He sat hunchbacked, staring at the dog — it wasn't his, its owner was long gone. Gone by his own doing.
“..Guess we're both alone now, huh?” His lips twitched into a smile, though there was nothing to smile about.
He ran his fingers through the dog's fur, the pet stationary, save for its breathing. “Your owner..” He trailed off, his hand coming to a pause—looking into the dog's eyes, almost seeing a ghost of his past best friend in its reflection.
“..he was right.”
