Chapter Text
Wemmbu has no idea how they ended up in this situation. One moment he and Flame were sparring– something they did often after Law, as they were the only two that could match each other’s level and improve upon– sparks flying off of their weapons, the next a strange pitch black portal opened up beneath their feet. The familiar feeling of wind rushing past their bodies overcame the wither and blaze before they crashed into a giant pool of water, a big splash following them. Wemmbu swam up until his head broke the surface of the water, taking a few gasps of air and registering that Flame was doing the same.
“What the hell was that, bro? Where are we?” Flame questioned, the water naturally getting warmer around the blaze hybrid, whilst the wither pushed the wet hair out of his face. “How am I supposed to know?” Wemmbu scowled before he followed after the netherian, who scoffed and headed to a boat. Once the two demons climbed onto the ship, Wemmbu drained the water from his long hair with a huff and was about to speak, only for Flame to put a finger to his lips with a glare– which couldn’t be seen due to the man’s blindfold but definitely felt.
Wemmbu quickly shut his mouth. As much as he hated to admit it, the blaze did have better hearing between the two of them. Constantly hearing TNT blow up caused the wither’s ears to get worse after all. Flame tilted his head in a direction before silently walking, clearly a follow-me sign, so the man-made demon followed. They peered around a corner to see two green-haired teens dressed in strange clothes: one, the male, was crouched normally, while the other, the female, sat much like a frog
Wemmbu listened to the two discuss their ‘quirks’ which really just sounded like a superpower. Weird name to choose to call it, but whatever, not his problem. “We’re surrounded,” Flame whispered, “Do they have any info?” Wemmbu backed away from the corner and shook his head no. “Nah, they were just talking about quirks, which just seem like superpowers or something.” That caused an eyebrow raise from the blaze. “Let’s get out of here; I’ll fly and carry you.” The wither finished, walking silently away before letting his wings stretch out and flap gently– checking if his elytra was stable and providing his wings the necessary support.
Just as Wemmbu was going to start to fly, the boat was suddenly cut in half by a water hand. Both of the demons’ balances were thrown off, but they thankfully caught it again quickly. The ship began to rapidly sink into the water. Wasting no more time, the wither’s wings snapped open and flew straight into the sky after grabbing a hold of Flame, who was being held by his armpits. The wither would’ve laughed or made fun of the blaze for looking like a cat being carried by its scruff if it weren’t for the fact that a huge flush of water nearly hit them.
Wemmbu managed to dodge it– he wasn’t an elytra macer for nothing– and sped up, not wishing to risk getting caught by another surprise. A multitude of screams were heard, but both fighters found it easy to tune them out, even more so as they grew more distant. “Bro, that was way too close. Learn to fly better.” Flame mocked with a grin, causing the man-made demon to smile despite himself. “Yeah, yeah. Shut it before I drop you.” He threatened, but they both knew the wither wouldn’t as they were in unfamiliar territory and were better together than separated.
“Wait, stop.” The wither suddenly heard Flame say seriously, which caused him to follow the latter’s words and merely stay hovering in the air. Before Wemmbu could even question Flame, he saw what the netherian was looking at. There was a battle below them; a person dressed in black against the rest, with a light blue-haired person that had hands covering their body and a strange creature standing to the side. While the black-dressed person was fighting well in the situation, it was clear to the two experienced fighters that the man was getting tired. “He’s not going to last much longer,” Wemmbu stated blankly.
His words were proven true when the following sequence of events happened when the black-dressed man started to lose. The two demons watched passively until the strange creature from before grabbed the man and started to break his arms, causing the man to scream in pain. Wemmbu’s breath hitched. He didn’t pay much mind to the creature before, but now he could see everything wrong with it. “That thing isn’t alive.” He muttered, causing Flame to glance up at him. “Bro, what?”
The wither scowled at the blaze’s words, the withering effect steaming out of his mouth due to anger. “It isn’t alive, Flame! It’s not even aware of its actions! It’s a mindless machine made of flesh!” He snapped, both knowing the reason as to why. After all, withers– no matter what– aren’t natural mobs; they had to be created by someone. Wemmbu took a deep breath and calmed himself; he had to stay calm, letting his severe emotions take over during battle was a death sentence.
“Then let’s put it out of its misery. Besides, I’m itching for a battle since ours got interrupted.” The blaze suggested, a malicious grin overtaking his lips. Upon hearing the blaze’s words, Wemmbu’s smirk matched Flame’s own as he questioned the latter: “Do you have pearls?” However, the wither didn’t wait for a response; he dropped the netherian and flew up higher until he was certain that a mace hit from this high would kill the creature below. He spun his body and brought out Gambit before letting his body plummet to the ground with the help of gravity. The wind rushed past him and roared in his ears as the ground got closer and closer.
