CHARACTERS:
HATSUNE MIKU: 16 year old digital singer created by CRYPTON FUTURE MEDIA, and the protagonist of the play. Being a digital voice synthesizer, alongside the other characters that’ll appear later on, they have no official personality or age, and can be interpreted in any way by the fans.
In this script, she is an energetic, extroverted, and kind girl, who’s always eager to make new friends. Despite her cutesy appearance, she has a rather chaotic side to her, one who’s very loud, rebellious, and very mischievous. She sometimes speaks before thinking, which sometimes gets her into trouble. But overall, she’s friendly and means well.
HATSUNE MIKUO: 18 years old, and the older brother of Hatsune Miku. He is the calmer sibling of the two, being more collected and level headed. He's always the main voice of reason, which comes in handy when he has to explain Miku's actions or apologize on her behalf for her semi-blunt remarks. Even if Miku gets on his nerves sometimes, he still deeply cares about her.
KAGAMINE RIN: 14 years old, and the female twin of Kagamine Len. She’s more playful and childish than her brother, proudly displaying her girly and nerdy interests to anyone and doesn’t care if they don’t like it. She’s very high-spirited and always in a good mood. She spends her time trying to convince her brother to stop acting older than he is, and spend their teen years just having fun. Spoiler Alert: It always works out.
KAGAMINE LEN: 14 years old, and the male twin of Kagamine Rin. He likes to act older than he is, trying very hard to be seen as “cool.” He says he is “grown up” now, and needs to act more “mature.” But deep inside, he’s still a spontaneous, wild-child who OBSESSED with music and any sort of fictional media, alongside his sister. Even if they do sometimes argue over the smallest of things, he looks after Rin, willing to help her just like she would with him.
MEGURINE LUKA: 21 years old. She’s extremely laid-back and relaxed, generally going with the flow and easily adapts to change. She has a pet named Tako Luka, one she cherishes with her life and basically spoils her. She frequently hangs out with the other VOCALOIDS, especially with Miku, Rin, and Len. She does everything she can to be a “cool older sister” friend to the younger singers, and so far, she’s been very successful.
KAITO: 23 years old, and a complete doofus. He's an extremely air-headed guy, who lives a simple, carefree life, despite being a popular singer with millions of fans across the globe AND the first male Japanese VOCALOID. Even if he is, at times, a complete idiot, he is a very loveable man and overall a great guy, who cares a lot about his friends. Oh, and he really LOVES ice cream. Truly, the textbook definition of a himbo.
MEIKO: 25 years old, and is the first Japanese (female) VOCALOID, releasing 2 years before KAITO. She has that “cool aunt” vibe, being a parental figure towards the younger singers. She has the most in-depth knowledge of wine and alcohol, and will always have a fun fact on the ready.
KASANE TETO: 31 years old, and the oldest out of everyone in the cast. Despite this, people constantly mistake her for a teen due to her appearance; probably has to do with the fact she’s half-chimera… She also has a liking for baguettes, and can be spotted eating them on her lunch break or when hanging out with her friends. Personality wise, she’s cheerful, a bit shy, but also mischievous once you get to know her.
YOWANE HAKU: 27 years old. An introverted young woman who’s not really great with socializing, especially with strangers. Long ago, Haku was deeply insecure about her singing skills and almost quit the music industry, until she met Meiko and Teto, who endlessly supported and helped her gain confidence. Now, the trio are the greatest of friends and are inseparable. What hasn’t changed, though, is her taste in alcohol, particularly sake. Oh, and being extremely emotional.
HAGANE MIKU: 19 years old, and is described as the “Heavy Metal" version of Hatsune Miku. She has a very powerful singing voice, one that comes in handy when performing more extreme songs from artists such as Utsu-P, who creates more J-Rock and Heavy Metal VOCALOID songs. Even if she looks intimidating and cold, not to mention her ability to do screaming vocals, she’s fairly normal, personality wise, being more passive and calm compared to Miku, but friendly nonetheless.
ZATSUNE MIKU: 16 years old, and the evil counterpart of Hatsune Miku. She is the exact opposite of Miku’s friendly and kind personality, being more antisocial and incredibly mean. She constantly causes trouble for everyone, thriving off on the drama, which is what caused others to label her as a “chaos junkie.” She also proclaims herself to be “Miku's biggest rival.”
