Barbie as The Regent of the Rainbow

Summary:

In the sunlit kingdom of Oriana, Princess Bianca takes pride in doing everything herself. She doesn’t ask for help— not from her father, and not even from Cael, her loyal best friend who always shows up when she won’t let anyone else.
But when a charming stranger arrives with a smile too golden and a marriage proposal the King can't refuse, Bianca’s confidence begins to waver. For the first time, she may be facing a danger she can’t out‑stubborn.
In a world where courage and friendship are challenged by both good and evil, Bianca must discover that even the most independent princess sometimes needs a helping hand.

This is an ongoing passion project to write my own "2000's Barbie film" inspired screenplay, which I started back in October 2024. The story it's taking from is "Cannetella," about a princess who refuses to marry, makes an impossible ask of her father, and needs to be saved from the sorcerer who exploited that opportunity. It's a darker story, so I'd recommend it for older audiences. I challenged myself to write a version that was more available to modern audiences and adapting it into a Barbie story just sounded "correct."

Notes:

Please note I couldn't place original queues or notes to share the story's tone or stage directions more directly on AO3. However, Wattpad (same username) has everything I originally intended! Have fun filming this in your mind's eye!

Chapter 1: BEFORE THE SHOW: Ideal Cast For the Story

Summary:

Hello! While I was building the story and the characters more concretely, many a voice came to mind. This is my personal cast list for the characters in this script, but I welcome your headcanons also!

Chapter Text

My Voice Cast Ideas:

Barbie/Bianca: Kelly Sharidan. What's a classic Barbie story without THE classic Barbie voice?
Ken/Cael: Ryan Gosling. Imagine his Ken role with more sincerity and a brighter tone.
King Elio: Damian Haas. Honestly, I considered him for several roles, but I find his softer tones more welcoming.
Scorivante: Liam O’Brien. He knows how to make ferocity LIVED IN. Gaara, Infinite, World of Warcraft, he's got it in spades.
Verrill: Lizzie Freeman. I appreciate that she makes nervousness and trust sound natural.
Horse 1: Brian Donovan. I just imagine Rock Lee's voice with a more fluent exuberance. Dubbing from anime can make vocal deliveries a bit awkward.
Horse 2: J.B. Tadena. We can all agree MIXTAPE is not a good game, but this man plays a GREAT officer. He's rational and stern to help ground his youthful counterpart.
Skipper: Erica Lindbeck. She sounds like a responsible young lady should.
Stacy: America Young. I love her current Barbie voice. How can it be made just a touch younger?
Kelly/Chelsea: Britt McKillip. I love her role as Hannah Marie in the Scary Godmother films. Keep this 100%.