Wemmbu watched as the blaze hybrid fought against the creature, leading it away from the black-dressed male, whose arm got snapped as twigs and head smashed into the ground below, which caused a small crater. “Mace attack!” The wither yelled cheerfully, a manic glint in his eyes. The heavy core of the weapon landed straight on top of the strange being, which caused the sound of bones crushing and skin ripping to echo. Blood splattered onto him, staining his royal clothing alongside Flame as the netherian was in the splash radius.
The man-made demon paid it no mind as he swung his mace to rest on his shoulder, causing some of the fresh blood to fly off, before turning to face the light blue-haired person. He clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth after he saw the man scratch at his neck aggressively and mutter things under his breath, which irritated Wemmbu since he couldn’t hear and gain potential leverage. He felt Flame stand beside him– both demons in front of the injured black-dressed male– as they waited for their opponents' next move.
A dark purple mist covered the light blue-haired man before it disappeared– leaving an empty space where the person previously was. Once the wither was certain the danger was gone, he huffed and turned around to pick up the injured man with broken bones, throwing him over his shoulder like he weighed practically nothing. To be fair, Wemmbu is a mace user who has two maces on him at all times; it’s only natural that a person would weigh nothing compared to that. “Why are you taking this random?” Flame asked with annoyance, sheathing his sword, which made the wither roll his eyes in response. “Because I can.”

Flame drummed his finger impatiently on the metal interrogation table and stared at the door behind his blindfold, which thankfully dimmed the way too bright light above them. Honestly, he has no idea how Wemmbu is just staring at it without a single blink. The steel door opened to reveal a man in a brown trench coat with a giant mouse(?) on his shoulder. He didn’t question it too much; he’s seen weirder. “Bro, finally!” He huffed, leaning back into the chair with his arms crossed. The blaze’s words caught Wemmbu’s attention, who glanced down at the two new people with his uncanny and blank stare.
It was like the wither didn’t know how to express his emotions out of battle sometimes. “Hello, I’m Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi, and this is Principal Nezu of U.A. High School.” The man introduced himself before gesturing at the giant mouse for the latter part of his sentence. “We would like you to answer some questions. First, what are your names?” Naomasa asked, taking out a notepad. They glanced at each other with bewilderment. No one did not not know him or Wemmbu; they were quite infamous after all.
“Flame.”
“Wemmbu.”
The sound of scribbling was heard in the room before the man continued. “How did you take off your quirk nullifying cuffs?” The detective questioned seriously, which made Flame roll his eyes and scoff. “I melted them off. He brute-strengthened it.” Wemmbu was the physically stronger one between them– carrying two maces would do that– but Flame was more skilled than the other, which balanced them out during battle. However, the blaze was still better. Naomasa furrowed his brows at them and wrote something down on his notepad. “Are you vigilantes?”
“No.” What a ridiculous question.
“Are you a part of the League of Villains? If so, why did you betray them?”
“Nope,” Wemmbu responded this time, clearly getting bored, seeing as he started to lean on the back legs of his chair.
“If neither, why did you help? You aren’t in the database, so we know that you aren’t civilians."
The wither rolled his eyes, but decided to continue to be civil and answer the question. “Because that thing wasn’t alive, so we wanted to put it out of its misery. Plus, we wanted to fight since our own battle got interrupted.” That caught the detective and Nezu’s attention, both perking up and leaning forward in their seats. “What do you mean by ‘not alive’? How was your battle interrupted?” Flame saw the man-made demon hold back a growl of irritation, something he thoroughly related to.
“That thing was a mindless machine made of flesh, hence why I killed it. And we got interrupted by a pitch-black portal opening up beneath our feet during our spar." Wemmbu scowled due to getting sick of the questions, his sharp teeth peaking out– a subtle warning that neither of the people in front of them could see. “Can you–” Naomasa began, but was cut off by a loud groan from the blaze hybrid, who threw his head back to emphasize his point, his dreads following the motion. “Bro, we aren’t getting anywhere with these stupid questions! Can you just get to the point?!”
“In order for us to get to the point, we need the questions we’re asking you to be answered,” Nezu explained patiently, his paws folded. Flame felt his blood boil, literally, and held back a snappy retort by clenching his jaw. He had to remember that he and Wemmbu were in a completely unfamiliar place; he couldn’t just pick a fight, no matter how much he wanted to. Seeing how the blaze settled down, Nezu turned to Naomasa and nodded, signaling him to continue.
