Work Text:
Enid Sinclair was many things.
Loud
Bubbly
Colorful
What she wasn’t, was silent. It is like a waving red flag for everyone who knows her whenever she is quiet during the day.
Wednesday knew something was wrong with her girlfriend the second she stepped into the dorm. No bubbly werewolf bounding up to her like a kid on a candy rush, no K-pop playing throughout the dorm, no talking on the phone with Yoko. Nothing. Instead Wednesday saw her girlfriend there, lying in her colorful bed, silent as a corpse. Normally, Wednesday would enjoy the silence as it gives her time to think and work, but this? This she didn’t like. She knew something had upset Enid Sinclair, and she'd be damned if she didn’t find out what it was. Thing was currently on the bed beside Enid, gently patting the girl’s hand to give a bit of comfort.
“What happened?”
Not “how are you?” or “are you alright?” because Wednesday could see that Enid wasn’t, so why would she waste her time? Time can be a fickle thing when tracking someone down. Take too long and the person could get away, and Wednesday isn’t letting whoever caused this slip through her fingers. Enid sat up immediately upon hearing Wednesday, her face softening and her eyes glinting with joy, although not as much as usual. She always felt better when she saw Wednesday, especially because her goth girlfriend had a habit of just disappearing and reappearing whenever she wanted to.
“Wednesday! You’re back!”
She got up off the bed but didn’t bound over to Wednesday, only amplifying what Wednesday was thinking. The Addams stepped closer, her gaze racking over Enid to check for anything. Bruises, cuts, scrapes, red marks. Sure werewolves healed quickly but not within a day quickly. Wednesday was observant and she knew her girlfriend’s body well enough to know when things are out of place against skin. She saw nothing, tipping her off that it was a mental or emotional thing rather than physical. Not much better but at least means she doesn't have any wounds to patch up. So she merely shifted her stance and her dark eyes leveled into the taller girl’s blue ones.
“I am. What happened”
It wasn’t a question anymore, it was a demand. Wednesday wanted answers and she wanted them now. Enid gave a nervous chuckle, as if debating if it was worth risking a homicide over this, Although she also knew that Wednesday would find out one way or another, and at least this way she could vent a bit.
“So you know how I totally cut contact with my mom after I wolfed out? Well apparently one of my brothers ratted out my new number to her! Now I’ve been getting texts and calls all day from her and I don’t even know which one did it!”
Wednesday’s eyes narrowed, that oh so familiar homicidal rage filling her gaze but also keeping her face stoic, no give to it. She could tell when Enid needed to rant and this was one of those times. So she merely stayed quiet while motioning to Thing, the disembodied hand scurrying from Enid’s bed down to the floor and out the door to do a bit of snooping. Wednesday instead focused on her wolf, she can handle the rest later.
“So now I’m having to block my entire family’s numbers once again and I don’t even know if my brothers will approach me over it or not… Hey are you still listening?”
Wednesday nodded, focusing her gaze onto Enid before reassuring her, subconsciously brushing Enid’s hair out of her face. A small act she saw herself doing more often ever since the two got together.
“Of course I am. You said you don’t know which brother did it, are you sure?”
Enid sighed, her shoulders sagging as she took a few breaths to regain at least some of her peace. Sagging against Wednesday, knowing she was one of the few exceptions to Wednesday’s hatred of touch. Although instead of Wednesday’s arms wrapping around her waist like usual…the smaller girl’s head snapped back and her eyes widened. A vision taking Wednesday over as mercilessly as a stab. That cold rush curling through her with a sharp loss of real focus.
A phone was visible in the hand of Enid’s oldest brother, a number being sent to Esther. Enid’s new number.
Enid’s phone blowing up with call after call, text after text. From a mother who wants nothing but control over her youngest.
Enid curling up in bed and sobbing into her pillow at the pure frustration at the situation.
When Wednesday came out of the vision, she was laying in her bed and Enid was sitting next to her, silently watching to ensure Wednesday wouldn’t go into a seizure or ensure the black tears don’t come. Instead Wednesday just sat bolt up right and looked directly at Enid. Her monotone voice is a bit softer than usual.
“You had been crying…”
Enid seemed confused at first before quickly realizing what Wednesday was going on about and gave a small nod to confirm. Although she quickly tried to curb the attention on that detail, knowing it will only rile Wednesday up more.
“But I’m fine now really! Just a bit bummed out-”
Wednesday was already to her feet despite still feeling the effects of the sudden vision. Upsetting someone she cares for is already a grand offense but making Enid cry? There is no recovering for the person.
“Stay here”
Just like that, the Addams girl disappeared from the dorm just as quickly as she had come. She walked quickly, not running but with that deadly precision she is known for. Her parents have very much taken into the manor the second they had learned of her family situation. It seems Enid’s biological family needed a friendly reminder that Enid is protected by the Addams’. Going down the many stairs leading to the top of Ophelia Hall is easy and finding Thing was even easier. Thing ratted out everything he learned to Wednesday, the oldest brother on the top floor of Thisbie Hall, no roommate due to his passive-aggressive behavior, a late sleeper, isolated. Making him an easy target for her plans, silver has never looked so lovely to Wednesday before…
The next morning, it took teachers nearly an hour to get into the dorm, silver chains crossing over the room like an elaborate spider web. The eldest Sinclair whimpered like a lost pup on his bed…a picture of him and Esther sitting on his nightstand, the end links of a silver chain embedded into both his and Esther’s chest, directly through their hearts.
He knew who did this but he wouldn’t dare tell the teachers..not after a warning this obvious. This was Wednesday Addams being nice.
