Chapter 1: Chapter One - Exploring The Area

Chapter Text

Everyone was there. Everyone saw it. The pieces of BLU Medic’s body never went away, and they never saw him come back onto the battlefield. It stunk. Nothing had ever smelled like this, no matter how it died. After a while, everyone from both teams had grouped around the body, calling a ceasefire. RED’s Heavy and BLU’s sniper were positioned at the entrance of the scene, being the most peace-loving mercenary on both teams, so nobody would break into a fight or start blaming each other. RED’s Medic kneeled over the body. He took a piece into his hand and inspected it. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
“Spy, Engie, BLU team, I want you two to go into your spawn point and try to find something that could’ve caused this. Don’t killbind, we could lose you.” Medic ordered, and the two mercs nodded as they made their way to the BLU spawn point, as requested. Pyro, or the Pyros, were left out of the equation. They kept getting in the way, sniffing the parts and such, so they were sent to the cafeteria with RED’s Engineer. Scout offered to go along, but everyone knew it was to get out of the investigation.
“So we know that it was an explodebind, nobody killed him?” Spy checked with the team, and nobody admitted to having killed him. Demo, RED, checked his belt, forced sober for this investigation.
“I have all of my bombs still.” RED’s Demo confirmed, and the other nodded in agreement, as if he could’ve been the one to have killed Medic without friendly fire. Spy nodded, and Heavy, BLU, reached out to the pieces momentarily, but then decided against it, walking away from the scene.
“Heavy? Where are you going?” Medic called out, and Heavy shook his head.
“Can’t look at him like this. Makes me sick,” The RED team’s Heavy nodded in agreement. “I’ll go to the cafeteria with Engineer and the Pyros.” After a moment of consideration, everyone decided it was in his best interest to leave, and so he was allowed to be escorted by RED’s Sniper to the cafeteria.
The Soldiers, both RED and BLU, were playing Rock, Paper, Scissors, Bomb near the scene, but weren’t directly helping. They both keep playing Bomb.
Spy pointed at a shiny, tech-like item peeking out of Medic’s body.
“What’s that? Doesn’t look like bone,” He suggested. “I say take it out.” He handed Medic (RED) the piece, and the man, in response, carefully pulled the item out.
It was shiny and had wires sticking out of each corner, as well as the top. It had the word “VALVE” engraved in the very middle and had tiny, motherboard-like parts on the back.
“Sniper, RED, go switch out with Engie if he isn’t busy in the cafeteria. I need to ask him about this,” Medic commanded. “Spy, bag, please.”
Spy nodded and handed Medic a small sandwich bag, which he placed the chip in. Medic inspected the other parts for similar items and found a long wire coming from BLU Medic’s neck, hiding under parts of his leg. It’d be long enough to go through until it hits the mid-section of the torso, where they had found the chip.
“He had… Wires in him?...” Spy asked. “Do we have wires in us, or is he special?” Medic thought for a moment, then looked over at the Scouts.
“Scout. You’ve seen me use the X-ray, right?” He asked, and in response, RED’s Scout nodded. “Good, Scout, RED, I want you to put him on the machine stomach down. Check the photos for wires like this.” He held up the wire for the Scouts to see, to which the RED team’s Scout nodded again, and led his BLU team counterpart to Medic’s lab.
“Got it, doc!” RED’s Scout shouted back, while BLU’s just stayed silent.
“Demo, RED, keep an eye on them,” Medic commanded, and Demo nodded, leaving his counterpart asleep on the ground.
After some time, Medic collected all of the wires and chips into bags and tried to salvage what he could of the organs and such. Spy kept an eye out for any stray pieces they could’ve gotten outside of the area.