The rest of the interrogation passed by in a blur; all the questions felt unimportant like their answers, but they were written down anyway. Thankfully, the two demons did get something out of it. For one, they found out they’re in a different world where superpowers– called quirks– existed, and how they’ve been around long enough for heroes, villains, and the like to emerge and become an everyday profession. Overall, it was clear this world’s society was extremely different from Unstable’s own.
“I have a proposition for you two! As you know, U.A. has been attacked by villains, and, naturally, as the principal, I wish to ensure my students are safe. Seeing how Class 1-A was targeted, I wish to hire you both as their personal bodyguards. You’ll be paid generously for their protection, and I’ll make it my personal mission to send you back to your home world.” Nezu declared cheerfully, causing the netherian to narrow his eyes behind his blindfold. The white rodent was basically asking them to babysit… but if it meant they would go back Unstable, he guessed it wasn’t the worst thing.
He glanced at Wemmbu, who was still bloodied from when he killed that bird-man creature, or Nomu as they’ve been told, who gave a shrug, though the wither’s smirk told him everything he needed to know. Flame turned back to face the detective and principal, then nodded in agreement and added: “Fine, we’ll play babysitters.” Nezu brightened and clasped his paws together. “Wonderful! Let’s go over the terms and expectations for each party!” Both demons deflated, not excited by the idea; they were in for the long ride.

Wemmbu glanced at the netherian beside him with a sweatdrop as they overheard the teens within the classroom yell in surprise upon seeing their teacher, who was covered head to toe in bandages. They heard a muffled “Come in” before sliding the door open and entering, stopping at the front of the class.
The wither’s royal attire was clean, like blood never got on it, with small pieces of his netherite armor in certain areas– his shoulders, torso, knees, boots– and his signature gold tierra on his head. His wings were folded comfortably behind him, while his black bone tail and horns on his head were the same as always.
Flame had his usual black hoodie with fire designs and black sweatpants, which had been cleaned as well. The blaze had netherite subtly covering his body like Wemmbu, and his boots had red trims on the right with yellow on the left, matching his bandana. And as always, a black blindfold covered the other’s eyes. Both had their netherite swords in their sheaths on the left side of their hips.
“Due to the U.S.J. incident, Principal Nezu has decided to hire two underground heroes to act as bodyguards for Class 1-A. Don’t ask me why; I don’t know his thought process. Introduce yourselves.” Aizawa finished, turning to them at the end. “I’m Wemmbu, or the Wither Hero: Orbital.” The man-made demon spoke first with a hand on his right hip, taking the lead. “Flame, also known as the Blaze Hero: Demon.” The netherian followed with crossed arms. Aizawa turned back to his colorful bunch of a class. “No questions, you can ask later in your free time since we have more important matters.”
The two demons took that as their cue to leave the front and head to the back in order not to interrupt them (or be the center of attention). Flame leaned on the wall behind him with crossed arms; whether or not keeping an eye on the class was unclear due to the cloth covering his eyes, while Wemmbu rested his hand on the handle of his sword and stood inhumanely still as he watched the classroom. Aizawa spoke to the teens about some sort of Sports Festival, but he didn’t bother paying attention to that.
Wemmbu had to admit, Nezu was quite smart. Telling them to pose as heroes, more specifically underground ones, in order to not to draw attention to how they weren’t well known, as well as giving them hero licenses– apparently they were a form of identification just for heroes to prevent posers– and putting them into the system, so other heroes wouldn’t question them either. As of right now, only a handful of people knew that the two demons weren’t from this world, which included Aizawa as they were going to work with each other for who knows how long.
However, just because the rat was helpful and smart, that didn’t not make him dangerous. After all, he told them in private that he’ll allow them to do anything as long as it protects his students, even killing, and he’ll protect them against the government if they get trialed. Quite dangerous power (and morals) there. Oh well, it wasn't the wither’s problem; he’ll just keep an eye out just in case until they get there.
His white eyes with black sclera swept across the room, seeing the relaxed teens’ bodies. Seriously? Just because they said they’re heroes, gave out names, and have a few advocates, these kids trusted them? Whatever, not his problem. The teens will just have to learn the hard way that you shouldn’t trust someone’s words so easily, no matter if they seem to have the same goals as you or seem harmless. Besides, it’ll be more entertaining seeing them get a reality check like that than telling them straight up they shouldn’t trust people around them so easily.
