He's walking home from the grocery store in busy Montreal. It's probably not the smartest to be walking in plain daylight considering he's not supposed to be in Montreal for a game. The bags in his hand blow around violently as the autumn air ruffle his hair.
Something catches his eye though. A billboard is plastered with an ad that Shane had done a week around. The same ad that Ilya had helped Shane get ready for. The one that Shane came home from overstimulated and was on the brink of a meltdown.
It was the little things in Ilya's life that mad him want to stay.
A loud snap brought his attention back and as he looked down he saw that the bags had broken. All of Shane's ingredients littered the floor.
"Fuck" he cursed under his breath.
He heard footsteps in the distance and turned around to see a little girl. She was no taller than 4 feet and had the energy of someone who drank 3 red bulls. Her feet raced towards him and stopped in a quick halt. She tied her arms around him in a lock. Since when were kids so strong?
Ilya looked around clueless. He had weird fan interactions time to time. But never a kid. Normally it was those weird old men who were so insistent on selling his autograph on some random site.
"Amelià revenir!" A woman in her 30's called after her.
"Oh là très désolé monsieur-" she scanned him up and down, seeing he clearly wasn't from here.
"Uhhh tu peut parler français? Ou tu parle anglais?" She asked.
"Je parle anglais et russe" Ilya said in the worst french accent ever. This woman must not know or keep up with hockey. Which is odd because he child had an reaction to him that only meant someone in their family watched it.
"Ahh. You know where is cafe?" She said. Offering her phone for directions
Her phone was in English and it seemed like she didn't know how much of it worked. While putting in directions he toggled on French.
"Merci!" She said walking away.

It was a big night in the sports world. Many different teams were lines up at a gala to attend awards.
Ilay was in some awkward suit that didn't fit quite right. His eyes gazed over the room. In all honesty, a few years ago, before he matured, he would've gotten any female reporters number in this room. But now, he was exhausted from the season. He wanted to go home with Shane. Even though Shane was only 10 feet from him, it feels like years away.
Ilya felt a woman lean up against his shoulder and swing her arm around his neck.
"Would you like to grab a drink?" She asked.
Ilya slowly peeled her off his body and walked away. He didn't want the media to get any ideas. Interacting with her would've only escalated the situation.
Ilya wasn't necessarily walking towards anyone, or anything. But he knew he'd find someone he knew eventually. He passed all the crowds of big hot shots. Kimi Antonelli, Sidney Crosby, Aerin Frankel, William Contreras. All these amazingly talented people, yet Ilya only searched for one.
With drinks at the bar brought drunk Ilya. With drunk Ilya brought secrets. Secrets that would need to be held down deep inside the pit of his stomach.
Inside this twisted knot of unknowing feelings he kept the same feelings for Shane that he did for his mother.
