Work Text:

“Okay,” Lucy says. “We got the flowers, the food, the cake. You are going for your tux fitting tomorrow.”

“With Angela.” Tim grumbles. “Why is Angela coming to my tux fitting? Why do I even need—”

“She’s your best woman which I still think we need a better name for.” Lucy says. Tim smiles at this and leans in to kiss her.

“I’m marrying you. That’s all I care about.” Tim says. Lucy laughs and pulls him down for another kiss.

“Okay fair enough.” She says. “Anyway. I think we got everything in place.”

“Good.” Tim says. “Maybe I can relax for a little bit.”

“Until it gets crazy again.” Lucy says and she falls back onto the couch. She tosses her phone aside and turns to him.

“Can you believe we are so close? Remember when we first started dating?” Lucy asks. “We were so naive. We—”

“It seems so long ago.” Tim says. “I knew.”

“You knew what?”

“I knew that this—you—were it for me. I didn’t know exactly how it would go but—” He pauses and Lucy looks at him amazed.

“You knew.”

“Yes.” He says. “You were worth it. You are worth it.” Lucy smiles and she remembers the first part of their relationship.

It was bliss.

The honeymoon phase. He took a desk job for her. He didn’t even hesitate. He just did it because he wanted them to be together.

“I can’t believe you Tim Bradford king of patrol took a desk job for me.” She says. She says it teasingly but his face doesn’t change.

“Of course I did.” Tim says. “It’s you.”

“But you didn’t know where our relationship would go. What if it didn’t work out? What if you were stuck at that desk job forever and we broke up?”

“You mean what if you hadn’t risked your job getting me into metro?” Tim asks. Lucy shrugs and really that was a no brainer for her. She didn’t want Tim to be miserable. He was meant to be on the streets and he still deserved to be there. She was proud of him and how he made the watch commander job his own and even after everything that happened.

“Well yes—” Lucy says. “I didn’t want you to be at a job you hated.”

“But I was with you.” Tim says. “I didn’t care. It didn’t matter to me if it was a desk job or not. You were and are the only thing that matters.”

“Wow.” She says leaning in and she can’t believe how devoted he was to her even back then. “And to think we hadn’t even slept together yet.”

“That didn’t matter to me either.” Tim says. “Although I was really glad when it happened.” Lucy bites her lip.

“Me too.”

“Why did you want to wait?” Tim asks. “I was going a little crazy that night.”

“I know.” Lucy says. She remembers Tim checking her out. His eyes going up and down. “I told you I didn’t want to just jump into bed together.”

“Yet you jump my bones every night now.” Tim says a smirk on his face. Lucy rolls her eyes and leans in.

“Are you complaining?” She asks. He shakes his head, and she leans in to kiss him.

“No. Never.” He replies. “When it’s you—never. Ever.”

“I like the extra never.” She says and she climbs on to his lap. She puts his hand on his cheek and  then runs her finger across his lips. Tim captures her finger and brings it up to his mouth. He kisses her ring specifically and a small smile spreads across her face.

“Two more months.” She says. Tim laces his fingers with hers and she wonders what is going through his mind. “What’s on your mind?”

“Just how far we have come.” Tim says. “From our first date and our second first date. We had no idea what our future looked like.”

“No we didn’t.”

“I just knew I wanted you in it no matter what.” Tim says. “It’s been worth it.” Lucy nods and leans in to kiss him.

“Yeah it has been.” She says and she knows even through the ups and downs. The lowest of lows it has been worth it. And it would always be worth it. Tim was her future. He was worth it.

They were worth it and always would be. “You are worth it.” She couldn’t wait for the next chapter of their life to begin.

Because it would be her and Lucy forever.

Forever and always.
