Work Text:
Her whole day had been spent trying to fix a problem at work. Some idiot had messed up saving a file and all the information had been lost, so she had tried the rest of the day trying to regain at least some of it and redoing all the other stuff. Her shoulders were aching from all the tension and her back was stiff as a board.
Right now though she needed to focus on caring for her family. Her little kid Finn and beautiful wife Catra deserved the best and she needed to make sure they got it.
Finn was currently sitting on the living room couch, wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket as they watched their favorite show. It felt like it was only yesterday that she was holding them in her arms at the hospital, both her and Catra having the proudest smiles on their faces. But that had been 6 years ago already.
Sometimes she forgot how fast time could pass, especially when she didn't look too closely at herself in the mirror. She had started to spot gray hairs every so often, luckily not that noticeable between the blonde. Catra loved them though, always saying that they just showed what they had gone through and survived. Other times, however, she'd blame the stress Adora was under.
Even after all these years Catra still found ways to make her special, and she counted herself lucky for having found such an amazing partner. Finn and Catra were her entire world, the sun she orbited around, the center of her own small little universe.
As she reached for a wooden spoon to stir the soup she was cooking up, a small shock of pain shot through her shoulder, making her wince ever so slightly. "You alright there, 'dor?" Catra asked as she peeked around the corner, a gentle smile gracing her lips as if she already knew the answer to that.
"Just fine, shoulder aches a little from sitting behind the computer all day. You know how that injury sometimes just pops up." She smiled back at her wife, before continuing the task of stirring the soup with her other arm.
Her eyes were focused on the soup when suddenly two arms snaked around either side of her waist. "Hmm, and how could I help?" Catra's head settled on her shoulder as she hugged Adora from behind.
"Some kisses might help." A smirk played on her lips as she said that, not that Catra could see it but she was sure her wife could hear it from the tone of her voice.
Gentle kisses were being placed along her neck and jaw as she stirred the soup, making her hum in delight every so often.
"How much longer until dinner is ready?" She asked before planting another small kiss in the crook of her neck.
She put the spoon down and put a lid on top of the soup. "Just a few more minutes. It just needs to simmer for a few more minutes and then it'll be done."
The arms around her waist slowly loosened before retreating entirely. She looked at her wife questioningly before turning around and leaning back against the kitchen counter. "How was work today?" Catra asked as she grabbed a few plates from the kitchen cabinet.
"You know, the usual." She said with a shrug, only to be met with an unimpressed glare from her wife. "There was a small mess that I needed to take care of. No big deal."
"Right, no big deal. Is that why you look so tense and tired?" She put the plates down on the counter and crossed her arms over her chest as she took in Adora. "You promised you'd be honest about these kinds of things. I don't want you to overwork yourself again."
"It's nothing I can't handle Cat. I'm being honest, I promise." She took a step closer to her after pushing herself off the counter. "Just an idiot at work screwing up and me fixing it. I'm just a little tired and tense, but that is nothing a good night of sleep can't fix." The doubt was still very present in her wife's eyes, so she took her hands in her own as she looked into those beautiful bi-colored eyes. "I promise."
"Okay, if you say so." Her tense smile slowly eased into a teasing one as she let go of Adora's hands. "Guess we'll have to find a cure for that as well."
Catra's hips swayed from side to side as she walked over to Adora's phone and typed something into it. With her hips still swaying and a smirk on her face she walked back over to Adora. God, did she want to kiss that smirk off her lips.
She pressed a button on Adora's phone and put it down on the counter, as 'until I found you' started playing. "May I have this dance?" Her hand was extended for Adora to accept, a soft smile apparent beneath that smirk.
Without a moment's hesitation she took her hand, pulling her in and pressing a hand on Catra's hip. "Kind of an unoriginal song choice don't you think." She whispered, trying to sound as sultry as she possibly could.
Catra had always been better at that though. "It's a classic for a reason." She whispered against Adora's lips as she put her hands around her neck, planting a sweet kiss onto her mouth as she did.
"I guess you're right…"
For a moment the universe was just two of them. They're hands on each other's bodies, the way they're breaths met in the middle, their heartbeats loud between the two of them. They were together not just because of words that were spoken, but also because of gestures that were made and moments that they shared.
And for a moment, as she stared into her lover's entrancing eyes, everything slowed down. She could breathe, relax, and have this moment with the one she loved most.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" She asked after another slow kiss.
That beautiful smirk was playing on Catra's lips again. "I think you've said our love could save the universe on more than one occasion."
It made her chuckle, because it was true. She had said that, and their love could definitely save the universe. "I love you so much Catra D'riluth, more than I will ever be able to convey in words."
For a moment her wife was speechless, but eventually she leaned her forehead against Adora's, closing her eyes. "I love you too dummy, very much."
Adora closed her eyes as well, swaying to the rhythm of the music as her entire world became Catra. She could stay in tat kitchen forever. Holding Catra. Touching Catra. Loving Catra. But Catra wasn't the only one who Adora loved.
A small blonde head poked around the corner. "What are you doing?" They asked as they took a few careful steps closer to them.
"Dancing." Adora said to their kid as she held out one arm to them. "Want to join in, bud?"
Finn nodded eagerly, a proud smile on their face as they took one hand of both their moms. Slowly the three of them fell back into rhythm, before another song started playing that had a little more energy to it. Making them all jump around and laugh as they did.
Chuckles and footfalls filled their kitchen as they all moved around one another. The soup was left forgotten on the stove for now as Adora's pain and tension slid off of her. This was their world. And they wouldn't have it any other way.
