New Promises

Summary:

In which Eva tells Cassidy that she wants to cut her hair.

Notes:

Prompts Given for Day 5 (prompt/prompts used in bold):
Maybe This: Silver | Maybe That: Smoke

I was too busy trying to make my Damon Mii fall in love with my Kai Mii on my Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Island to, I guess, realize my Cassidy Mii wanted to marry Eva (even though Eva wasn't really getting along with her). This isn't a wedding one shot because I actually hate writing weddings, but I can totally write one shots that have a story where it's leading up to a wedding, so here's one to celebrate my Casseva Miis getting married.

And remember to sign the petition to blacklist Faza!

Work Text:

Does it have to be all of it?

•••

Cassidy thought Eva would never ask her that harmed her physically, mentally, and emotionally, but it turned out that one could never truly know someone, and it was always those who were the closest to you that harmed you the most.

She needed to be totally clear about what Eva was asking her before she spiralled into never-ending despair, though, so she asked carefully, "Wait, how much hair do you want to cut off again...?"

Eva showed with her hands that she wanted to have hair that went down to just her shoulders.

Cassidy burst into tears.

"Cass, come on, it can't be that serious..." Despite her words, Eva hugged her gently.

Cassidy buried her face into Eva's chest. Through her sobs, she managed to say, "But your hair, it's s-so beautiful! And you just want to throw it all away...!"

She subconsciously went to wrap a strand of Eva's hair around her finger. Her long, soft black hair that faded into grey tips and fell into those gentle curls...and she basically wanted to cut all of it off! What was she going to play with whenever she was bored or if she wanted to get Eva's attention, but also didn't want to annoy her by talking about it too loudly?

With furrowed brows, she mumbled, "Saying you wanted to be bald would be better than this."

"Oh, really?" Eva asked, slight amusement in her voice. But this wasn't a joke! This was a very serious matter!

"Yeah, 'cause being bald means I wouldn't have to see the remains of what I could've had..."

Eva kissed the top of her head. After a moment of thought, she said, "If it makes you happier, I can keep this hair until after the wedding. Then we can talk about me cutting it again."

The reminder of their wedding made Cassidy smile. She reached out for Eva's hand, intertwining their fingers. She admired the silver ring that she had spent months finding, since her future wife needed only the best of the best, and her hard work paid off when she could see how perfect it looked sitting on her fiancée's ring finger.

The words her fiancee had said finally hit Cassidy. She leaned away from her embrace. "Wait, you wanted to cut your hair for our wedding?"

She nodded. "I've been wanting to, but I thought the wedding could be a good reason to, but I can keep it, of course."

She quickly shook her head. "No, no, no, we're cutting your hair now. This is your wedding, so we need to make sure you're happy with it!"

"You were genuinely sobbing over the thought of me cutting my hair barely a minute ago—and it's our wedding, not just mine," she added.

"It's your hair, though, so you can decide what you do with it for our wedding. And I'm over you cutting your hair now." She shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant.

Eva didn't look convinced, but she nodded nonetheless. "Can I ask you for a favour, though?"

"Anything for you, my love!" Because Cassidy really would give Eva the entire world if she asked for it.

Cassidy wished Eva had actually asked for the entire world. That would be so much better than this...

Cassidy was sniffling as she ran her hands through Eva's long hair one last time. Evil, evil Eva had asked her so innocently, "Can you cut my hair?" Like that was an easy thing to do! She said something about how Cassidy cutting her hair herself would be the only way Cassidy would truly let go of her attachment to her hair, but she had to enjoy seeing her suffer like this or something, or else she wouldn't have suggested it. She was so cruel to her!

"Are you ready?" Eva asked. She was sitting on a chair, her back facing Cassidy. She had a towel wrapped around her neck.

"You hate me," she mumbled.

Without hesitation, she replied, "I do."

"We should call off our wedding."

"Maybe we should," she said nonchalantly.

Cassidy stepped back, memorizing Eva's long hair that she would never see again, before she stepped forward and cut her hair.

Watching it all fall to the ground was heartbreaking. It felt like a part of her soul was being ripped out just seeing all the hair fall to the ground. Cassidy had to furrow her brows and blink hard to focus on this task and also do her best to make sure that she didn't terribly mess up her fiancée's hair.

When she was finished, Eva's hair was cut to her shoulders. Her hair that was cut off looked longer on the ground than it did when it was connected to her head. It looked surreal to see it all scattered onto the ground.

Eva was thinking the same thing, since she said, "I guess I never realized how long my hair was..."

Cassidy looked over to agree with her, but she was caught off guard by Eva's looks. Her long hair framed her face well, but Cassidy had to admit that her attention would eventually go to how beautifully long and soft her hair was. With short hair, it brought all the attention to Eva's face, and it looked a bit sharper now. Cassidy had spent what felt like a lifetime admiring every part of Eva's beauty, but it felt like she was now seeing her more clearly for the first time.

Eva noticed her staring, so she asked, "Does it look good?"

"We should get married right now," she said, feeling a bit dazed.

"We will soon enough."

"It should be sooner."

"Help me throw out the hair that got on the ground, and maybe it will come sooner."

Cassidy listened. She couldn't help but sneak glances at Eva while doing her task. Deciding to cut her hair might actually have been Eva's best idea yet. And Cassidy got to marry her with this haircut. Life was amazing.

Notes:

I love Eva's hair and I think it's beautiful, but I also love short-haired Eva. I also love short-haired Grace, which isn't totally relevant, since Grace isn't in this fic, but it is relevant because my Casseva Miis had Grace sing at their wedding. By the way, if I had written a Casseva wedding one shot, I would've included Grace singing at their wedding, and I would've continued the Eva-is-a-LOONA-fan thing from the previous one shot in this series by having Grace sing a LOONA song (I don't know which one, but it would be whichever one sounds the gayest).

Anyway, you made it this far, so if you want, come talk to me on Bluesky, Tumblr, and/or Twitter!
