Shane lets out a dignified snort. “Sure.”

Shane’s heart squeezes in his chest. “Yeah, okay.”
Ilya smiles, his eyes softening. “Moy lyubimiyy,” he murmurs. “I am going to celebrate you the way you deserve.”

Shane is used to being told he’s impossible to buy a birthday present for. It’s not exactly fun to be reminded of this fact about himself year after year, but he’s come to accept that it’s probably his own fault. After all, what do you give a man who has zero interests outside hockey and keeps his cards close to his chest?
Turns out, his boyfriend might have a few ideas.
