Summary:

How are you supposed to say sorry, when you have five minutes left to live? How are you meant to apologize for so, so much in only five minutes?

OR

Yup you guessed it ANOTHER interpretation of the wifies death scene

Work Text:

One.

For a moment, everything is still. There’s only Parrot, Wifies, and the pressure plates, just like how they started. They started on pressure plates, and they will end on pressure plates. Then there’s the soft clink of metal as it’s dropped gently, tenderly on a wooden pressure plate. The glass lens reflects the artificial light of the froglights, winking almost blindingly. The gold glitters under the ochre lights. Parrot looks down regretfully at the precious item, then steps backwards.

Two.

He turns around, walking up the spiral staircase, gaze lingering each time he turns on Wifies. There’s complete silence in the prison - just Parrot’s footsteps on wood. He hesitates a few moments as he reaches the top. This is the last chance he gets to turn back. He can turn back, pick up the spyglass again, and live with Wifies in the dome forever. Gazing up at the chinks of sky through the obsidian, Parrot steps forwards and chooses freedom - chooses life.

Three.

It’s just Wifies and a spyglass, now. Parrot is gone for good. The leather-wrapped handle of the spyglass is worn from constant usage. The dark oak part is carefully carved with Wifies+Parrot, a symbol of their friendship. The gold gleams from countless cleanings, polished until it reflects the world. Wifies can see Parrot, stepping forwards, choosing freedom, choosing life, in the reflection. The glass lens is cracked irreparably from the drop off the obsidian tower.

Four.

Something flickers in Wifies’ eyes at seeing the broken lens - regret? Guilt? Grief? Shame? There is no one else in the dome, and only Wifies will know. He breathes in deeply, and steps forward. TNT hisses beneath him, malignant flashing red underneath his feet. His footsteps quicken of their own accord, breaking into a sprint. He needs to hold the spyglass one last time before he dies, needs to hold their friendship together in what little time he has left as the TNT explodes. He plucks it from the pressure plate desperately, the other pressure plate emitting a quiet click as it is unweighted. He gazes down at the spyglass, holding it close to his chest.

“Parrot,” he says to the spyglass, “I’m-”

Five.

The TNT underneath his feet flies into the air, explosions rocking the prison from its foundation.

Wifies was blown up by ParrotX2

Wifies left the game

The word sorry lingers in the air, unsaid, unheard. Sorry will coat the insides of this prison until all Parrot can see, can say to Wifies is sorry when really, Wifies is the one that should be apologizing. Glaring blue overtaking everything in Paragon, sorry written in the walls, sorry in the water, sorry in the carved oak walls.

Parrot, I’m sorry.

Notes:

ok so all of my oneshot fics are from a backlog that i have while i didn't have ao3. here's my comment while i was writing this:

As I’m writing this I'm insanely sleepy and I might be sick tmrw so expect terrible quality. I wanted to “break free” of my fanfic (which i still have no title for D:) but um yeah. I was also inspired by this one fanfic where Flame does suicide (i think?) in the time loop. Okay as a sleep-deprived person this came out better than I expected! Maybe one of my best to-date! The word count is 440, I still have no idea how to make stories long.

damn this is some great angst i wrote, might make it into the "making you cry in under 500 words" series

also yeyeyeyey double angst oneshots todayyy double the angst double the fun!!

i seem to be obsessed with odyssey duo in fanfics - the angst potential, probably - yet i've never made a fic about cartwings or odyssey, which are my favorite!! so odd.. almost all of my oneshots are centered around them, but none of my actual main works..