ACT ONE:
(The stage set at the beginning of the play is MIKU's room. The room is sort of clean, save for several empty water bottles on her desk, where her computer set also sits, with a lone figure of herself right next to it, a pile of clothes and music sheets on the bed, and a knocked over (albeit empty) small black trash can. On the wall near her bed, are several sticky notes hastily slapped on a kitten-calendar, each varying in color and importance. From “MAY 19TH, LAST SHOW OF MIKU EXPO 2026!!” to “Water Tako Luka?? (Just don't question it)” Clearly, it’s been a couple of hours since someone has been in this room.)
(Lights on)
(We hear the sound of footsteps, coming from STAGE LEFT, someone enters from said stage direction, but due to the lighting not focusing on them, we are unsure who this individual is. It is soon followed by the figure fumbling through their keys while humming “Melt” by ryo, and the door knob turning. Finally, the door opens, revealing MIKU, looking rather exhausted, but still in a good mood.)
(MIKU walks inside the room, closing the door behind her. She stretches for a bit before taking a long, breathy sigh.)
MIKU: Ah, finally… free at last! (Throws a massive duffle bag onto the bed) Man, what a tour, probably even better than the last one! We did a super amazing job!
MIKU: Welp, now that the show’s over, I can finally just sit and relax! The plane back to Sapporo is only like 3 days away, so… we can just do whatever we want!
MIKU: (Pacing around her room, somehow completely oblivious to the pile of junk that’s everywhere) What to do, What to do… Hm, maybe we could go to that ice cream shop KAITO recommended… Oh, or maybe finish watching Transformers with Rin and Len… Yeah, that sounds good!
(MIKU looks around her room, realizing the mess she's left.)
MIKU: …And I forgot to clean my room…again. *sighs* Oh well, better get to it.
(MIKU begins cleaning her room… Well, “cleaning” might not be the most accurate word to describe it. All she does is shove her bag and clothes into the closet and pick up the trash can. Afterwards, she jumps straight onto the bed.)
MIKU: (Tossing and Turning) Ah, how nice…
MIKU: (Silent for a few seconds) Maybe I’ll just.. *yawns* take a quick nap. Honestly… I earned it…
MIKU: (Pauses for a minute) Oh wait, can’t forget about..!
(MIKU digs through under her bed, grabbing her iconic green leek, one of her most prized possessions. She hugs it like you would with a stuffed animal.)
MIKU: (Smiling and giggling sleepily) Heh… so cozy… a neat, cozy… *yawns* quick nap….
MIKU: (Slowly acts more drowsy and sluggish) Yeah, just…a quick… small… (Immediately falls asleep and starts snoring LOUDLY)
(After some time passes, the lights go off. As this happens, a figure that looks suspiciously similar to MIKU, large pigtails and all, emerges from STAGE LEFT, in a stealthy manner. She slowly makes her way towards MIKU. In one hand, she’s holding a large green pool noodle. MIKU remains blissfully unaware about what’s currently happening…)
(Slowly but surely, the figure sneakily switches out MIKU’s leek for the pool noodle, silently snickering to herself. She tightly holds on to the leek, practically frolicking her way out of MIKU’s room.)
(She takes one last look to see if MIKU’s woken up – she hasn’t. She giggles to herself once more, before closing the door, exiting to STAGE LEFT.)
(Time passes, and it’s now the next morning.)
(MIKU's phone starts blaring loudly, the sound of her alarm echoing across the room. She begrudgingly wakes up and turns off her alarm. The pool noodle falls to the ground.)
MIKU: *Slowly gets up, though not really happy about doing so* Okay, I’m up… jeez… *Rubs one of her eyes sleepily*
(MIKU looks at her hands and then around her bed, noticing her leek isn't in her grasp. She sighs, thinking it probably fell on the ground again. She's still half asleep during all this.)
MIKU: Every single time man… Alright, where'd you go now…? (Lazily feels the ground below her, before feeling a cylindrical-like shape) Ah-ha, there you are!
(MIKU picks up the green pool noodle, staring at it for a few seconds. It takes time for her to register that, no, that is NOT in fact her cherished leek.)
MIKU: …
MIKU: (Blinks Rapidily) ….wait a minute…. T-This isn't-!
MIKU: (Hops off the bed, fully wide awake, and is frantically looking around her room) Oh nonononono… no, please don't tell me-!
MIKU: …My leek, w-where is it!? No, please…! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!!
(MIKU continues to chaotically search through her room, checking her drawers, rummaging through clothes, looking in the closet, and under the bed once more – Still, no sign of her leek.)
MIKU: Nononono… NO!! Shoot, what do I do now!? I am NOT leaving this country without it, I love that leek with my WHOLE life… It’s been there with me since DAY ONE-!!
