Five shots. She heard them before she understood what they were — the crack of gunfire in an enclosed space, the way it blanked the ears and replaced everything with a single ringing note. She'd turned before the sound finished, and what she saw was ⏹⏹⏹⏹⏹⏹⏹ on the floor with his arm outstretched and his face the colour of old wax and his eyes fixed on the far wall.
