lucy is watching him. Her eyes are on him but they move towards the woman. Her eyes narrow and he wants to get up and go to her but the woman makes a noise bringing his attention back to her.
“You are all alone right now so—” she reaches for his hand but he pulls it back. He knows Lucy is still watching them closely.
“I’m not alone.” Tim says firmly.
“Then who are you with?” She asks and she doesn’t get up or move away. She doesn’t even flinch when he gives her a glare. “Why aren’t they here with you?”
“My fiancé.” Tim says pointing at Lucy who is making her way towards them. “I’m engaged.” The woman frowns a little as Lucy approaches and slips into the seat next to him. Tim relaxes a little because at least she is here and he’s really not alone anymore.
“Hi baby,” she says putting her hand on his leg. She leaves her other hand the one with her engagement ring visible for the woman to see. And then leans in and gives him a kiss on the cheek. “Do you want to go back out there with me?”
Tim nods and then stands up. He offers his hand to Lucy and she takes it without hesitation. He leads her to the dance floor and she loops her arms around his neck. He sways her back and forth it.
“Took you long enough to come and get me.” He mutters. Lucy grins at him and gives him a peck on the lips.
“You could have come over yourself.” She says. “Do I always have to rescue you?”
“I felt trapped.” Tim says. Lucy makes a pouting face and he kisses it away.
“Oh poor you.” She says. “A beautiful woman was flirting with you.”
“I already have one,” Tim says moving his lips up to her forehead. “There’s no one else.” Lucy grins at him and pulls him closer for another kiss. This one lasts a little longer but he doesn’t care, he would let it go on if they weren’t in the middle of a bar. He pulls back and lifts up her hand.
“There was a nice play showing your engagement ring.” He says. Lucy grins at him.
“She just wants what she can’t have.” She says. “And luckily she can’t have you. Your mine.”
“True.” He says and then he’s leading her back to the table. He’s ready to go home. He didn’t have a terrible time tonight but he wants to go home with Lucy and finish up the night just the two of them. “You are marrying me.”
“I am?” She asks. They are back at the table and she reaches for her purse. He throws some money onto the table and then turns back to Lucy.
“Yes.” He says. “You are.” Lucy tilts her head at him and then looks around the room. The woman is now behind the counter again and has her eyes on them.
“Good.” Lucy says and she pulls him down for another kiss. Tim feels the woman’s eyes on them and he can’t help but smile against her lips. “I love you.” Tim takes her hand and leads her out of the bar.
They get to his truck and he backs her up against. He gets her. Only for the rest of his life. He gets her love for the rest of her life. He gets to show her how much he loves her.
For the rest of his life.
“I love you too.”
