Grieving For A Player That Was Never Dead

Summary:

Avery doesn't believe Derek is dead — he just can't. So he sends and email to all of his professors letting them know that he won't be coming to lectures for a bit and starts thinking (something he admittedly doesn't do much.) Avery has a theory that he clings to, mainly because it involve Derek being alive. Everything is a bit sketchy but Avery sets out on his journey to find someone who he hopes didn't die.

Notes:

Hello! This is my first ever ff (pray for me) and I just recently watched dawtde. It actually cut so deep and I've been obsessed with it. This idea came to me super late at night and I love happy endings. I hope you love them too.

(Please let me know if I misspell anything. English is my first language I'm just bad at it.)

Extra Warnings:
Slight hopelessness

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

You died.

The screen mocks Avery. It disgusts him. He disgusts himself. He fell for a stupid trick and now the only thing he's cared for for the past month is dying.

He clicks respawn anyway.

TheMostMayo> DEREK??
TheMostMayo> HELLO?

"God..." He grumbles in real life.
The fireworks outside feel like shots to his head. He hears kids laughing, and tears begin to form in his eyes.

Avery looks around his starter house a quick moment. He built this when he thought it was just a starter world. Avery shoves open the door and runs to the mine. He knows his efforts are in vain, he just does. But he can't help it.

Typing himself into creative, Avery flies through the caves and enters the door that tortured d3rlord3. Just as it did last time, the game forces him into mortality the moment he steps back out. There he was again, rows of doors. It had already been five minutes.

Avery pushes away the thought. I mean, he already knew exactly how to get through to the last room. So he did. Nothing seemed to follow him this time. He was never chased. Avery felt truly and utterly alone.

He finally steps into the last door. Another ten minutes have passed.

TheMostMayo> d3rlord3??

There he is. Standing. Looking out onto the abyss. But any movement from his skin are ceased. A deep hopelessness sets deep into his bones.

TheMostMayo> Derek?

The scene in front of him was all too still. Avery was too late.

In a whim, he rips his headphones off an slams them down. Avery shoots up from his seat and looks away from the screen.

Is Derek really dead?
