You and Luffy were dozing on the Thousand Sunny’s figurehead after eating your body weights in food. He was spooned behind you, arms wrapped around your waist and his face buried in your neck. You blinked lazily before turning to face him. His arms tightened reflexively as he yawned. Your hand slipped under his shirt to rest on back. The others had long since gotten used to the closeness between the two of you. At first, there had been some confusion, but neither you nor Luffy had noticed until one night, Nami slammed her hands down on the table and asked straight up what was going on between the two of you.
None of them could tell what your relationship was, and neither of you had explained it very well. Sometimes it seemed like the two of you were the best of friends, sometimes it seemed like the two of you were lovers. In the end though, it was neither. You were as important to him as the rest of the crew, but you were also closer.
Whenever Luffy got in trouble or in a fight, you were right there with him. The two of you had connected the moment you met. He was chaotic and powerful, with such a strong conviction. He was like the sun, and you couldn’t help but follow him across the seas.
With each new crew member, you could see how much powerful everyone was becoming. It felt like you were all untouchable at times, other times were more humbling, but at the end of the day, the crew came back together, wounded but stronger. That’s why the calm moments were so cherished. Sure, it could be boring, but it was also nice. Sanji would whip up delicious snacks and drinks (usually just for the girls), and Brook would play music, either a new song or something nostalgic.
The familiar notes of Bink’s Sake was drifting on the wind. Brook was perched on the railing outside of the kitchen, violin in hand. You could feel and hear Luffy’s stomach grumble, which made you laugh. He whined, frustrated at having to move. “Food…” His lips twitched and you moved back. “Uh-uh, you are not biting me again. I learned after last time. Go ask Sanji for food.” Luffy grumbled for s bit before carefully extricating himself, only to energetically bounce across the deck, loudly shouting Sanji’s name. You could already hear the cook’s groan as you sat up to lean against the bannister.
You were happy with your life. Maybe this wasn’t what you had seen for yourself a few years ago, but now you wouldn’t have it any other way.
It was maybe a few minutes later when Luffy came running back, a bowl stacked full of takoyaki in hand. He had a beaming smile on his face as he sat down next to you before pulling you into his lap. He chowed down on the large bowl, offering you a piece or two every once in a while. You sighed, belly full, and leaned against Luffy’s chest.
