Work Text:

Remus slowly woke up surrounded by blinding bright lights and the smell of antiseptic. Like a fucking muggle hospital.

The hospital wing at Hogwarts had always had a distinct smell of mixed potions and Madam Pomphrey's worried and motherly scent.  Something like a fresh garden and home cooked soup. Remus loved it and found it comforting, especially after particularly bad full moons when he did not wake up until he arrived in the hospital wing. It reminded him that while things are bad in the world, there is some good.

Like Effie's homemade food. Hope's knitted jumpers and blankets. And Padfoot.

His Padfoot.

Because no one else in the world could have him. Sirius was Remus's. Belonged to him. Was protected by him. Mate.

Of course, people had tried to take Padfoot away before, but Remus had put a stop to it.

Walburga and Orion when they had practically tortured Sirius to death and Effie had to nurse Padfoot back to health. Remus is happy to say they didn't survive the week.

Barty Crouch Jr. when he had flirted with Sirius one to many times, a warning had sufficed for that one.

Severus Snape trying to hand Sirius over to pureblood supremist, so they could have their way with him, Sirius had tried to handle that one on his own, let's just say Padfoot wasn't built for this kind of thing. Had Remus been mad a first, yes. But that was before he knew the circumstances. Afterward, he had called in a favor from Barty.

Then finally, possibly the worst, Dumbledore. To think the old bastard had tried to blame Sirius for something Pettigrew had attempted. As if James and Lily were stupid, as if they also didn't love Padfoot. Hell, James was the only one who knew the true extent Remus went to keep Sirius safe and happy. His Sirius. His mate.

Sirius deserved the world and Remus was going to make sure he got it. Even if he had to rip the bones out of every single person who so much as looked at Sirius the wrong way.

Sirius, his over-excitable, lovable, hyperactive boyfriend.

Simply burning the world down wouldn't be enough.

He'd start a goddamn religion. The only god he ever worshipped, would be Sirius Black.

Because Merlin was he beautiful. And smart. And kind. Kind enough for the both of them.

Remus may put up a facade, but pulling apart people, especially close to the full, was not an uncommon occurrence for Remus. Especially with how god-like Sirius looked.

After the war had ended, Sirius, Remus, James, and Lily had decided to leave the magical world. It wasn't an easy decision, or one they took lightly. But with their trusted friends killed and Pettigrew having betrayed them, they all needed an out. It was Sirius's kindness that saved them in the end anyway.

Sirius had always been wary of Peter, always felt off about him, but because he was Sirius this made him feel guilty. Sirius had wanted to like Peter, wanted it so bad, because everyone else did and if he didn't Padfoot assumed he was being a pureblooded dick, like his mother. So, Sirius had worked really hard, with Remus's and James's help, to build a relationship with Peter. It had worked for a while, Sirius had been so happy, he had climbed into Remus's bed the night Peter had told Padfoot how much he enjoyed their new friendship, had ranted to Remus for hours about how excited and happy it made him, even recited word for word the events of the evening. The smile he wore that night didn't leave Padfoots face for days.

When the war started up everyone's friendships and relationships had been pushed to the back burner. On Halloween, it had been two months since Sirius had contacted and checked in on Peter. Feeling guilty, Sirius had gathered Peter's favorite candies and chocolates, picked so muggle horror films, and headed to Peter's apartment for a surprise Halloween movie night. When he got there, he saw Peter walking into his apartment with Lucious Malfoy.

Sirius had run to the Potter's wanting to warn them only to arrive in time and face Voldemort himself. From what James had told Remus it had been pure, raw, accidental magic that did Voldemort in. Powered by Sirius's fear of losing all those he loved. It was only after the aurors tried to arrest Sirius they learned how much of an enemy Dumbledore was. To Remus, his betrayal had been the worst. Dumbledore gave him a place at Hogwarts, gave him his first real spark of hoping for better things for himself. It hit Remus hard, that Dumbledore would try to rid him of his gorgeous, brilliant, Padfoot. The only thing the aurors had been able to find of him was a finger.

Peter, the lucky basterd, ended up in Azkaban before Remus or James could get to him. Unluckily for him, so did Barty, and he still owed Remus a few favors.

The breaking point for all of them had been the Horcruxes.

After Kreacher had approached Sirius with the locket and news of Regulus's death. His Padfoot had completely broken. The sobs from that night will haunt Remus forever. Him and James vowed to never let Sirius feel that kind of pain again, as long as they could help it. After learning of Harry's status as a horcurx the four of them decided to finish this fight, their one last hurrah as Marauders, and then they would leave the world of magic behind. With James's parents and Regulus dead they officially had nothing holding them back. Plus, they had a teacher in Hope Lupin, who was willing to teach them all about muggle ways.

And that's what they did.

They were all living quite comfortably, in neighboring apartments. James and Sirius who couldn't stand to be apart for too long loved being neighbors. It gave each couple their own space but still allowed the friends to have midnight conversations.

It especially worked for Padfoot and Prongs. James, the only person Remus could trust with Sirius as much as himself.

The only person who knew just how far Remus was willing to go for Sirius.

When James had first found out, Remus thought that he was screwed. James had caught him while dealing with Avery during fourth year. The creep had palmed Sirius's ass during a party and then tried to shove his tongue down Sirius's throat. Even though Padfoot was obviously uncomfortable the whole time and actively trying to get away from him. Remus and Sirius hadn't been dating yet, but Remus had felt it was his duty to deal with some of the more problematic people Sirius couldn't seem to shake. It wasn't the first time Remus had done it, and as he learned that night, it wasn't James's either.

They quickly tag teamed any and everyone who gave Padfoot and issue. Punishment fitting the crime. Avery had to go, he had pushed Padfoot to far, even after a very deliberate no.  Barty, he got off with a warning and owing a few favors, only because he knew how to listen to a threat.

Both James and Remus loved Sirius. They had to protect him.

Remus was his mate.

James was the second half of Siri's soul.

They did what they had to and never told another person, wizard or not.

Moving into the muggle world had done wonders for all of them. Yeah, there were still problems that had to be dealt with sometimes, but everyone was happier. Even when the full moon was rough, one of his friends would bring him to a muggle hospital like this to make sure the damage wasn't too severe for them to handle and then they'd brew the rest at home. Plus, one of the nurses here went to Hogwarts with them, so they could rely on her for secrecy and advice.

"Moony!" Sirus comes running through the door to his private room carrying a box of Remus's favorite chocolate, a copy of Dorian Gray, and he was wearing one of Remus's jumpers.

Merlin Remus loved this man.

Sirius walked over to Remus's bed and set the book and chocolates down on the nightstand. He moved to sit in the chair meant for guests, but Remus was having none of it. He wrapped his arm around Sirius's waist and pulled his boyfriend, so he was lying on the bed with him.

"Rem, Shouldn't I-"

"Shhh." Remus whispered softly, stroking his fingers through Sirius's hair. He wrapped one curl over his finger before unraveling it and repeating the process with another strand. Slowly Remus used his other arm to wrap around Sirius's waist. "Lay here with me sweet boy." He whispers into Sirius's ear, sending a shiver down Padfoots spine that Remus could feel from beneath him.

"Anything you need moons," Sirius says closing his eyes and trusting Remus to watch over him. "Anything you need."