(MIKU grabs her phone, and quickly begins to dial a number.)
MIKU: Hello!? …Oh thank god!! Please, you have to come… QUICKLY! IT'S AN EMERGENCY, I MIGHT NOT MAKE IT!! IT'S OVER FOR ME!!! HELP MEEEEEE!!!!
(MIKU hangs up immediately, dropping her phone onto the ground)
MIKU: (Spiraling out of control) Don’t freak out that much…. It’s gonna be fine, just fine….. Think of your happy thoughts….. Your nice… happy… thoughts filled with so many colors… (About to burst into tears) …so colorful… (Curls up into the fetal position on the ground) …colorful…. Like your precious l-leek….. (Silently weeps)
(Blackout)
(Timeskip - a few minutes later)
(Light on)
(MIKU is still in the fetal position, rocking back and forth and mumbling an incoherent jumble of words)
(HATSUNE MIKUO, her older brother, enters from STAGE LEFT, running in a panicked manner. He knocks on the door of his little sister’s room. No answer – He immediately opens the door wide open.)
MIKUO: (Scanning the room, somehow not noticing MIKU laying on the floor) MIKU! (Panicking) What’s the matter!? Did something happen? Are you okay!? Are you hurt!? Where are you-!?
(Finally, he looks down, spotting MIKU.)
MIKUO: (Crouches down next to her) Miku..? MIKU! (Starts shaking her) It’s me, Mikuo, your brother! What happened here, you have to tell me! If anyone did anything to you I swear I’ll-!
(MIKU suddenly bolts up from her panic-stricken state. MIKUO flinches and yelps in surprise.)
MIKUO: …Miku? Hey, look at me. (Concerned) What happened..?
(MIKU looks at her older brother, with an unreadable expression. Suddenly, she bursts into tears and hugs him, squeezing him tightly.)
MIKU: (Wailing) M-My LEEK! My precious, beautiful green leek is GONE… someone stole it from me and I don't know what to do! I… I can’t go back to Sapporo without it!
(MIKUO sits there dumbfounded, processing his sister’s words, before responding.)
MIKUO: Wait…is this SERIOUSLY what you called me for!? The call you made THIS early in the morning, where you said, and I quote, “I might not make it! It’s over for me!” It… it was just about some stolen leek-?
MIKU: (Cuts him off) It’s not JUST some stolen leek! That leek has been with me since my early idol days… I’m talking way, WAY back! It’s my character item, it’s what the fans associated me with! And you know how much it means to me-!
MIKUO: Okay, okay, I get it..! (Remorseful) Shoot, sorry about that sis… I.. I didn't know how much it meant to you…
MIKU: (Guilty) I’m sorry too… I didn’t mean to freak out like that…
MIKUO: No, you don’t gotta apologize… It was understandable why you acted like that…
MIKU: … (Hangs head down sadly)
MIKUO: (Takes notice of MIKU’s gloomy behavior) Tell you what… I’ll help you find your leek.
MIKU: …W-What..? (Looks up to meet MIKUO’s eyes) You’ll do that… for me?
MIKUO: Yeah, that's what siblings are for! I got your back, and you got mine!
MIKU: (Smiles) Wow… I, um… Thank you, I-I appreciate it….
MIKUO: Anytime. (Gets up and holds out hand)
(MIKU wipes her tears away, before looking at MIKUO's extended hand. She reaches out for it and gets up.)
MIKUO: So, where are you gonna search first?
MIKU: Well, probably not my room anymore; I already looked around, and… nothing.
MIKUO: Hm… (Lightbulb) Oh, how about you ask your friends if they've seen it?
MIKU: Hmm… Good idea! Maybe they've seen the person who took it walking around here!
MIKUO: Yeah! (Pauses) Wait, are they even awake at this hour? I mean, it's 7am, for crying out loud…
MIKU: Knowing them, they probably are! I mean, we've got a TON of stuff planned today-
(Before MIKU can finish her sentence, we hear the sound of muffled yelling, coming from above the ceiling.)
MIKU: Oh, and speaking of which, that must be coming from Rin and Len’s room! Knowing them, all that yelling probably has something to do with Transformers.
MIKUO: Dang… Is Transformers really THAT serious?
MIKU: (Laughs) Oh trust me, it is!
(The two of them laugh; the mood around the room has noticeably lightened up.)
MIKU: Alright, enough goofing around… let's get to investigating~!
MIKUO: You said it, captain!
(MIKU AND MIKUO run off and exit the room, with MIKUO closing the door behind them. They leave towards STAGE LEFT.)
